The return of Raid on the Capricorn
~Desolation~
Ready for it to come back? Hell I was never ready for it to leave. Don’t see why they couldn’t have kept this map as srictly hotjoin. Not like we don’t have other maps such as Skyhammer, the Courtyard, and Spirit Watch.
Their reasons for removing it were incredibly stupid. They could have just dried out the water area and edited the map a bit. What should have happened is skyhammers removal along with adding this back in game. I mean now that we can vote on the map we want, its pretty clear to anyone that consistently queues that skyhammer is the most hated.
I had the same idea as SkylightMoon. If they want to keep underwater combat out of PvP, they could drain the water out.
I wonder how much use the cannons would get…
I agree completely. I miss raid on the Capricorn I don’t see why they had to completely remove it honestly. Just like skylight moon said they could take out the water. This map had one of the best sceneric views in PVP
Please bring it back, we need more maps anyway
It was still better than Skyhammer, for crying out loud.
I would love to see this map returned, even if it’s for practice only.

That was a cool map. Nice theme, best amount of LoS.
And duels on the ship. What’s better than duelling on the ship?

I remember playing this map as a nub spirit guardian!
You know.. back when spirit weapons couldn’t die and were viable in zergs…
Rank: Top 250 since Season 2
#5 best gerdien in wurld
I miss the map. I never found Underwater combat in Guild Wars 2 to be broken anyways, and I’ve played every profession under water just fine. It was perhaps misunderstood, poorly looked into by the majority of the player base. And a large majority had experience with it from PvE having used terrible weapons and Sigils. Underwater combat was kinda like most players going into a wild panic when they got hit by Moa from a Mesmer in the early days, and how most players know what to do with it now.
What was broken, is how the Downed State works under water, that’s pretty much the only thing that needed fixing. Make it so that there are ways to “stomp” a player under water, and it’s actually fairly alright.
I do think it should be in Practice at the very least, if not Unranked as well. I also think Courtyard should be taken out of Unranked. For that matter, they should add a couple more Team Death Match maps, make a separate queue for those. If I want to play TDM, I’d like to queue for TDM. If I want to play Conquest, I want to queue for Conquest. If I want to play Stronghold, I want to queue for Stronghold. If I want to queue for Capture the Flag.. oh, right
Seafarer’s Rest
I never expect this map to be removed in the first place.
There’s absolutely 0 warning lol.
While we all want Skyhammer to be gone forever, Anet chose to remove this map, which no-one ever asked for.
Typical Anet.
I liked Raid on the Capricorn. It would be nice to see it back.
Of course, I like Skyhammer also. shrug I’d like to see Courtyard go bye bye.
I like fun maps with quirks to them, but the only problem I have with skyhammer is the…skyhammer. I like the disappearing plates, it changes the gameplay up.
The cannons and such on Raid on the Capricorn were never much of a problem for me at least.

They should add the map at least for custom arena and hotjoins.
+1 much simpler than making a whole new map and it’s sure to be liked! (Without water that is)
^ Usually only characer that i play on
It was the most zergy map ever, even more zergy than foefire.
Maybe if the would rework the secondary mechanic and remove all the water…
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
In my opinion, the water has to stay for this map.
If anything, remove the hostile sharks or make them ambient creatures.

I actually knew what my underwater skills did back then xD
If they move the underwater point on the boat or island I’d like the map more than Skyhammer and Courtyard.
If they keep it as is it could still be fun in hotjoin.
There’s no reason they couldn’t have kept it as a hotjoin map
It was a nice and fun map, too bad it was removed.
Someone pull an anet dev to one side at rezzed and slip em a little money to make this happen.

Reintroduce Capricorn with or without water; then get rid off Skyhammer, wtf likes that anyway except for bloody rank farmers. ..

I like Skyhammer from time to time. Not too frequently, though. I also know there’s people who really love the map.
I dunno how you would farm ranks, though. Even less do I know how you would be able to do that better on Skyhammer than on any other map. After all, you get the most rank-points from winning a match… and you can’t know if you will win or not until you actually play. Sometimes you don’t even know it until the match is over.
If I want to queue for Capture the Flag.. oh, right
Spirit Watch..
(I have to know! In WvW, do Legendary NPCs drop Legendary loot?)
+1. Would like to see this map returned, was just talking about this in guild this week and number of people liked this map.
De Mortuis Nil Nisi Bonum.
that map sucked, imaging fighting 5 rangers on that map? lol

well considering they ACTUALLY fixed the underwater rezz bug a couple of patches later, then no, no problem anymore.
Ranger pet is not going to invulnrez the ranger anymore, and it can be CCd.
Just because a ranger would beat your warrior, ele, necromancer or thief underwater does not mean it is broken. It means the other classes needs a buff. Or you can roll a engi, guardian, mesmer or, ranger yourself.
Currently @ some T1 server in EU
I never saw anything too imbalanced that small patching wouldn’t have fixed for underwater combat.
From what I remember, here were the problems:
- ~ Rangers & Engineers were extremely dominant underwater to the point that there was no reason to ever approach a Ranger or Engineer in the water, unless you were a Ranger or Engineer
- ~ Some skills that were deactivated in the water did not make sense and then some skills that were allowed to still be used underwater, also did not make sense. The idea of deactiving certain skills underwater was a way to kill someone’s build structure in a hurry. If they were going to deactivate given skills, those skills should have been replaced with underwater versions of those skills rather than being deactivated.
I actually like underwater combat in GW2
It’s too bad Raid was removed
It seems to me Capricorn was removed because anet decided it was too much to balance. Am I wrong? Did people hate this map on a massive scale? I didnt. Sure some classes were broken, like thief with perma evades with high melee damage. It was still fun and different. I wouldnt feel bad about this map if there were others to take its place.
If it was removed from all game modes because of lack of balance might as well remove spirit watch and skyhammer.
How to make this map fun in 5 steps.
- Step 1) totally disable wep skills while under water.
- Step 2) move mid point to the top of boat and make random chunks of the side railings on the deck of the boat destructible environment (split the railing into like 10 variables, generate 5 random numbers at the start of each match for which variables get the destructible = true boolean). This creates a king of the hill effect, but counters mindless spamming of knockbacks (like on skyhammer). The parts that are able to break must be randomized each match so that you don’t just have ppl running over and smashing the same place each time (that’s no fun).
This makes the boat the focal point of the map, since ranged players could snipe the players in the water as they try to board the ship. It would be like an actual pirate fight theme. - Step 3) Nerf the amount of points for holding the side nodes, put destructible trampolines on the side nodes (that can only be used by the team that controls that node) that can launch players from the side nodes onto the deck of the ship. Flying around as a pirate feels cool, trying to hold a pirate ship while other pirates are flying at you feels b@d@ss. -put the repair bundles for trampolines near the cannon and under the island where the old mid node used to be.
- Step 4) Players that control the ship have access to a trampoline at one end of the ship that can launch them towards the cannon. This makes “abandoning ship” feel cooler, and counters zerging in a way that still allows for counter play. Eg; 1 player sitting mid, sees enemy team about to zerg mid, jumps ship and cannons them all (but they can jump after him once they’ve neutralized && capped the ship node).
- Step 5) the “toggle nomalized character models in sPvP” option in settings panel renders everyone on this map in the pirate outfit.
