I think most players agree that gw1 had better game play than spvp does now. Lets look at some of the successes of gw1 pvp. Why was this game more playable?

1.) Fixed Teams From Start to Finish:

Nothing kills competitive spirit like seeing people come and go out of a match as they please. Switching teams mid-fight doesn’t help this spirit either.

2.) A Variety of Different Arenas:

Random arena- Great for casual players that are getting a feel for the game, hardcore that want to hone their skill or for theory crafting.

Team arena- Forces players to cooperate into an organized team build on a small scale.

Heroes Ascent- Fantastic tournament system that allowed players to climb their way up to higher levels. Casual players could experience success on lower maps while hardcore players could compete to hold the Hall of Heroes, broadcasting their accomplishment to the entire game.

Hero Battles- 1v1 game play with separate rating system.

GvG- This was your e-sport level pvp gameplay…

3.) A Variety of Different Objectives:

Annihilation- please do this… I want support builds to be viable in spvp
Capture points- fun idea, but spvp players are all sick of this at the moment.
Kill count- allows for respawns and epic comebacks
Capturing the flag stand- most of us ignored it in gw1…but it’s a fun dynamic change.
Altar control- strategy is fun
Relic running- strategy is fun
2v2 vs 1v1v1 team battles- strategy is fun
Kill the Guild Lord!

4.) Unique title tracks: Gamers game, in part, for a sense of accomplishment. GW1 had a system of unique title tracks that players could use to show off their specific experiences.

5.) Build flexibility: I liked build wars.. but opinions will vary on this.

6.) Separate towns for each type of game play with in-game group finding systems.

Didn’t have a chance to play gw1 unfortunately, but of course all of this looks like a lot of fun and I’d really enjoy these features if implemented in gw2 too.
Problem is, it would probably require a lot of work and resources because you can’t just ctrl-c ctrl-v all the code from one game to another.

Yeah it was pretty nice. Honestly…the only reason I’m not playing that game right now instead is because nobody else is.

Sounds like they have a lot of work to do :-p I don’t expect speed…but I definitely hope improving spvp is truly a top priority. PvE was fun, but this kind of pvp is what gives games like this longevity.

agreed and i don’t think spvp will ever get as fun as gw1 pvp mode. We need a completely new pvp mode! My vote would go to a 8-12v8-12 in an attack/defend kind of game. SO pretty much Fort Aspenwood in gw1.
