The sPvP complaints
Great questions. I like both but enjoy PvP a lot more.
1. There are a lot of old rumors floating around, especially that bunkers are dominant because of conquest. A lot of WvW players don’t realize that most teams (average or high tier) only want 1 bunker, or 2 at the most. There was a period of about a month after launch when no one could figure out how to kill a bunker guardian, and I think a lot of people just gave up after a couple tries and blamed conquest.
2. I’m not sure what to suggest about this one. Hotjoin is definitely not the same—I wouldn’t really recommend it to anyone. However, in my experience, conquest promotes active combat because it forces confrontation. Think of all the kiting that happens in WvW—there’s a havoc squad over there harrassing people, I’d better not go near them as a solo player. Oops, here comes our zerg—now the havoc squad is running away. Okay, here’s someone—ah, here come his friends; better kite them around to our nearest tower, there’s no way I can fight 6 people at once. That’s why I feel that conquest equals more fighting, not less.
3. Ask them if they’ll just follow the zerg all day because the rewards are better. They’ll say no, we care about good PvP more than rewards! Argument won.
It’s true that builds are less powerful in PvP than in WvW by a lot. This is a good thing and promotes careful theorycrafting rather than just taking an incredibly powerful combination of stats, runes, and food. A lot of WvW consists of fighting people much less skilled than you and much worse geared than you (I know that’s not true of GvG, but of WvW in general) and you don’t get to do that in PvP.
4. There’s still usually a necro or two each match, two or three warriors, and any mix of the other six professions. Engineers are very popular right now, I think because they’re not OP or cheesy but they can certainly compete with anything. That, and they’re the most fun profession to play.
I’m also pretty confused by this, and the GvG community using the PvP forums as leverage to lobby against the upcoming bloodlust patch is not helping.
I agree with you. I understand people want GvG. Honestly though, GvG with the current combat mechanics and state it would be so bad. It would probably be less popular than sPvP. Thats a different thread though haha.
I just dont get the complaints that people give when spvp offers viable solutions. They claim to know everything by just talking to people when they should be playing, watching champions, etc.
the focus on spvp, destroys wvw atm. warior trains in a vz situation are terrible. u think u have more builds? nope u need toughness and armor and aoe abilities. im forced to be support with veil/tw/nullfield/portal as i lack everything else. rangers are so rare i can count like 5 in wvw a day(and i play like 6-8 hours in wvw and face a ton of zergs of 30+) all u see is warriors and necros atm. anet please focus on zvz for the next balance patch and not spvp.
the balance problem forces u to join the zerg as if u dont run warrior or necro it is hard to survive with a small group. small coordinated groups that arent warrior trains should be able to make a difference in wvw.

originally, combos are meant to be affected by more than 5 people. and they make it 5. but do you see in sPvP combos being used in its full potential?
its comparable to teeth being fashioned to chew meat but all that is available are protein shake.
and why is 5v5 being prioritized in a massively online played game? 5++v5++ should be the logical result.

I’m not sure if I use combos to my full potential in PvP or not, but I certainly try. I regularly use fire, light, and smoke, and sometimes poison and water depending on build.
The decision to switch combos/support abilities to only affect five people was a WvW balance decision, as people were portal bombing in and spamming heals that AoE couldn’t touch due to the 5-person cap on damage. And what evidence do you have to support the claim that 5v5 is being “prioritized”?

Hmm, I understand your frustration with WvW, but I don’t think the PvP devs are to blame.
well they are as the balance team only balances around spvp and those balance patches affect wvw aswell as they dont separate the gamemodes. if they would focus on a zvz fight and balance around that just once. mesmers and rangers would maybe get the well deserved buffs in wvw.
in spvp i dont feel like i need much as i feel much more viable as i have more build options on my mes than in wvw. in wvw im forced into support, ugh!
