Anet had a chance to add in a new game mode and bring life back to the PvP scene. Instead they took that chance and threw it away….

Let me explain.

Stronghold could have been the new Guild vs Guild combat.
They could have added a in-game ranking system to drive competitiveness.
They could have given it its own queue.
They could have had multiple maps dedicated to this game mode even involving your guilds personal guild halls (like in gw1).
They could have done a lot of things.

Instead they chose to treat this new PvP game mode as nothing more then a mini game thrown into the rotation of the other awful maps.

I completely agree, this was their shot to really expand the pvp system. This could have been a great original GW-like GvG system if they played their cards right. They could have made it 7v7/8v8, added numerous guild halls to choose from, a ranking system like GW’s….

For me, this game will never match up to the original. They put a lot of effort into this and tried to try something new, and I applaud them for that; however, the combat, pvp modes, and game mechanisms for GW made for the basis of a great PvP game and that’s what they should have stuck with and built off of. I know many people like this type of gameplay and pvp, but I know far more who preferred the original…

To this day, I miss playing Prot and Fuze and I think that “holy trinity” really wasn’t like any other game because of how the healer/protection worked so pro-actively. Let alone, you actually had to work as a team to push kills or put yourself in position to make kills. I miss everything about that game from Pressure to Dedicated Spikes to Honor Balance and all the roles professions played in each of those team builds. I miss the basic mechanics of the game and the intricacies of the combat and gameplay. Hell, I even miss the PvE!

GW had its faults but it was a highly well-designed game. They took solely the faults of the original and changed everything rather than taking the positives and building off of them to avoid the negatives.

I like the idea of being able to que for Conquest, Stronghold OR a “Both” option where you get taken into whatever needs players at the time. Then have “Call to Arms!” For anything under-played at a given time for increased silver and reward track progression or something, that displays CTA on the pvp que page. Of course that means more work for the devs but would be a far better solution.

Maybe if everyone put “I will not conquest to Stronghold!” In their signature it’s send a message?

I’m missing something…was there an announcement that stated all of this?

I assumed it would be its own mid, with its own queue, leaderboard, etc.

Don’t waste this fantastic opportunity. If stronghold becomes way more popular than conquest THAT IS A GOOD THING.

It’s stupid. It’s like they’re not even trying anymore to please people in sPvP. I seriously don’t think people are asking them to give them the moon or anything. It’s just asking for separate queues for their soon-to-be three game modes.

To be honest, it’s a completely new game mode so not having multiple maps at first is a good thing for everyone. When it gets more popular they can always add more maps.

About everything else: yeah such a wasted opportunity

100% agree with OP.

This was their chance and now this new game-mode is going to be the new Courtyard Deathmatch—AKA another map no one gives two kittenns about since there’s no reason to care for it or spec specifically for it.

It won’t even appear in tournament rotations, and if it does it will be irrelevant since the primary focus is conquest.

For being the new game-mode comign with the expansion I am extremely disappointed. Whenever GW1 had an expansion it came with a brand new game-mode, it’s own unique, PRESTIGIOUS reward system, tournament series, special unique titles that were IMPOSSIBLE to max, and the competitive community played them to death.

Basically since stronghold is getting no other support, it’s just another map with a slightly different objective to win.

This Anet of today is clearly not the same as the one from Gw1, such a shame, awesome combat system but clearly a lack of clear focus higher up in the company hierarchy.

As someone who only played GW1 for the GvG I will admit I was hoping they were going to take steps towards adding in a GvG style pvp with Stronghold. I had mixed emotions about Stronghold the more I heard about it. But I was still hopeful this could turn into something good. The initial thing was “Guild Ranks”, which in my opinion drives competitiveness up and adds more and more players to the PvP scene.

I find it really hard for myself, someone who played GW1 top 10 GvG for over 7 years to even get into PvP now in GW2 cause rankings are on a website not in game. And being on a “team” doesn’t give me a guild rank. Then taking a new PvP game type "with different strategies/builds/tactics and throwing it into the other maps rotations.. Even the Anet employees say “this new game mode uses different builds and tactics”. So If I queue for conquest and someone picks stronghold and now we are on stronghold HOW is this helping me out. Example being what if I play support ele for stronghold but on conquest I play hambow, is there going to be dishonor for swapping? Why even put them in the same rotation.

The frustration is real.

They put a lot of effort into this

Really? i actually dont think Anet put any effort at all in spvp, since day one. It has been the least popular mode since lunch and you have the same 5 maps you had since. I mean, maps people, it chump change for anet to sit down a couple of artists and a programer and release a new map every couple of months, yet the game mode that needs support the most is the one that gets the least.

Spvp and pvp in general need
-Reduced particle effects.
-UI customization options, full moding alas WOW.
-Needs to slow down a lot.
-Needs to bring the trinity back.
-Needs casts bars.

The term Exploit means nothing in GW2 –

Maybe it is more likely that they will listen to people and change stuff based on feedback (as they have done before) if people gives said feedback in a nice and constructive way rather than raging or talking about how useless ArenaNet are?

Yeah. I’m for less particle effects, and actually a bit slower pace overall might not be a bad thing.

- But absolutely not, I hate WoW’s UI customization. It becomes way more of a UI whack-a-mole. they did the right thing having everyone on a similar playing field.
- They have their own trinity, bunkers, support and zerker- with various subsets and bruisers.
- They have castbars, its reading the enemy’s animations. What they need more than animations is fewer instant cast abilities that can stack together, especially on Fresh Air eles. They can be compensated otherwise, but instant burst like that is the wrong way to design a build.

Have you seen the reward tracks? They are nothing but ways to get pvpers to quit pvp and do other game modes. Before you’d have a bunch of lvl 2 pvpers, now all of a sudden they’re 80 with a bunch of exotic gear. Time to leave pvp!

LOL! Let me restate to say that they have put effort into it (without declaring how much). To emphasize again, they should have stuck with what they had in the original GW and built onto it. GW2 pvp is nothing in comparison to the pvp in the original.

There is definitely a need for a decrease in particle effects because it’s really just a cluttered mess of kitten, for lack of a better term.

UI customization in the original was great, they should have gone to a scheme similar to that where you could move stuff around and resize to your hearts content.

This trinity isn’t really a trinity, it’s just differing levels of damage and defense: overly simple. (To me, this is highly important because they removed complexity and the importance of working as a team by doing this).

The original actually did a great job of animations, I knew many players (like myself) who interrupted off of casting animation in certain situations and off the cast bar in others.
