It is clear that anet is realizing that passive play is cancerous and proc damage is too random to promote actual skillful play. The fact that a lot of pulsing stab has been removed and the fact that adrenal health AND endure pain were nerfed SHOWS that anet wants this game to go on for a long time. The sigils in this patch are so creatively designed that you have to cleverly choose which sigils to use based on your build AND your playstyle, instead of going double doom/geomancy and double air/fire or air/blood, you have to now know what you’ll most likely be doing and choose the sigil based on that. As an ele, you can’t hug another player indefinitely and heal through everything. Anet is promoting actually PLAYING the game now.

I like the changes because they decreased some of the burst while also reducing automatic sustain. Now it takes more effort to spike and more effort to sustain which makes the game more interesting.

There are also more options for counter play with the pulsing stability change (which I would like to see extended to resistance as well). Overall, the patch was a good first (not only) step towards balanced gameplay.

People need to stop expecting 100% balance in a single patch. Nothing is ever perfect and there were a lot of positive changes this round.

yeah def one of the best builds. A lot of balance still not addressed but this is a great start. Some traits which are essentially requirements to even have the class function like Thief’s Trickery line and 1 in Deadly Arts line (Mug/Sleight of Hand/Thrill of Crime/Bountiful Theft) and Necormancer’s Soul Reaping line (Vital Persistence) need to be fixed up to make the always take traits simply baseline to allow more diversity OR removed which im both ok with. Im sure there are others im forgetting at the moment but I think the point was made XD.

People need to stop assuming conditions are easy to apply. Skull grinder still needs to hit to apply conditions for example.

Dodge, block, and blind will mitigate condition application.

Condis are easy to apply, Mace is a melee weapon… of course anything that you have to get near to hit some one is gonna be hard to hit.

They are no easier to apply than power damage. You still have to land skills, just like power builds.

Besides who is going to be running condi next season? Rev and maybe Mesmer?

Yes they are.. on every range weapon that is a huge base of where condi applications come from.

if you’re trying to hit people with condis from melee weapons.. than yeah. Meleeing in general is hard when you got people kiting you and letting the condis kill you

A few nerfs feel overshooting (why nerfs CD of gale song that was barely used?) and i donĀ“t know if revenant got overbuffed. Globally its a good one. What i always hate if non meta is hit and diversity reduced. While some damage sigils on top builds added to much, some nice builds needed them to work. I will miss blood sigil and often used leeching :-).

1) Half of the viable condi builds are melee. (Warr, guardian, Rev)
2) Ranged weapons still have tells. Mesmer shatters are obvious, P/P engi has a obvious tell on #2 and you can look for the incendiary ammo activation, Necro has to melee for shroud condi burst.

Also condi builds (with the exception of Mesmer) are across the board squishier than their power versions.

For those who are concerned about condi builds, you seem to only be looking at it with tunnel vision. Let’s look at some facts here. The condi builds that are currently meta (war, mes, rev) are focused on condi spam, meaning that they do the most damage on targets who are stunned or immobilized (something not necessarily true for damage builds). This means that to maximize damage and to overcome your target’s cleanses, you have to stall them long enough to land your conditions. You have to not only hit them, you have to count their cleanses aswell. With rev and war, this is especially hard because you have to catch up with your opponent which is considerably hard seeing as the mallyx/glint build and the war build has no blinks and few (if none at all) movement skills (i.e. dash or whirlwind attack). When looking at mes, you realize that the meta condi build requires more skill than mes has ever had. All because it is a condition build, that doesn’t mean it’s easier to be successful with.
