The problem with the MMR formula
Team q and solo q do NOT have the population to sustain any form of matchmaking. Doesn’t matter what type it is, only having 9 (haha get it?) people playing at once will always be a fail.
That being said solo q since the last matchmaking change has always been 1 good player per team matched with 4 randoms. Its a competition for who can carry harder. You nailed it lol.

I’m pretty sure it doesn’t work that way and matches the top players with the top players and low players with the low players. There just aren’t enough people playing and some new players haven’t quite adjusted their MMR to where there supposed to be yet so are higher than they should be.
Using the Gliko Formula to estimate the MMR of a single player in a team-based game is absolutly a joke.
Elo and Gliko system are formulas created to estimate the real value of a player in a single-player game like chess.
Let me explain better: I’m a really good chess player, I won, the Gligko system can estimate my real value based on WHO I defeat. But for real, this is my story, this is my personal single-player team, so every choise is made by my brain.
Now think about a team-based game like basketball and a ladderboard based on single player (ladderboard is based on MMR so your MMR is higher at higher ladderboard position) that determinate your team friends. Think about a very good talented player like Allen Iverson: He played in a not very amazing team, so he never won the NBA Cup or what…anyway he is considered one of the gratest player of all time with a lot of MVP Trophy.
Using Glicko system to estimate him value, Allen Iverson will be a very low rank and non-skilled player, because his team were not very good(not for him fault).
To closing: single laddreboard/MMR value are an amazing joke. Ladderboard must be team based and not player based. This is easy for teamQ, impossibile for soloQ. SoloQ don’t need a ladder…It’s just a random arena.
Sorry for my bad english!
I actually like to have a soloq.
One of the biggest issues with my old pvp MMO wow, was the lack of semi competetive soloplay. The live of a pvper in that game was about waiting for teammates to logg on. Which often meant once a week instead of whenever i felt like it.

Easy for TeamQ? Not at all when you play only with 1 or 2 friends and then get matched up with randoms that don’t know squat, don’t talk, and ofc get facerolled by premades. This because only way to play with my friends and don’t get moved other teams side, is joining TA.
I’m sick and tired of this all, sick and tired. This game needs new modalities, a total rework of leaderbords and huge nerf/balance of cheesy spechs (e.g. Warrior first of all, Necro straight after, Thief on podium too).
Atm it’s all about procs, ladders are a joke. Every evening we get pised off and most of our friends left already. This because nobody cares, nor even cared.
And rather to solve the real problems, we get new power creep monsters (all ready to see the new Ele soon?) as Fotm, then a nerf to the ground and again, back on top horrible OP as never been afterwards. All this back and forth.
This appear to be theyr idea of balance. I swear in 10y of Mmos I’ve never seen a similar abomination ever.
Yeah a rant, this ain’t remotely funny, never been.
On a side note: I dont really agree on ladders based over Teams only. They should be based on personal efforts during matchups, not about how many you win or loose for the above reason ( e.g. Allen Iverson).

Of course you are right! I explained bad the teamQ side of the problem.
IMHO teamQ ladderrboard must be made by team: somenthing like the GW1 system in GvG (minimum 4/8 of the team must be a member).
Last, but important to: create a system with ladder for effort during match is not easy because, how can you really value the effort of a single player? The score at the end of a match in my opinion is useless because a lot of class do few point but do a very important job. Would be great if this could be possibile, but estimate the effort of a player in a match is not very simple.

yeah, population is more an issue than the mmr formula. that and new players starting with too high an mmr.
Leaderboards must first reflect experience. You can’t have players on 1st page with less than 50 games played. Secondly, you can’t have players with stats such as 8/8 placed #5.
Otherwise, you can basically be matched with people from any rank…

Unless its a smurf account it shouldnt be possible.
Like stated in other threads; i would like to see GW2 follow a similar route on this one as for example Smite. Create a beginner league that functions as stepping stone to rated games. So you need at least 100ish wins before you can enter ladder games.
