I will say that it’s bright points, S5 is the best yet with the fairest matchmaking.

Sadly, population in low. This is largely because it’s self defeating to play more than the minimum of matches. The leader board considers only win ratio. The most effective strategy is to play a minimum of matches to minimize risk.

Low population means decreasing match quality After 4 straight dh stacked matches with heavy losses, I’ve decided not to risk my silver status and stay out of ranked as much as possible until the season ends.

several things would improve s6. I recognize that some of this will not happen.

  • Leader board needs to consider games played AND win ratio. This will improve match quality by encouraging people to play the whole season and keeping population high.
  • Pure solo queue. Duo queue is the new exploit with “organized” teams out of ranked. An additional all-team queue is worth considering.
  • Remove class stacking. This speaks for itself.
  • DH needs a good hard look.

Please stop spreading misinformation. Understand things before you made dumb posts.

Win ratio is not the metric used to track rating changes. Who you defeat or lose to is what matters.

You continue to earn rewards once you’re at your proper rating (you win about half your games), so there’s no disincentive to continue playing, as you claim. You can also learn to play better and move up. A visible way to track skill evolution is huge.

Your only valid point is the last one. DH has too low of a skill floor, so at lower skill levels, players do disproportionately well.

She has a point that you are not incentivized to play more matches. Someone can go 12-0 playing after midnight pacific time and be at the top of the leaderboards, vs someone that has played 60 plus matches against better competition. It is too easy to queue dodge and get a good rating. If you carefully pick when you play your matches you are likely to be a division higher than someone that just logs in and plays a bunch of matches every day.

Her point pertained to middle of the pack, not the very top. Decay should combat the 10-0 people and force them to play more games (decay system could be better). My concern is someone doing that at the very end of the season.

Sadly, population in low.

And you know this how? And no, queue times aren’t an accurate indicator.

The leader board considers only win ratio.

This is blatantly false, and I’ve said as much in two separate threads already. Funny how you manage to ignore it completely every time.

  • Leader board needs to consider games played AND win ratio. This will improve match quality by encouraging people to play the whole season and keeping population high.

The leaderboard itself doesn’t need to change one bit; simply add a # of games played requirement to show up on it, make the decay more aggressive and incentivize further play after you’ve finished the Byzantium chest with additional league tickets and ascended shards.

I’ve already stated in another thread why your proposed “solution” is a bad one, but you didn’t bother to respond to it so I shall not waste my time by typing it all out again.

Class stacking wouldn’t be an issue if it wasn’t for the attrocious excuse for balance. This “we want to create distinct meta’s” experiment has gone on long enough. Please do a massive nerf to all elite specs so they’re not the defacto choice to play and balance the game so we don’t have these faceroll builds that require disproportionate amount of skill to counter.

It still would be. Some classes just don’t stack well and other do it too well. Nerfing it would only slightly reduce the chance of it occurring.

What’s the point in maintaining a status if you’re going to opt out of playing the game?

If you obtain something (silver status) but can’t genuinely maintain it, doesn’t that undermine the worth you place in it?

Is it therefor purely about aesthetics? In which case why are you so wrapped up about the importance of leader boards and solo’q’s?

About DH’s. I get nervous whenever I have a stack of DH’s on my team. DH can perform, but since it’s the class so many plebs are drawn to, I don’t know that I can rely on them to do it.

How’s this for a balanced matchup. 2x war, 2x nec, 1x DH on each team. Only my team won 500 – 300. Stacking of some classes can make a huge difference (two good eles) but the “stacking” of good players is far more important.

@Ross Biddle

I want to keep silver status so that I’m not swept into the maelstrom of bronze next season.

As to being able to “genuinely” maintain it. By avoiding risk I’m doing what many at the top of the leader board are doing. It is said; “what’s good for the gander is good for the goose.”

That’s really kind of a point I’m making. The current situation doesn’t encourage maintaining one’s rank. Rather it encourages avoiding games once rank is obtained.

I hear you bringing up another negative aspect of class stacking.

Leaderboard needs to consider top stats whereby losing a game yet earning all the top stats would atleast lessen the amount of mmr loss.

And people keep posting this “IT’S ABOUT WHO YOU BEAT” meme, while failing to even consider administering a bit of rational conjecture prior to emitting such nonsense.

1) You play with people in your MMR threshold. Outside of literally the first 5 minutes of this season, the meme has no validity lmao. There are no win streaks. Just a slow gain of mmr, increasing both ends of your mmr threshold by about 10 or so points.

2) Stop claiming you should be able to carry out of bronze until you’ve done it 3 times. Please just stop. 90% of you posting that meme can’t do it and are afraid to even test out having to carry 4 npcs. Players like me and Helseth are obviously capable of it. As far as carrying goes, it’s very doable to carry games of bronze and even silver. Though when you get people that at least have a brain and a basic understanding of rotation and what not to hop into and commit to, that’s where you can’t carry games all by yourself, you can’t carry games single handedly if your opponents have a clue how to play and fight and you happen to get some lucky fellow who scored a rating ticket on your team, you need semi decent players at the least to carry. 2cent

To answer the OP:
– Considering games played is an good idea as long as it does not go too far. Like, you must have played 100 games to be eligible for rewards would be great to keep people playing all season, but if this goes too far it would make season 5 a grind which is a bad idea.

