Thieves and Pistols...So...
I was playing around with dueling for mesmer in the past, slotting evasive mirror.
Had one thief killed himself with unload while I was fighting another ele, literally didn’t pay attention to that thief then turn around spotted a downed player.
^ this lol, Ele, Engie, Mesmer and Warrior make P/P hell
Even Necromancer has the necessary tools to counter unload spam.

Dual or MH pistol? No, Not at all. The ramp up in damage is to easy to play around, almost every build has a method to deal with it, and thief being a decent natural counter to mes then dies to meta reflects.
Offhand Pistol especially with dagger, I think would be a better topic of discussion.
“Maybe I was the illusion all along!”
What I love doing on my Ele and Warrior is popping reflects. That’s called a counter.
It works great against bad P/P thieves who just keep spamming 3. It’s delightful to see the number “10000” appear on my screen for once.

lol why you gotta say it like that
Hehe, I would be a happy Scrapper if more thieves run p/p.
i just love fighting players who uses reflectable ranged weapons.

I have yet to encounter a single thief with P/P in my entire GW2 time. I have only encountered that once in hot-join, but he was just messing around :]
Assuming you are serious: p/p is noob stomper, doesn’t work vs anyone with half brain.
Most P/P thieves I see unload spam into a bunch of blocks, reflection walls, magnetic auras and so on….
If it works well for you, then keep doing it
….. And Elementalist.
Alright, as a thief main in pvp, I’m curious:
Does anybody else feel like thief pistol dual wield is a little too good? Especially given the removal of the more bunkery pvp trinkets recently, it just feels like a low skill, low interest, high payout ability. Lately I’ve seen not a single thief not equipping double pistol in pvp (yes myself included).
Thank you for opinions, if any
P/p has always been like that tbh
gw1 – healing signet/frenzy/charge
P/P thief is OK and i like it. But you need brain as thief …. Shooting blindly on a scrapper or if ele is near is suicide. But i play him only ocasional as fun build. Worked surprisingly well but i did a quite strange P/P trapper with traper rune. It´s a full kiting build avoiding melee.
An intelligent player on thief will know when to unload and when to kite.
I’ve been caught a few times with my pants down (you don’t expect it) but very rarely do I have issues due to the thief’s personal skill level.
P/P could be pretty competitive if ANet improved Pistol 2 to actually have some kind of utility. Even something like this could completely change the skillset to be really valid:
Ground Shot: 2 initiative. Shoot the ground at your feet, dealing medium AOE damage and executing a blast finisher at your location.
Pistol pistol build was my favourite fun build to play before richochet nerf. Now it is total crap if your opponent has more than a miniscule brain. I still hope for the return of richochet though.
I find P/P useful for mid fights. When people are not paying attention to you. Try to use P/P against someone looking at you and your dead.

I do not PvP but in WvW P/P works fine if you recognize its limitations and use it to supplemnt another set. if all you do is spam the unload , you will burn ini and die to reflect or follow up attacks.
It effective or an OBSERVANT player (ie relect block not up…..unload good) who is willing to use it for those brief damage spikes and Might stacking , then switching off to the other weapon set to use might enhanced attacks.
Obviously given the seeming neccessity for SB alternate for thief in PvP , it would be less usable in PvP for this reason. (altho a might stacked cluster bomb hurts)
I have to say, p/p thief is one of the very worst builds in the entire game for pvp. I mean it is really terrible because of how easy it to dodge/block/reflect all of its burst. It is such a bad build that I will actually engage a 1v2 on an enemy point if one of the enemies is a p/p thief and usually win or at least kill the thief and force the decap before he comes back.
Of course an extremely good player could do well with it as with any build which I guess is what the complaint about the build comes from, but they could play d/p instead of p/p and be 100x more effective.
I think most of the complaints about builds like this come from the fact that they are used so infrequently that most players do not even know what the skills do (myself included) so struggle against them more than they should. For example even though warr was totally awful in season 2, I almost always lost against it because I had literally no idea what it’s skills did or what I should dodge. Right now I struggle far more against something like greatsword power necro when played to max potential than I do against meta power Rev played to max potential because I seriously do not know the animations or how much damage everything does.
I group p/p theif with things like condi ranger, power mesmer or condi engi- something I rarely see and when I do see them they are free kills unless the player is very, very good. I mean like world championship level.

i love playing full zerker p/p theif in unranked
when you can pull it off it is awesome
but as many have said, you give up a lot of utility,
against higher skill players don’t expect to do much.

I play a P/P on ocasion for fun. It´t fully focused on +1 and move. So what a thief should do. It´s not to fight 1:1 and can be quite nasty.
You might ask why traps and trapper…
It´s a lot fun. I don´t need ini for taking a stealth break for repositioning. Ini is for unload, headshot and move with bow… Nothing more. (ok sometimes a poision field)
Basi venom to go through block/reflect. Its often two unload and off again leaving a trap. Also shooting out of stealth makes sense using the short duration cloaks.
No stab and only one stunbreak makes it risky to fight longer but in solo Q it can leave people with tears :-). And it hits hard in a +1 at -50% targets. Unload + headshot in the back (remember impacting disruption + executioner is there)
What i miss is the extra ini from trickery but can´t have it all… Yes acrobatics is powerful with daredevil but this is not an evade build it´s pure hit and run.
Making the +1 second stealth working with traps woudl make me happy and give the underperforming traitline a bit more. Tought about using destroyer amulet but am to bad to handle so low HP and no armor… Maybe i try again but don´t play thief enough.

Even a x/p thief can counter a pewpew thief all you need is headshot + impacting disruption
Well unload shoudl be used smart not blindly …. I main ele and a p/p thief usually dies on my magnetic wave + released rock barrier ….
I actually run P/P sometimes but I swap out SB instead of D/P. The basic meta build with a few changes, D/P and P/P. But I only play it on small and horizontal maps like Colosseum. With any verticality, SB is just too good to pass up.
Sonya for females. (necro,rev,ranger,mes,engi)
All classes lvl 80.
I sometimes use staff pp acro trick daredevil for unranked. It has awesome 1v1 potential but it’s a really slow rotater. I think dp shortbow UC is an overall better build for arenas. Acro staff doesn’t have the burst or speed to really kill a UC teef in a 1v1 unless the UC teef decides to stick around too long in a 1v1.

Yeah I still find body shot 99% useless. There’s very little reason to ever use it over headshot. When people have condi duration reduction like warriors on it doesn’t even do anything. Wish they’d give it some type of aoe damage skill personally but a finisher beyond projectile could be fun as well~ or both ;s
I’m happy pistols are actually decent now (because gunning down things is the most fun ever) but aside from it’s #2 being one of the worst things to ever exist it has it’s downfall of being completely blocked by minions and like rangers you can interrupt their channel by flanking them and you’ll generally make a thief cancel his attacks to avoid you if you get close so you won’t be taking as much damage~ or they’d just stand there unloading and die in one hit otherwise… Unload and Sneak Attack are channeled so you can see the damage coming easily. Reflect, retaliation and CONFUSION are deadly and can potentially instakill a P/P Thief if he’s not careful. I hate fighting Mesmers in WvW with pistols, lol.
its pretty strong in PvE, but then again, PvE mobs don’t really reflect and survive intelligently. So I guess it’ll work against players who aren’t smarter than PvE mobs..

As a thief, you should just use your 4 headshot for free interrupts against p/p teefs. If you still have problems, you can always slot dagger storm as elite skill.
I believe necros could actually struggle against p/p teef due to low mobility.
