When I introduce friends to this game, I have to tell them all the same thing:
“The PvE in this game is really good, probably better than any other MMO, but PvP is where it’s at…you just have to get to level 22 via PvE first.”

I know that throwing someone right into GW2 PvP can be overwhelming, but in my opinion, it’s better than doing hearts and events with them for twenty levels promising that the best part of the game is just over this hill.

At launch, it was possible to dive right into PvP at level 1 (or maybe 2). When the leveling rework came out, the requirement was moved up to level 22. Even if you think you’re smart and you just go to heart of the mists through the portal in LA, you don’t have everything unlocked like you should until your 1st character is level 22.

I don’t understand this very arbitrary level requirement that requires a new player’s first experiences to be in what is arguably the most boring of the three game modes.

TL;DR: The level 22 requirement for new players to have access to PvP was ill-conceived. The requirement for accessing PvP should be reverted to what it was originally, simply having a character.

Not here to debate whether the level requirement is a good idea or not. If you do not want to wait until you are level 22 (which is only once per account), just go to lion’s arch and walk to the heart of the mists asura gate.

The lv22 thing only applies to the UI. There’s nothing stopping anyone from entering the mists at level 2.

If I remember correctly, they changed it to level 3. Can’t check it right now but it’s as simple to level up a character to level 3 and see the level up rewards.

I’m not sure right now, but as far as I know you can enter the mists with a new account from level 3

you can go in pvp with lv 1 actually.. from completely fresh account even.. you just need someone on your party to be in HJ match

It is level 3 now. Definitely think it needs to change to 2, but leveling up once or going to your home city and taking the portal to LA isn’t a big deal. Once you step into WvW or HotM, those tabs are unlocked on your account even if you haven’t reached the level for them yet.

You can in fact enter the mists at level 1 without taking one step inside the tutorial zone.

Don’t you just need to make a keybind?
