Basically all skills that reapply burning regularly will need to be nerfed significantly before burning stacking is in place.
Need to get out ahead of this, because we all know they only balance every 12 months. So need to make sure any obvious balance problems dont make it into the game.

-A single burn stack will do like, 150 damage. maybe 250 on cele.

Turns out they didnt follow my advice and so ele is easy mode again hehe
i just wanted to mention this. as expected they didn’t and now every ele (me included) is running burning stack condi burst. and everything melts except for other eles and medguards. hilarious.
None of the skills you asked to prematurely nerf turned out to be problematic…
Instead, the main burn stack offenders turned out to be things not in your list:
(1) Whirl finishers + fire fields = instamelt
(2) Engie incendiary ammo + kinetic battery
(3) Blowtorch
(4) Zealot’s flame + Radiant Fire
Other than the burn damage that I couldn’t possibly have known 12 days ago, my original post still stands. Those items are still avoidable and it’s not what makes Ele OP.
The burn ratio they did throughout the classes are actually on queue. It’s synchronized burn stacking between all the classes together, that makes burns OP in general. Even then, burns being OP is arguable. There aren’t any synchronized cleansing teams, like shout guards or warriors, to know if burning is balanced or unbalanced in competitive play.
Tips on how to balance burning?
A… bucket of water.
you can just move out of ground targeted burns. they don’t need nerfs. ele’s fire combo – yes. it’s totally insane with condi stats.
How about instead of nerfing things they instead give every class varying levels of access to the new resistance boon.
As is only the mesmer & warrior get any real access to it.
And I can attest to how useful it is on my warrior.
I can mostly agree with Drake’s breath due to it’s incredibly low cd, not so much the rest.
Eh buringing isn’t to bad you have necros and diamond skin ele that can totally shut down condi builds. Other classes have stealth, ports and invulnerable skills that can deal with all types of dmg. Raw dps is far superior to burning/condi dmg.
I think just lowering the base dmg of burning just by a little would be enough. Alternatively you could have a cap on the stacks of burning.
- Power coefficients need to be adjusted for skills across the board so that physical burst combos used by Berserker builds cannot “one-shot” (let’s define this as “down within 1 second”) other builds that aren’t also Berserker builds. “Insta-gibbing” should always require a coordinated effort by at least 2 players.
- Conditions need to cap per source (read: the player applying them): 5 stacks for burning, 10 stacks for poison, 15 stacks for confusion, 20 stacks for torment, and 25 stacks for bleeding.
- Poison is not dynamic enough for the new way damaging conditions work! Each stack should reduce heal potency by 3% (capping at 100%), and application via skills should be adjusted accordingly as well as that of Superior Sigil of Doom (read: 10 stacks for 5 seconds). Its damage should also be adjusted accordingly.
This is my suggested fix for damage across the game (relative to burning in bold).
