The red/blue thing
Don’t get me wrong I love SPvP/TPvP but maybe we can have it to where we are not colored? I mean we do have red over our names.. Maybe that is enough? I kinda like seeing different color schemes people have. If not cool if you did this awesome. I am happy either way. Just some armors look amazing when they have the right dyes on them and then bla when they are all blue/red. Just food for thought.
Still amazing I love the gameplay.
I agree with this. If I see a red name, I immediately know whose the enemy. I dont need colored outfits to tell me who to kill. Lol
I agree. Allowing people to keep their dye scheme in PvP would be nice.
Agreed 100%. The coloring is dumb.
It’s not when you look in the future and there is a spectator mode the coloring will help the spectators to see what’s going on…
Then let spectators see blue and red.
Hmm.
This might be an issue with cross servers. Remember that people in WvW on other servers tend to default to a specific color as well? This may save on memory usage to have a set default color skin across it all and might not be possible to see everyone elses colors they way they programmed it.
Now, that said, I see no reason why I cannot see my own chosen colors for my character and simply be the default red/blue/green to other people.
Yes, we’re already thinking ahead to esport commentating. It’s much easier for new players to see the blue/red teams.
Think about any sport you’ve ever watched. Imagine that each player could wear whatever they wanted to look bad kitten It’d be much harder to tell who’s on which team.
So for us, the blue/red essentially equates to team jerseys.
Etc.

Might be kind of cool to allow people to select their own “jerseys”? Home and away with two different color palettes (light and dark) to avoid teams with the same colors.

If you are watching Esport material I’m sure you can distinguish teams from name colour and the roster listing before the game starts.
Two things I’ve noticed, Jon.
First off, members in party that join do not get the typical red/blue colors unless on an opposing team. Don’t know if you’ve fixed that in a recen’t patch or not, but this reveals that the coloring is either a graphic mask, or the memory for player’s armor color gets stored client side.
That’s more than enough grounds to create an Option for players to turn off ally ‘jersey’ colors for the match, or at the very least, our own. It is kind of a downer that someone who’s taken the time to chose colors for their own outfits to not be able to see them in match.
It’s only important that the colors of other players are uniform, and advanced players can already determine friend or foe without the visiual assistance on the armor. (Again, for most of us who play Moba, a Red Name is all we need.)
There are a lot of comprehensive additions to your sPvP lobby, UI, and queuing system that would help raise it’s status from an eSports ‘hopeful’ to an actual entity in eSports, creating more user options for visuals are some of the easier steps to take.
What was wrong with the GW1 system where you wore whatever you wanted and had a custom cape to show which team you were on?
It seems kind of silly for the only rewards in pvp to be aesthetic, and yet take away any customization by restricting them to only red and blue. Am I missing something?

Not to take a page out of WoW’s book but.. Why not an indicator with a color, while the gear remains the same. Such as a circle under the player denoting the team they are on?

Would be nice if there were a personal option to turn it off. TBH because I play with the same people all the time I really don’t need the red vs blue thing. I just want to be able to admire my kitten kitten kitten color scheme while I’m kitten at a kitten kitten point on my kitten bunker.
We’ve actually talked about making some changes to how this works, but it’s stuff I can’t talk about yet.
I don’t wanna be a tease, but I CAN say that a lot of the things you guys are asking about are things we’ve talked about in meetings.
Justttttttttttt can’t say too much yet.

Thanks fine, I appreciate the transparency.
I think of it as a sport. You need team colors, and it makes it easier to differentiate people.
If GW wants to make it into the e-SPORTS scene, they’ll have to make changes and additions to the SPvP system, but the base system itself is fine as it is imo.

I understand you’re not able to talk about it, but I still want to throw this out: let the team choose their Jersey? Doesn’t even have to be a full scale dye system. Just have ’em pick one or two colors and use that as the team template.
The custom teamcolor pattern which nldixon already mentioned sound pretty neat. That way you could notice specific tournament-teams according to the colorscheme they have.
Maybe unique tournament colors which you can unlock for your team could be added then aswell

Oh snap. I completely missed his post. My bad.

I agree with this, i dont see the point in getting all that nice gear and getting it the color you like and everything only to have it all colored one color, i dont see many other games that follow this – take wow a HUGE success and doesnt require everyone to be the same color in PvP and they have some quite big maps (AV is like 40 vs 40) and yet no one complains about not being able to tell friend from foe
Plenty of non-armor identifiers already exist: Nameplates, for the standard “red is dead”. Hovering your cursor over a player will outline them with a thin red or green glow, depending on opponent or ally. Selecting a player will place a ring underneath their character model, again either red or green.
Problem is, spectators don’t have cursors. And they might not get nameplates either (yet to be seen). So most of those methods are bunk. They’d work fine when you’re playing in hot-join games, but they won’t work for an audience at a tourney. Thus, team colors.
LoL Spectator mode is divided between blue and purple.. it’s not that hard to do the same for spectator mode in GW2

Did not think of this. Good point. However, team color palettes for tPvP… now that sounds pretty awesome. o.o