- Having pure solo queue would be a really bad idea. I like playing with my friends in ranked and taking that opportunity to play in a duo away would make me enjoy pvp much less.

- The is absolutely nothing wrong with class stacking. People need to accept that 3 DH is a terrible comp and if you lose it it you played not well enough. Class stacking gives no advantage over an actual good comp using 5 different classes.

- DH is fine and needs no nerfs at all. If you can’t play against it then you need to learn how. DH is not OP in the slightest and I really think people need to understand this so they can learn to play against them.

that is true for higher divicions, for bronce – i gain/lose around 10 points, that feels like nothing. Soon after the first placement matches i gained/lost 20-30 points a match.

I rather lose/win more points, because it feels like i could move (i’d still need a 60% win ratio for real movement, but if it feels like movement, i play more)

Right now i play just for the gear (now on the computer of a friend with his PvE char) because everything else doesn’t feel like it would matter at all. Specially when i calculate how much wins i would need for real movement (~10-15 per win, even with a straight winstreak, i would need way to nuch matches for movement)

Simple math my lad: constantly taunting my enemies into 1v2 and 1v3 combat leaves my team the advantage. If you were on my team and lost, it’s simply because you can’t win your 1v1’s lmao. But sure, not winning 1v1’s is a pretty good tactic I guess, I’ll work on that one for you.

However, I can’t really assign much significance to your opinion. Last night I 1v2 dueled a world champion and had that same world champion hiding behind a pillar at less than 25% hp. I 1v2’d this world champion WHILE emoting and speaking, per my usual play style. So before offering me your opinion, do tell me how many world champions have you sent hiding in a 1v2?

I agree that this is the best season to date. It certainly has its flaws, but it’s an improvement over the last several.

I have a lot of people on my friends list and they are of varying skills. Not surprisingly, they seem to distribute according to their skill level. The best players I know are at the top and the worst are at the bottom.

Honestly, the biggest problem is the type of game. It’s a team based game but the current design focuses on pugs. If you’ve ever played a fps online, you can carry your team in that. Despite being on a team, a lone wolf can be quite effective. MMO pvp is not designed like that. Coordinated teams will do better than good individual players. It just is what it is. The only way to eliminate that problem is to have organized teams in leagues. Maybe a separate queue/tourney for pugs and teams. Guild wars one had solo and team queues. This used to, but it was never developed well.

Well, I agree that the more matches people play, the better idea you have of their skill and true rank. But that’s true of anything, increase the sample size and you get a better prediction. So yes, I think having some minimum number of matches would be a good thing.

A combination of two things:
1) Your rating is highly volatile during placement matches
2) If you did your placement matches early, the threshold for entry is significantly lower than later in the season

How do other’s remain at or near the top with very few matches.

It’s possible because the rating decay is too lenient.

It’s almost like a Dev stated that there was huge deviation tied to the soft reset, and that overtime it would correct itself… it seems to be doing that the more matches played to dial in the deviation and accurately place people the more they play.

On some days I literally win 80%+ of the matches and on next day I loose 80%+ of the matches (only counting days were I played a significant amount of matches).
I do not think my personal skill can change by such a large margin every day, so I can only attribute it to atrocious match making.

Overall I’d say the system does a decent job of placing you where you need to be rating-wise as long as you play enought matches. I hover constantly between silver 3 and gold 1, and for the most part when there are enough players I have pretty good matches. I do still get crazy matches, but I feel like that is more contributed to how the mm system sets up matches in combination with the available players in the queue. So long as there are enough players, the problems with the mm system are hardly noticeable and can be overcome, but when there are fewer players, the issues with mm create horribly unbalanced matches. This is an issue I’m still trying to investigate and understand.

The only time I see blowouts are during off peak hours and when my team has Afkers/intentional Dc’ers. I believe that when players get reported for Intentionally Dc’ing and AfK they should get a manual mmr Penalty so they will move to the bottom faster if they won’t ban them.

Like if 2min after multiple report the player can’t make a single unit of damage to an enemy his rating start to decrease at -1mmr/5sec (for afk only)

But then again we are the top skilled players in our respective regions.

I ask, how does one be rewarded for being a better player when the stats are extremely wonky to begin with?

Example would be the damage one: Player A dishes out most damage because he keeps having 4 minute fights on enemy node against 1 player, but player B has the lowest amount of damage because he got on point and killed the same person in 3 seconds, Player A is rewarded for being the better player even though Player B was more effective.

How would you reward the better player? Otherwise I think it’s a great idea.

I mostly play for the new Free-For-All arena in PvP lobby.
