Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]

Overall, I feel the changes were all sensible.
The d/d ele nerfs didn’t destroy d/d ele, it was mostly an overall damage reduction (with a blinding ashes nerf on the side), still has the same team support with less damage and slightly lower survivability in the fire line.
Mesmer portal indicator makes me unbelievably happy. PU duration nerf was also perfectly reasonable, it’s still a longer duration than before the June 23 Patch.
The various buffs to underused weapons/builds are also very much appreciated. None of them were ridiculous, more just making them more viable.
Also, ice bow 50% nerf LOL.

I agree, everything seems really sensible. It’s also coming next week !
I’m happy they announce balance change and we don’t have to wait long before they’re ingame. I rather have this than nerfs being told 2 months before they’re applied.
Kind of sad thief is still kitten tier in terms of combat.

Makes up for it in other aspects though, there’s a reason why you still see a thief on every top team.
what they revealed does nothing for the ele. Its just a minimal dmg reduction and same sustain. You cant beat it 1v1 or 2v1, same mobility, excellent dmg (add all nerfs together they add up to maybe 5-6 secs longer to kill), every 2v2 where 1 side has ele and other doesnt is 100% decided. At best 4 ele + 1 thief is no longer that strong. 1 ele is mandatory, 2 ele is optimal, 3 ele is still amazing. Number of eles is still no 1. deciding factor of 95% of the matches. d/d ele stil hard counters every other build.
But im a optimist, there is more in the actual patch, they just only talked about the fire line. There has to be, otherwise its the same ele meta until 1st season of leagues is over. i would kill myself (ig that is, i would stop playing pvp for good).

4 ele + 1 thief was never viable. The only reason why it even worked vs some EU teams is because no decent necros exist in EU. 4 ele 1 thief (or even 3 ele) was never a thing on NA because necro is everywhere in the NA esl scene.
i meant that sarcasticly. I know it wasnt ideal spec (but it was a strong spec). Point is ele remains the same – just a minimal dmg reduction, they even buffed RoF, that guaranteed burn is very strong, in most cases you wouldnt have walked over it 2-3 times (outside of bugs) anyway. Not even double-stacking eles will go away and you will never see a team without eles. On the pug side its even worse, just as before its all about who is more lucky with matching system and rolls eles on their team.
But then again as i said i really think there are real fixes in the actual patch, they just only talked about fire.
And ice-bow nerf is very much appreciated, but i would have prefered a bigger nerf, havent done the math but it should still be absolutely highest damaging skill in the game by a decent margin (with line casting or against large hitbox).

So what’s the plan, waiting for ShorBow #5 nerf and the Reveal rain skills in HoT and we can finally start to redesign thief?

No idea, I don’t play thief, ask a thief who plays in a top team.

I know already the answer.
BTW the best news is the balance patch frequency decreased to 2 months every PVP Season.
I think the Balance patch – 2 weeks testing – PvP Season is a good frequence

I don’t think the ele nerf was nearly sufficient. damage nerf was…significant, but the dps is still over the top given how tanky it still is. d/d cele must be a bunker spec if anything, not a jack of all trades.
the ranger changes are pretty intense
Currently debating whether I should get a HoT refund rather than reroll another class. Thief main since launch. Power creep among other classes and near constant nerfs to thief defensive and offensive abilities have left the class wanting.

Well you also gotta remember that with a large balance patch like this, there’s usually some follow-up (like the 2 mesmer nerfs that came within a few days of the June 23 patch), so we can’t really come to final conclusions yet.
