if anet listens to forum community. The thing is that all competent players are actually in game and enjoying it, but only bad players come to forums and whine instead of learning to play.
Anet gotta be politcorrect so they cant say this, but i can: “If something seems totally OP to you then your bad, and you should feel bad”
Im pvping for years and i play with mentality that everything is my fault. Dont blame classes, dont blame mechanics, blame yourself and improve instead of sitting on your phat * and trying to find excuse why you lost.
And btw even tho anet says that they read all your opinions etc. etc. actually they dont because if they would listen to players who have no idea what their doing then this game would get more unbalanced and result in even more whining.

Well some things are so obvious that even devs cant keep silent.

iirc, Anet is saying that they aren’t going to outright listen to everything on the forum and make decisions based on it. They have the data, metrics, etc, so they can tell what’s really going on if there is an uproar.

The other thing noted is that a meta hasn’t been formed, so now you have the “it’s suitable to play in this manner, but we’ll try to make other things work as well” mentality for their balancing overall.

And I agree with Lemonseed. A lot of people are either bad or not used to PvPing in this game yet, to put it in a nicer way.

The only thing I want to know is why sPvP is 8v8 when the game, classes and maps are balanced for 5v5 (tPvP).

Until that is answered, and the class bugs are sorted out, I don’t want ANet to make any balancing changes.

It’s pretty obvious, isn’t it? It dillutes the effect of one or two really skilled players, and dillutes the effect of a few really bad players so people can blend into the zerg and feel like they are contributing to the battle (Example: Rifle warriors hanging on ledges sniping on people and refusing to drop down to knockback/rez when needed and so on).

The larger the battle, the less important individual skill is to the overall victory. That’s probably best for hot join PVP. Unfortunately it has the side effect of giving people who play hot join more than tPVP a completely different experience of balance, which is what’s creating a bit of a disconnect between the competent players and the less skilled players. I’ll say straight up I haven’t done a lot of tPVP yet but I can tell that is the source of a lot of the difference in opinion about what is OP and what is not.

It baffles me how anyone can speak of SKILL, when current PvP depends on the time of day you play it and the current population of WvWvW maps. Also, you SPAM stuff in HUGE crowds, so the combat is really completely random most of the time.

Just an example, as a Ranger you can control only ONE pet ability (F2), and everything else is up to the pet – again random use of skills. As a Necromancer, you can’t even control your pets.

In WoW you could control every single aspect of your play. Small scale battles (2v2, 3v3) are actually much more responsive, they depend on YOUR decisions (not on decisions on 300 people) and actually reflect skill. It’s a mode of play where the responsibility is up to YOU.

Skill?

WvWvW is softcore PVP, it’s not supposed to be a giant showcase of skill. That’s pretty much the entire point of it, to allow people a place to PVP and have a larger scale of PVP where numbers and positioning of forces matters more than personal skill. Ie, crowd management and leadership is a much bigger factor in who wins.

This is what every “no, the PvP is fine, you’re just bad” player said in TOR, and yet when all of these “bad” players were not listened to, the PvP in that game slowly but surely started to die.

… and here’s the thing: I was one of the people telling them this stuff. I thought the PvP was good, and that they just had no idea what they were talking about half the time. In the end, whether I was right or wrong, the PvP in that game took a serious hit.

The fact of the matter is that from the example of that game and countless, countless others, we know what it’s just not true that “most people are playing the game having fun and only some come to the forums to complain.” Rather, the forums show a reasonably good sample of the overall community, and if that reasonably good sample says they’re not enjoying something, then we see people in the greater community bit by bit move on to other things.

I think the PvP in this game has great potential but needs to be fixed here and there. You might think its fine. In the end, it doesn’t really matter what we think. What matters is that there are a lot of people not having fun with it, and in the end that will kill the game’s PvP if those people are just ignored – even if they are wrong.

The PVP won’t survive if they only listen to the top 0.05% that have completely mastered avery aspect of PVP either. You have to strike a good balance so that inexperienced/unskilled players can enjoy pvp and stand some small chance as well as the e-sport champions.

You need to keep those “bad” players interested and wanting to continue playing so that they enjoy the PVP enough to want to get better, improve and maybe one day join those 0.05% of players to master the game.
