Can we please stop creating incentives for players to take actions in PvP other than doing their best to win the match? I’m all for giving new players a reason to play PvP and get some loot for doing it – but if we’re gonna bring in new players, let’s train them right from the beginning. If whatever you are doing results in a win, it’s a behavior we want to encourage. If it results in a loss, no cookie for you. This is how you create solid players.

All of the achievements tied to secondary objectives require winning the match as well. So if you kill the enemy lord but lose because it was a bad play, you won’t get progress for that achievement.

I can only speculate it’s to incentivize players to keep playing for now, because it’s off-season now and we didn’t get any balance patches; with new LS out, they want to keep PvP population up. A sad attempt really.

I ’m fairly certain it has more to do with people continuously asking for new sources of AP

This seems like the problem that plagued this past season. Simply giving participation rewards and as long as you manage the few mouse clicks and then pressing a button you will eventually get what you want. While at the same time ruining the experience for your team. I will not lie, I was happy when i saw an afk on the other team but at the same time it sucks when it happens to your team. The whole system needs to be rewarding for winning not queueing and then afking after your team loses the mid battle. There have been countless matches that my team lost mid at start and still won so that in my opinion is simply unacceptable. I understand the participation based rewards to get more people to experiment with pvp but sadly its not working. There needs to be some sort of punishment system in place for people that do not truly participate. It cannot be a player based voting system since that will get abused, dont like player spam vote on him regardless if hes trying. While I cant offer a suggestion but that is my experience and people who do not put in the effort need to be punished.

Now that i had a think, the spam based style is friendly to almost anyone. But, the get out of jail free skills need longer CDs. It should not be about who presses button x faster but who uses button x more wisely. While this would go against all the fundamentals, there is as advertised a team working on pvp. The game mode is already separate so it could be possible to make skills adaptable and possibly balanced to the game type. Every class has its advantages and disadvantages but for sPvP they should not be so blurred. Every class should have its pros and cons but not be a master of all trades. Simply put, you should either be a glass cannon or a tank not both. That goes back to the get out of jail free skills. That is something that needs to be looked at. Currently there are counters to everything but that is based on having the correct meta build and the rest of your team playing meta builds. That goes against the casual basis of the game since it eliminates any sort of build deversity. All it takes currently is looking at the classes that you are against and you know their build. That should not be the case, looking at classes should make you wonder what they are running.

Aside from that, it seems that “skilled” players are those who agree with the particular poster.

GW2 pvp needs to be more elitist, tbh. And s5 was a step in a great direction for that. Having a strong competitive scene in pvp only makes a game stronger. That goes for all aspects of the game.

i agree the skilled players arent skilled. its definetelly the players who dont win games that are skilled its most def the bronze players that are actually more skilled than the likes of toker, nos, helseth, olrun etc.

It is clearly all these sheep that follow these players when they say they are good i mean did you see how bad helseth does in world tourneys… i mean cmon the guy is constantly 1v2ing and winning… like why would he do that he should definetely be guarding empty point instead.

Casuals are infinitely more profitable and reliable than the competitive players who claim to be loyal but actually swap games just as much and are a much smaller population.

Wildstar died because of the elitist mentality.

This doesn’t make a lot of sense. This incentivizes strange and counter-intuitive behavior like trying to push lord when you’re at 450 points or something and should really be watching your points tick up. It would also be much better if it didn’t require winning because then it allows you to make progress on some of your achievements even if you can’t pull out a victory. Think of it this way: if we’re 300 points behind and assured a loss, would you rather your team AFK and await the loss or maybe rally and push for lord to get some silly achievement credit? I’d take the latter every time, personally. It’s unranked anyway.

Plus he is being misleading about the type of elitism that killed Wildstar. Wildstar pvp catered to equipment grinding over skill. Thats what killed it the people with the top gear in pvp won regardless of skill.
