Hmm, with the way the game is currently set up, there seems to be a lot of cases where 1v1 or 2v1 combat occurs, due to the meta of bunkers/roamers. Personally I feel this is not the best situation to explore the depth in GW2’s combat, which mostly comes from team combat.

I wonder what the game would look like if tPvP was 8v8?

Now, the kneejerk response would be to look at 8v8 hotjoin and predict it will be a zergfest. But I’m not so sure.

Let’s assume Team A approaches the fight like a hotjoin zergfest.
Let’s assume Team B approaches the fight like a scaled-up 5v5. In other words, two “bunker teams” of 2 players, and a roaming team of 4 players.

I’m no tPvP expert but simple logic would conclude that Team B can hold 2/3 points all the time vs. the zerg, even if they cannot defeat the zerg. Thus winning the match?


So are there better team structures that can beat Team B? Like two teams of 3, and one team of 2, and basically just assaulting every point simultaneously? Maybe 8v8 will turn into a set of team deathmatches, 3v3 + 3v3 + 2v2?

Or maybe 2 bunkers and a full zerg of 6? Or something else?


Putting all of that aside, are 3v3 and 2v2 fights more interesting than 1v1s? What about 4v4? 5? 6? 7? 8? Does the team mechanics break down once a certain number of players is reached?

hotjoin is 8v8 and it sucks.
if you want conquest mode 8v8 u need to raise cap points from 3 to 5 at least.
if you want DM, you need to rework the game. or go in hotjoin.

Need much larger, 8v8 specific maps if they want to do tpvp with 8v8

Probably like 5 nodes instead of 3, and map size about 1.5 current size. And if you thought portal was needed now, it would be mandatory in 8v8.

Call me when this game gets fixed…. if it ever does….

It would be interesting to see much larger maps with a much more strategically implemented approach, but I highly doubt this will happen.

as it stands in the current 8vs8 aoe can be very useful in a way its just not in tpvp .

any bunkers on a point will die from 8 people focusing them down in half a second.

We’ll be seeing more bunker eles. A comp of 6 X/D bunker eles, 2 on each point will have little fear of being zerged since they can stall but disengage whenever they want to :X

But yeah, this won’t happen unless they make larger maps with objectives other than point capture.

I think the newest map could work as an 8v8 tPvP map and was likely designed as the boiler plate for such an idea.

I dont feel like I’m getting very considered responses here. If we increase the number of capture points, then we’ll be spreading out the players and getting a lot of 1v1 and 2v1s again.

As for zerging, how will zerging beat an organised team of 8?

because the maps are so small and travel time is insignificant. 8 people can kill 4 people defending any point. and repeat before the first 4 spawns.

this game is balanced around 1-2 players engaging.
