Hello. I have recently starting doing the pvp part of this game. I’m playing an ele and seem to be doing ok with the killing and staying alive aspect but I’m having trouble with keeping and sometimes acquiring the target when fighting mesmers, necros, and thieves. I understand lots of minions, clones, and stealth are part of their defense, but what are some tips and tricks yall use to acquire and keep the target of the person you want to kill?

If you’re in a party, call target to the real mesmer. I can’t understand why necros or thieves would be a problem though.

hitting “T” will put an arrow over the head of the real mesmer, the tab targetting rely blows in this game unfortunately. I’ll use it in 1v1’s against non-mesmers, but in situations where you need to focus something over another thing, calling targets is the only way to go (unfortunately if your team members call different targets yours gets dropped.) WTB focus targeting (or at least a way to mark targets for self in addition to team).

Thanks for the suggestions. In a group fight is when I have the most trouble. In 1v1 it’s easy enough to just use tab to get the right target in enough time. I have just been doing solo queues so far so I don’t have a group to call out targets. I guess finding a group should be my next step.

When I mark the mesmer or thief, when they invis or create a clone, will they remain marked?

Oh one more question. Sometimes when fighting say a mesmer, i never lose the rigth target the entire fight. While other times it seems like I’m constantly losing my target and trying to find it again. Are there certain moves, such as stealth, that force a target drop?

Yes, stealth will drop a target. Clones won’t, but clones+stealth will (and there is a move that does this). You’ll have to re-apply your target after they come out of stealth (which is why most people won’t bother targeting a thief But definitely target the mesmer if you can).
