Honestly, have played a fair bit of team queue since the patch and the best comp pre patch seems even more invincible post-patch.
Basically any thief/mesmer team has had a significant advantage over others in this game for quite a while now. Almost all the high rated teams/players in EU now play in teams and pugs which use the thief/mesmer comp.
The combination of thief/mesmer pretty much makes it hard to play with every other comp. The amount of damage, evasion, stealth and mobility that these two classes have mean that together they can ensure a game is almost unwinnable for teams not running thief/mesmer. IDK why anet keep nerfing thief in ways which in reality don’t really nerf them (reduce damage slightly whilst buffing evasion of s/d, trying to nerf initative gain and in fact mega buffing it, etc). I think increasing cd of withdraw and removing and changing feline grace and making sword 2 not work out of line of sight would be suitable. I would love to see more skill based d/p or s/p thieves become the go to thief spec. And buffing mesmer damage made no sense at all. I really don’t get that. Its damage was already too high, plain and simple.
I think 95% of my losses come vs thief/mesmer comp. The individual skill of those teams is secondary to their comp. The reason I know this is the games are similarly hard almost irrespective of who the players are.
I think something needs to be done to ensure that classes which do alot of damage are easily focussed and killed. Warrior seems balanced currently. Even ele, whilst very strong, can be killed.
Have you played a thief and mesmer? EG: the hardest two classes in the game right now?
Because your terrormancer require a very high skill level to be played.
Some of the best teams still play thief\mesmer because they are fun to play while this 5 bunker celestial meta is so boring to watch and play.
thief and mesmer are not the hardest classes in game at all and you shouldn’t base the difficulty on classes anyway but on builds.
thieves were brought a bit more in line with other specs but are to this date superior to most of the berserk specs and so are mesmer.
what makes these 2 classes so good? the survivability they have next to their high damage output.
now survivability does not mean how many hitpoints you have or how much protection uptime you can get. it is about the evades and the ability to disengage or to get out of focus.
if you dont believe me, go play power engi or scepter berserk ele.

ofc people want that. thief ruins the gameplay for all other classes. it’s not even if thieves are strong or not it’s just the playstyle which is hated.
when i learned one thing from any mmo it is that stealth or evading classes are hated the most. it is a psychological barrier, you “can’t hit” what you don’t see and you rage when you see something but still can’t hit it.
other than that, thieves destroy the gameplay for other berserk classes. so do mesmers to a certain degree. both classes are good against boon heavy classes which is another advantage in this meta.

all i see is celestial comps and at least 3 engis every match…. i think it was last tourney where there wasn’t a single thief on any team
OP must be high. Loads of top teams in EU who don’t run thief + mesmer combo.
Dunno if Khylo would be the only map in this game I would agree but on other maps the mobility is not that big of a factor.
The stealth and the fact that they can 2v1 everything in seconds is annoying but on the other side when you only go for two points they are either forced to teamfight with 2 squishies or to let one of their squishies watch close, which usually isn’t the best idea.

Dunno if Khylo would be the only map in this game I would agree but on other maps the mobility is not that big of a factor.
The stealth and the fact that they can 2v1 everything in seconds is annoying but on the other side when you only go for two points they are either forced to teamfight with 2 squishies or to let one of their squishies watch close, which usually isn’t the best idea.
It is by far the worst on khylo, but my point stands for other maps too. Too much mobility/burst. Really hard to play a necro in a bunker comp vs thief/mesmer comp. Just get farmed all game.

Happened to me some times today on my berserker. Just because a mesmer cant maybe oneshot a warrior doesn’t mean he can’t oneshot other berserkers or light celestials.

If by damage you mean shatter BURST then yes sure it’s good, although hard to land fully. But if by damage you mean dps, I don’t think mesmer is any better than lb ranger, medi guard or zerk thief. As a light armor, medium health class, mesmer relies on active defense, kiting and excellent positioning to stay alive, and this is all away from the time you could be doing damage. Thus, the sustained damage turns out to be quite poor. Go on, try spatial surging or staffing someone to death, good luck.

Sure you would get one shot, if you weren’t running faceroll DD ele and spamming water skills to instantly recover to full 100%. Zapdos, dont even try man, your actually trying to get Mesmer, the worst class nerfed cuz your so scared Helseth and TCG are gonna destroy you because their skill beats your ultimate cheese bunker comp. Maybe if you weren’t carried by builds you guys could get good at the game and win instead of camping home all game.

risk reward friend, go play a mesmer and see for it youself, the amount of skill and situation awareness it require to set up a shatter is a lot of skill, and should be rewarding accordingly.

It’s obvious you get farmed, teef-mes can outnumber easily and if you play nec on a bunker-cele comp you’ll be the n.1 target.
Call your ele/war ( ele better) to rotate back and play on 2 points, call target on D/P teef ( if D/P) or mes if thief is S/D and rofl at them.
Playing nec is hard against thief-mes but it’s usually downright fault of bad rotations on your team part if u get farmed all match.
Unless you’re always playing on khylo, thief-mes is very easily countered right now.
OP is a well known thief hater, nothing new to see here. Also his brainless Terrormancer is an hard counter for every thief. Of course teams that still prefer to bring 2\3 zerkers for burst over teams with 5 celestial builds, if they focus well can take down every bunker spec in seconds. But that is called good teamplay and coordination vs lazy bunkerish teams.
At least you need to be a very good mesmer to survive in a teamfight with very good positioning and sense of tactic/kiting. You need to have very good mechanics in the game.
Besides the mesmer great damage from distance, i think thief/mesmers are super strong if well played because they can force you to play outnumbered the entire game or lose the point easily.
Mesmer has a great mobility, if you well manage illusionary leap and portal, you can force people to be outnumbered.

I understand your pain but Necro will always be very high up the kill list because it can’t run and cannot be allowed to free cast – if you put that massive target next to 4 Celestials you will be jumped by everything. Celest teams also will likely have a hard time keeping you safe because they won’t have the same prefered position as you and the foes you fear teleport (Celest will not want to sit off point just to protect you if you’re jumped).
Why do you run Necro in a Celest comp? If the answer is “to be stronger against other Celest comps” you need to take with it that burst comps will have a delicious target. (I’m assuming that is the reason cause I’ve watched you munch those boons hard). Its sorta a rock/paper/scissors thing for your specific comp, perhaps suggest a switch up of classes (not specificly the Necro) when you see a Burst comp?
