Number one: you can create characters almost instantly for PVP and there’s no need to do PVE to grind up armor and weapons.

Number two: there is no advantage to using bots in PVP because there is no grinding in PVP except for rank, but it does not increase your stats. Look at World of Warcraft battlegrounds where it is filled with many bots or farming honor in order to gain the best seasons gear.

All gear is equalized in PVP and everyone has equal access to them. You dont have to spend gold to the petty things like reset your talents like in World of Warcraft.

When this game first launched these reasons were enough for me to buy the game right away because I never saw an MMO with this type of support for PVP. I don’t know maybe I got greedy afterwords and demanded too much from the development cycle complaining that it was too slow, but initially I remember the excitement I had when I saw those w.simple things being featured in the game.

But then again the lack of a gear grind and stats separation in PVP in this game made it an exception only within the MMO genre, since every other PVP game would have those features to be expected. I kind of wish that the PVP in this game could be severed completely from the PVE so that we can get development solely devoted to the PVP without being hindered by all the red tape in the Corporation being focused so much on PVE.

Ya those were all there in guildwars 1, so we sort of took them for granted.

Like matchmaking, or spectating… sort of basic infastructure type stuff.

The problem is that they didnt deliver on all of the basics, and the gameplay isnt even all that fun. Plus, even if it were decent, they changed genres and didnt announce it. Gw2 will never be a deck builders strategy / team coordination game.

So basically anets lead developers are skritt kissers. (Good job to the environmental people though, the game is pretty… and the lore is interesting. Your gameplay is just uninteresting and your pvp is the worst of this.)

Actually I find the gameplay really fun, I also appreciate the amount of customization they have placed into the characters without making it like GW1 which I found uninteresting to play and spectate. Currently I wouldnt call GW2 a coordination game because burst is too high across the board, there are some small things for “team” but not to where it should be. The features will be there eventually and that is completely fine by me, nothing is released as a final product for MMO’s so why do we constantly expect it?

I could accept it if the game primarily needed balancing tweeks.

What I can’t accept is that it took so long just to be able to que for casual play with a friend.

Or have a spectator mode.

They launched a beta PvP game and then took about 4 months to address some of the basic infastructure needs. They haven’t even touched on the balance yet, which has a long ways to come.

Additionally, I (and a lot of others who have spoken up) think they have unfun gameplay, even if it was balanced better.

The volume of things to be fixed and the rate at which we see progress clearly shows that this game won’t have quality PvP until well over a year after it’s launch. That’s just plain false advertisement. Whoever made the decisions about how to allocate resources should really be deeply ashamed, and there’s probably some egg on the face of the lead PvP developers too — they’ve done a great job of listening to the community and tweeking small things, but when that same community told them about deeper issues they plugged their ears.

This was a bigger dissapointment to me than Diablo 3. I have gone from being a real fan of arenanet since before GW1 beta to thinking it was all just blind luck. Every expansion erroded the quality of the game and now this…

All GW2 had was a good leveling experience and fantastic and origional art and background lore. Even the dialogue and story line were poor, again, despite thorough feedback. PvP is the biggest dissapointment in all of it.

the conquest mode: this is good when you can’t be bothered playing the other modes.
the conquest mode: this mode is a point holding one, different to the others!
the conquest mode: come play!
Temple of the Silent Storm: a brand new experience! conquest mode!
Brand: an upcoming map that will rock your world with the incredible conquest mode!

kidding aside the combat is fun, but we need more darn modes! random arenas, gvg, HoH, Codex, Spectator, Ctf, matchmaking.
after 6 months we need more given to us than another conquest mode map.

Definitely the biggest fail in this game was to make something called conquest around 3 kitten circles….

ANET WE NEED HEROES ASCENT, RANDOM ARENAS, GVG, CTF, ETC…!!!!!!!

The OP is right, no gear grind and total freedom to build a pvp character is all brilliant stuff. A lot of people thought Anet had all of this figured out over the 7+ years of GW1 which invented the concept.

Other interesting things in pvp are the non-trinity class design, dodging, no auto-follow tab 1-2-3 attacking.

The only actual combat mechanic I don’t like is the lack of a resource system like energy (GW1) or mana which means combat is largely about spamming every cooldown as fast as possible — hence the out of control burst specs.

1. No gear.
2. Dodging.
