The unlocks are a BAD idea
Make the last implemented healing skills also unlocked please.
This is absolutely horrendous and bad for the game’s longevity. Do not do this please.
Unlocks are absolutely atrocious please undo the implementation of the new healing skills and don’t introduce anything to this effect at any future juncture. It’s not good for the game, no matter what your polls say.
dont implement unlocks please anet

I don’t want unlocks either. I already wasted 25 skill points on the engineer heal that I wound up hating. I couldn’t even try it out first. If I have to grind for other skills/gear then I’ll just quit the game. Aesthetic grind is fine but not this.
we will see if anet listens…they ignored the community when it came to implementing diamond skin

If they dont listen this time no one will stay here once wildstar is released
i’m very much against sPvp progression, this is dealbreaker for me (and any casual probably)
but, i believe in this case we have miscommunication. devs said in stream that these will be easy unlcks, sort of get you feet wet, 5scrolls (skills) gets you account-wide access. and in a way that might indeed help newplayer.
what would really help new player are few preset templates per each prof.
Much has been done since this game’s release to ignore the pridefully advertised absence of obligatory grind. Of course, it was never true to claims even on Day 1. When we reached 80 on our first character, to our disbelief, we still needed to grind dungeons endlessly to gear it up—obligatory grind.
However, sPVP has always been true to the marketing claims, their manifesto (there’s even that Manifesto video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FU1JUwPqzQY). It has also been immune to the rapidly growing, obligatory grind/gear progression in the rest of the game—first the time-intensive and gated acquisition of Ascended trinkets, and now, the unfathomably time-intensive and expensive acquisition of Ascended armor and the extremely rare loot-dependent acquisition of Ascended weapons, if you don’t find crafting eminently exciting.
And so when one new Healing skill became an “unlockable,” something to be attained through progression, it was worrisome. But now that we know it wasn’t an aberration, Arena Net can no longer claim there is no obligatory grind in any part of their game.
There are things that make Guild Wars 2 distinctively different and appealing to present and new players. One of the most unique is the (formerly) grind-free sPVP. To be able to tell friends who like MMORPGS but are fatigued by the time investment (i.e., grind) or friends who hate them them because of the time investment, to try Guild Wars 2, because there’s this one part of the game that has none of it, is a singularly compelling argument. No MMORPG out there, or maybe ever, can claim to have something like this.
Why would you wish to toss out such an amazing differentiator?
Can explain to us, transparently, why you’ve made this decision? If, for example, your metrics guided you to this decision, as it predicts or shows that this will grow the player base and aid with retention, then let us know. It may smack of corporate cynicism, but at least we’ll have a reason. As is, we’re just confounded as to why.
Thanks to Marcos for the poll.
LoL has kittening ages worth of unlocks.
You have to play the game for a few years, hardcore, to get all the champions.
Btw…
It’s the most popular online game out.
But you may say ‘I hate LoL! I hate unlocks’…
Ehh. They are like titles and tweaks to customize your character all in one.
They are in next to every PvP game and unlocks are a staple of MMOs.
You’re in the wrong genre to complain about things you have to spend time to get.
…Anyways…
It’s just this company.
I don’t think the company has the resources to release any notable PvP change and have it be high enough quality to actually improve the game.

It is a BAD idea and it’s exactly why it will continue to make its way into the game.
I agree.
One of the most attractive things about gw2 pvp has always been it’s ease of access. Everyone starts on equal footing. You’re basically telling new players and new spvp players they can’t play the builds they want until they unlock stuff. Not a good move.

Id say the only attractive thing
Will just throw on in my 2 cents. Unlocks are a bad idea, and anet should feel bad for considering them.
Unlocks are awful, please stop.
All your base are belongg to us [AYB]
Sylvari are people not produce [PETP]
Leave pvp’s founding principle of equal footing alone. Thanks.
“The jealous are troublesome to others, but certainly a torment to themselves.”
Please have everyone start on EQUAL FOOTING.
A day 1 player MUST have the same capabilities as a 2 yr player.
In which game has this been the case?
I like the idea of unlocks as it’s rewarding and shows progression. The unfortunate thing is this is only ideal in a dream world were all builds are balanced and not having access to few builds doesn’t hurt that bad.
On another note if these new skills require a high skill cap then it’s going to make life for a new player a lot easier because they are limited to skills that will ease them into the game. One of the biggest issues in this game in my perspective is it can’t hold the newbies.
For me it’s also opened my eye to some pve were getting skill points is extremely quick and easy so new players would first learn their class mechanics at least to some degree before jumping into our solo queues with r1.
Please have everyone start on EQUAL FOOTING.

Guild wars 2 PvP. That’s the game in which this is the case. Full stop, end of story. GW2 PvP was advertised and released as something awesome that everyone has access to with no restrictions of any sort. This breaks that.

Well, GW2 was advertised how it took the best from GW1, but that bubble burst rather fast…………………………………………..
Dat lore.
When you think about it, it is somewhat funny how posters here are often countered by Anet labelling controversial posts as ‘hyperboles’, yet a large chunk of Anet’s marketing strategy was one big fat hyperbole in and off itself. They knew EXACTLY the game they were making wasn’t anything like GW1, nor was it intended for GW1 fans, yet still advertised it as such.
So no, it matters kitten what they advertized it as. They may change it as much as they feel like it, especially given how the sales already reached their peak and are now (very likely) declining. But hey, there’s always China to come to the rescue.
