This mmr decay rate is a joke....
ANet is going to be getting rid of their current leaderboards for a ladder system.
ANet has also readopted the “when it’s ready” mantra, so you’ll hear more about it at that time.
Norn Guardian – Aurora Lustyr (Lv 80)
Mia A Shadows Glow – Human Thief (Lv 80)
The decay doesn’t reduce your MMR. It only reduces your rank on the leaderboard. As soon as you play one game, your rank on the leaderboard will be updated to reflect your MMR again.
In short, no, you don’t get into elo hell for not playing. Your MMR stays the same. If it’s still hard to understand, here is an example:
You’re rank 10
You didn’t play for a week, and get to rank 999
You play one game, and win
You’re rank 10 again.
Already quit PvP. Just log in here and there to troll.
Actually the easiest way to climb high on the leaderboards is to only play a game every few days ^^
Its gotten to the point where if i don’t play for a few days I’m literally back in elo hell. Am I the only thinking that this is marginalizing the good players with less time to play?
Every time I log in now I have to claw my way out of the horrible play of elo hell, where players literally do not comprehend the simplest of gameplay tactics.
At every patch I feel like the veteran, skilled, unattached player is being marginalize. Either have a team and enjoy spvp or not.
MMR doesnt decay, only your actual rating. So even if you quit for a month it doesnt matter. Once you come back you should be matched with the same ppl as before.
Anets MMR system is flawed tho which might give you the impression that you MMR is decaying since the opponents and teammates seem to get worse.
- It launches new players that played 5-20 games in to the top 100 after a handful of wins.
- It searches amongst available people only (instead of letting higher rated ppl wait for proper matchup). So groups end up being a mix of very low and high rated in most cases.

Was there a time when this wasn’t the mantra? It feels like it’s not only the mantra, but devs are required to get it tattooed on their stomachs.
