The worst strategy ?
5 on trebuchet is much worst.
Depends on how quick (if) kills are made and what people do after the cap….
That’s actually ideal to me, but most people don’t know how to pull that off…
Playing side points is actually just a tactic for opening up mid point for capture. If you don’t play for mid after taking one or both sides then you risk leaving your team stranded on islands they can’t support each other from. All it takes is a quick head count from your opponent to know which point to overwhelm with a simple majority and break your two cap hold.
It also concedes the middle of the map which is arguably the most beneficial of the three capture points on any map since it provides site lines to most of the map and the option to choose a side point of your choosing with short rotations for teammates to rotate support back and forth.
When to use it: When the other team has stacked slow moving bunkers on mid and stalled the cap, that’s when you try for sides to drag them off mid, separating the tanks which reduces their effectiveness making them easier to kill, and thereby opening up mid for easier capture.
If you’re not using it to play for mid though then you’re just dividing your forces wrecklessly.

2-0-3 is not a good strategy in my opinion. Playing sides isn’t bad in itself, but if you are going to ignore mid, go 1-0-4. There is no need to have 2 people sat on close if you are looking for an early kill at far. A better side point-focused strategy in my opinion is 1-1-3 where you send a Druid, engi or ele to mid to hold back 3-4 players while one is being killed at far. If the player at mid is good, they will be able to hold mid contested (especially on foefire) until the rest of the team comes to help after capping close and getting a kill on far.
However, I would not recommend this strategy for regular use. It would be good if you have a comp with multiple theives and 0-1 bunkers but if you have a normal kind of comp, a 1-3-1 is the best way to go.

You can pull it off a lot easier on non-Foefire maps. Temple has a nearly direct line of sight between the two and mid doesn’t cut off reinforcements at all.
That strategy (anti-pattern) is easy to beat. They can simply leave a bunker/bruiser on mid and send 3 home, for 4v3 on their home, or send 3 far for a 3v2 on your home.
Either way, you gave them 2 easy ways to create a +1 situation in their favor. Their home defender simply needs to peel away and head to mid if they decide to go to your home.
That being said, I won one of those games today in gold. The 2man team had some sort of bunker guard that was holding 3 noobs at bay on middle. Whatever, I was running LB zerk Ranger and mowing everything down cause I got angry at playing in Gold. The level of play in gold is so pitiful, you can play how you want and win anyway. It doesn’t really matter what you do.
You can also do everything right and loose. Just smile and have fun. Gold is full of a mixture of really skilled players, and complete beginners at the moment.

Agreed that can work really well on Temple.

Temple is the only map where Mid is not the strongest capture point. That’s primarily because of Line of Site but also because of control of Stillness.

the other day before start a team member said he/she would take home and the rest roam around. sad part is they lesoned and everyone ran around like a chicken with its head cut off

Players that are new to PvP as a whole and are still learning, absolutely have no place in a competitive Ranked League PvP at all. Raise the PvP rank requirement to 80. Make them work for their right to troll the players who are actually trying.
I don’t care about people alt accounts. If you want to make a alt account for PvP yet don’t what to do the work for then simple, that alt account hasn’t met the requirements to enter Ranked matches.
This in it’s self would at least limit the “Oh I only came here to get easy shinies crowd.” Or else it’s just another reason why your Ranked League will always be a joke to the rest of the Competitive PvP community across the gaming world with 5 million USD and up events and stuff. and many many many thousands of people watching, hell some have events in sold out stadiums bigger then the Super Bowls in real life btw.
But at least I admit it!
PoF guys get ready for PvE joys
I won a match in Foefire today using basically that strat. Two went far and two of us escorted a third to home. It split their team enough (they had two eles and we didn’t have any ele) that the two of us who escorted home could contest mid before they capped it. It completely depends upon team comp and what you think you can kill fast enough.
