They are not Overpowered.
what? 14k trap? what in the world must have been all 5 traps on one location and the player not dodging them. Chronos problem is with bit too much stealth time. my reaper can burst hard but its a CD on use which is kiteable/peelable.
And as for DH, DH is anti melee. They are super squishy asthey talent into traps they hold no defensive and any range can easily poke them down.
As for getting one shot by the traps there is a way to avoid them and its to see when they put them down/ there is a small dely on them activating where you can dodge (if you dodge one you are likely to avoid all 3/4/5 trap burst as DH usually drop traps all on one spot instantly). DH is there for the traps, the only reason bow is viable in pvp is because it complements the traps, the traps have a big downtime and are avoidable with CD burn or rolling. Avoid the traps and they get reckt.
and to add to the trap 14-20k to get hit that hard you would have to try your best not to dodge and just stand still, most classes have invulnerability/mobility/stun breaks. Its just going to take a while for people to get use to the new builds and how to deal with them, as the damage is quite spikey with them.
I think if anything beserker just needs a buff aswel as daredevil as its a non stealth build and theifs are still treated as stealther’s when it comes to defensive. staff theif is the most squishiest spec out, like it can get one shot by anything.

personally i think the cc is only part of the issue (although a significant part, to be sure). for pvp, some of these new specs are significantly stronger and harder to counter than any other build that is currently in the game. i think another piece of the puzzle has to do with the importance of “fighting on point” in conquest and controlling certain objectives (ie, summoning heroes in stronghold).
as for the cc-fest, the game was already headed in that direction, with cc being all too common and some form of stability, invulnerability (and one or more stunbreaks) necessary on virtually every build. i think the issue here is that there needs to be a bigger tradeoff for having more cc. dragonhunter and scrapper seem the most op atm, and i think it’s because they have great burst dps, with tons of cc, stability and sustain, and solid team support. at the same time, they are also able to counter the burst of other builds with invulnerability and blocks.
i think the rest of the elite specs are pretty much in line with standard builds, with chrono, herald, and possibly tempest edging them out, in that order. reaper can be strong, but there is a tradeoff to their wealth of cc: slow attack speed. just like a warrior’s hammer, most of their cc’s are slow and telegraphed, and a cc-chain can be broken with a single stunbreak and dodge.
btw, this is coming from someone who mains an engi with a lot of time spent playing guard, necro and ele, so i’m not trying to single any other profession out.
i agree that berserker could probably use a buff. not sure about daredevil, tbh, but in any case i’m probably not qualified to comment on either so take that with a grain of salt.
i think another issue at hand here is what some of these new specs are doing to overall build diversity: with so much CC and burst damage, players are basically forced into taking whatever invulnerability, stability and stunbreaks they can. not because of personal preference, but because they are necessary. i mean look at engi, the most common utilities i see most players running are tool kit and elixir S, just for the invuln.
i don’t know what the solution is, just pointing out that there are multiple issues going on that need to be dealt with, and that there are also some clear winners and losers as far as elite specs go.

Yeah, but earth traits just function better than water for tempest (for defense and sustain), and I don’t view that shocking aura as powerful as it could be without protection.

It’s not the profession, it’s the foolish amount of CC they added.
a 14k-20k damage trap is nothing.
a 14k damage trap when you are perma stun locked is asinine.Chrono / Reaper / Dh, all the ones they are calling OP are only that way because you guy’s went full _ on CC.
It’s time to add DR. or take away the crazy amount of stun’s taunt’s dazes, ect ect you keep adding that is destroying this games combat mechanics.

To every elite spec getting CC, (when we had more then enough to begin with)please get well soon arena net.
If you’re a class that lacks stunbreakers and/or stability then you better start roaming with a class/classes who can offer both.
If there’s a power creep, there’s almost always a counter reaction for it. If everyone is playing cc power burst builds in a pug match, why fight fire with fire? Bring supports for your group. If you’re on a team, you better get more syncronized.

Yeah, I’m torn on whether they meant Berserker or not. They are obviously a Necro main, but Berserker is the only Elite not being used in competitive. Hmm…

from some of the comments it seems like some of you guy’s thought this was a nerf thread, I didn’t mean it to be, being a daredevil i have 0 problems with any of these classes.
Saiyan you can have at most 3 stun breakers (most only roll 2 though), you are fighting a team of 5 player’s (obviously not at once), most professions have multiple CC, you see the problem You simply can not keep up anymore, CC has always been a weakness towards a thief (rightly so) They had more then enough pre patch, now it’s getting spammy. I’m thinking this is why so many thieves are stating “Buff Thief’s” I also have no clue how they can fix this at this point in time though. Most of these stunlock spec’s seemed to be designed for killing Passive professions.
My point was (but i fail at basic spelling and sentence structure) was it’s not the High Damage, but high damage plus CC., i’m all for Stunlock builds and high burst builds, but you have to spec for them, not have one with the other. (Thieves are just as bad with things like Panic strikes, Soh (daze) Immobilize stacking.

This is well stated actually, no fail here.
Too many specs have access to too much all around. Primarily too much CC and not enough actual counter play for it. It really is time to implement diminishing returns on CC that stays through death.
I really agree and think CC is the main problem currently. And in particular, AOE CC coming from everywhere. Though I must say the amount of AOE damage in general is quite high. Standing on a point has become a dangerous art.

I can confirm that I’ve been hit for 14k by one trap while playing a cele d/d ele, the DH was full glass though. That DH could negate all damage I did about 85% of the time. Nice build for 1v1, don’t know how insane it would be in team fights but it was absolutely mind blowing in 1v1.
