This is how you know pips are broken...
A loss is a loss, having such a close game is nice.
Remove the connection in your mind between a “high score” and PIP gain or loss.
In the case that one team has a much higher point score, but loses, it usually means that you zerged around the map, over rotating, getting decapped.
Unless you’re mostly insta-dying to superior coordination or skill, expect to lose a PIP m8

I think he is more upset that he lost 3 pips for such a close match, instead of losing at most 1 pip. And as to why, I think Anet’s reasoning was that your team must have had a really high chance to win. Such as, there was no way your team should of lost according to the difference in each team’s mmr.
You only break even or gain pips on a loss when the game expected you to lose due to facing a superior opponent, but you gave a good showing. Those games won’t happen every time.
In this case, you were facing an opponent that you were on even ground with. A roughly 50% chance that either team would win. So the winning team gains one pip, and the losing team loses one pip, no matter how close the score is. It’s the type of game matchmaking wants to set up.
The other games are anomalies. When matchmaking has to match teams of differing skill levels against each other because matches are taking too long to form. Pip gain on a close loss exists in those games as an apology for people who should be outmatched in their game, to try to encourage them to play hard anyway. And if that team can actually overcome the odds and beat the statistically superior opposition, then they’ll gain multiple pips for the win, while the defeated team will lose multiple pips for their defeat.
You just can’t expect to always gain a pip for losing. In the desired 50/50 matchup, you gain for winning and suffer for losing, and that’s that.

He only lost one pip. He lost the game by three points, that’s what he meant.
I agree it doesn’t warrant a 3 pip loss but it wasn’t a close game – that’s just an anomaly of that particular map which allows teams which are losing horribly to end up with a respectable score (+150) by killing the Lord.

Ah I see. Then yeah, 1 pip loss is completely normal. Loss is a loss after all.
Seems like it’s working fine. You lost the match you lost a pip. The map is what made it a close match I have a feeling had it been on one of the other maps your team probably would have been stomped.
the pvp system aint broken its complete garbage
he lost 1 pip.
because match prediction says his team has at least 40% chance to win.
if match prediction says your team has at least 40% chance to win, you will lose 1 pip if you lose. period.
he lost the game by 3 team score.
497 to 500.
Red team (me included) even have more personal points over the blue team.We managed to kill their lord, and then couldn’t recapture the points in time at the end while some of their team were on our lord.
/sigh…
Sounds like you killed the enemy lord too early. Most players wait until their team has a score of 350 before attacking the enemy lord. Personal points don’t really mean anything, especially if you aren’t holding onto capture points and my guess would be that going after their lord early meant your team was unable to defend what you held. The narrator says right at the beginning of the match, “Hold onto your points! Capture theirs!”

I’m sorry that is an over simplification and insensitive to the OP’s post. I’d even go so far as to say its a hypocritical statement given your pip farm in Stronghold for a couple days.
A good game is a good game, Leagues is Leagues, and they don’t sync together at all.
The Warrior turns to the guardian and says, “Did you hear something?”
Guardian replies, “No, but how’d the elementalist die?”

People are acting like they shouldn’t lose a pip even though they lost. That is the sign of a good system. This time around people climbed to easily. If you don’t know that you shouldn’t go lord before 350, you probably shouldn’t be above ruby even. The OP’s team probably figured out that they couldn’t get to 500 and triple capped.
extra dodges, real stability, mobility skills,
burst skills, sustain, or good support. GG ANET.

Not insensitive to bring up that personal score doesn’t influence PIPs. It just doesn’t have anything to do with it.

Unless they had 3 more points -.-
Yeah you lost a pip for losing. The system MUST BE FLAWED. And yeah, personal score has nothing to do with pips. Hell, it has nothing to do with skill and should be removed from pvp.
This is what games should look like! Not like the current kitten where you either win or lose 500 to 100… This new system is so much worst then what we had before.
What a shame, really…

That’s ok I’ll help you out. He said “it was a close game. 3 point loss. Yet lost a pip”. Pip… singular. I think you misread it and thought he lost 3 pips. Yw.
That’s ok I’ll help you out. Yw.
Awesome, I really get a sense of the ‘cause I said so’.

Only when it can’t be directly proven.
out of 3 games played won 2 games 500-(150-175) gained 1 pip, lost a match 500-(around 150) all 3 games roughly same score and lost 2 pips. this system doesnt make sense. wouldnt care so much if this kitten was consistent but anet doesnt know what they are doing. but hey #espurtz

Not when you’re actually and factually wrong, by claiming something that is not true. OP said “a pip”. You can claim he said something else, of course, but his original post is still there to prove you wrong. But hey, reading comprehension is a skill not everyone posesses, right?
