The illusion of syncing
Yes, that’s almost certainly what’s happening.
Many complaining of “queue syncing” don’t understand statistics. The only thing their anecdotes and screenshots are proof of is selection bias and insignificant sample sizes.
It should be no Match Making and completely Random. Coz Illusion of Syncing or Grouping up people with Same Rank also means ILLUSION OF PREMADE.
There is no matchmaking, it is random. Random people with rating of 1-200 will play with each other 1st 5 people to que on a team 2nd 5 people to que on another team.
I haven’t seen anyone syncing yet though I been on same team as people 3-4 times in a row, really frustrating especially when you lose and know they bad.
Where’s your evidence to support that? Your stating that as a fact when the developers explicitly said they would not reveal the grouping method.
I played against a guildmate after that match I played with him.

Not saying it doesn’t or won’t happen because I am sure there’s a algorithm that forms the teams and to identify every variable would be difficult without a dev flat out telling us.
That being said, what do you mean? What’s your point?
Sync or not, easy to tell, all you need to do is right click on names on the opposing team or on your team. Whoever does not has option to “Invite to party”, that proves he and others are synced, under one condition that you are in party.

Well said Lux, thank you!

You are wrong here. Their anecdotes and screenshots are proof of a poor playing experience. Most have experienced seeing the same “teams” play each other multiple times in a row, often with similar results (lopsided loses). Any way you slice it I think this can be called a design flaw if you have parity in mind. If the player base needs to push through this “growing pain” period in order to have reliable rating bases then let us know that up front.

Recipe for unfun games, right here.
I’ve had teams where I look around and it’s like everyone on my side is in the top 200 for both solo and team leaderboards and can be found in Vods of tournaments. Some really stacked teams.
Then everyone screams at us for syncing but I don’t even know/talk to half these people. Just because a few great players get paired doesn’t mean there is some grand conspiracy.
The real issue isn’t syncing but spiritwatch being in the rotation and having people not getting IP banned from GW for going afk/quitting every single match.
As a high-rated player, I think sync queueing is completely overblown.
Whether people try to sync on purpose or not, the fact that it does not seem to ‘randomize’ team composition means by design whatever method anet are using to put people in teams is FLAWED.
You could get people who are trying to sync with others, you could get people who queue straight away after every game only to end up back in the same team vs the same opponents game after game – it does not really matter because the end result will more or less look the same (i.e people syncing and people accused of syncing when innocent).
The blame is entirely on anet really for having such a flawed grouping system that seems to be so easily exploited, whether intentional or not. Fix it up, make it completely randomised and then this issue will go away.

I definitely agree that regardless of whether or not it’s syncing or match-making it is flawed and should be fixed ASAP. Identifying the problem is one step towards the solution though.
Some people are synching the winning percentages some people have are way out of line for a true solo queue. It doesn’t have to be a lot of people for it to be a problem its making the leaderboard invalid.

See above post. Doesn’t matter if only 50 people are doing it ruins the leaderboard.
Yeah…I don’t find going up against rank 40-50s 5 times in a row, fair at all
I doubt it’s an illusion. Finished a game where, at the end, someone (who shall remain nameless) on my team typed “?party done queue up in 15s”.
Obviously the ? was supposed to be a /

yep thats right. but its smells wired to see the first 50 places so many guys with exact the same amount of games and win/loose ratio and the same server… smells wired. very wired!
i have tried syncing, it doesnt work. thats all.
whatever it is, it feels off. It’s putting people on the same team game after game after game (sometimes the WHOLE team). I just can’t make any sense of it.
But now they’re hating cause a brotha finally got some buzz

What’s most upsetting about the syncing issue is that high level players are preying on low levels or “easy” teams, just to get on the LB and some wins. I mean, if you have a team, go play the team version. That’s the honorable thing to do.
This idea about syncing is still random. You can try to get into the same match as a friend but you’ve only got a 50/50 chance to be put on the same team. The whole thing for the most part is definitely an illusion, but if there are only 20 people queuing up every time, you’re bound to be put with similar people over and over again.
The last match I played with complete random’s the other team accused us of being “teamspeakers”. It was just unfathomable to them that they could lose so badly so they assume it’s due to ‘syncing’ and not because they just got destroyed.
We don’t know how the grouping is organized, hence it is all speculations.
As for the evidence, it tends to be anecdotal, until we have a sufficiently large number with a clear tendency.
What makes me raise an eyebrow or two is when it happens that 5 people are grouped together 4-5 times in a row … the chances for that are simply too low to be a coincident.
This whole syncing may be incidental but the results are the same – too often people are being put on the same teams game after game. People are not just making this syncQ stuff up – its a serious problem that needs to be addressed.
So unless anet does something about it for as long as SoloQ exists we will see daily/weekly threads about syncing. This is going to be the new ‘premade vs pug’ issue that plagued tpvp previously. At the moment whatever method anet uses to assign teams is a bit too predictable and can be exploited – intentionally or not.
Lets get real as well – if the odds are good that you can sync with your friend to increase your odds of winning – the majority of players will do it – even if not regularly at some point. Noone forces you to be honest on the internet, and in a pvp game egos reign supreme so why not try and gain that extra advantage when syncing is not really cheating technically – its just kind of morally wrong.
Time for anet to fix this mess, use whatever algorithm they use to create random teams caused by chance. When you can kind of guess who is going to be on your team before the game even starts then something maybe wrong.

Those people you played against do sync. Just like Mila and many others do, it’s a fact. Syncing is too easy because of the flawed system and Anet should definitely fix this issue and then reset the leaderboard.

the way anet fixes things , its probably gone take a month or 2-3 to get the syncing in order. and another 2 months of complaining to get them to reset the leaderboard.
so i guess still no real Solo Que for another 4 months.
solo que #1 admitted to sync – that much for the “illusion”:

Dude you shouldn’t even link that to him/her. Let them think we are completely idiots and we live in this fantasy world. Let them insult our intelligence more by making big name threads about something which is crystal clear just by observing.
