To all those talking about meta
we don´t need a META
We need teams with different strategies for example bunker and decapping vs teamfight comps, direct vs condi vs mixed etc
Problem is, that some classes are so overpowered that you build a whole team around them and this is what creates a meta.
Classes that are nearly unbeatable in 1v1 pushing sidepoints, Guardians overpowered for one year now, but aslong as it doesn´t hurt noone cares. Certain classes doing way too much pressure and revives without touching the downed guy. This is not healthy for the game.
It´s those overpowered things you build around and that is creating a meta.
We need more build diversity, but we don´t need ONE meta. It´s not fun to play nor to watch if everyone is following the same strategy because nothing else is on par.
No balanced game should have classes that are a must have to compete as a team.
I don´t even remember the last time I´ve seen a team without guardian.
Agreed. I think every class should be nerfed in some respects. But it won’t happen.
And yeh bunker guardian is very very very OP. Like, fighting a 4v4 when they have their guardian and you dont have yours = massive disadvantage. Everyone but arena net seem to understand this.
nerfing the guardian bunker wouldnt matter because ALL other classes would be getting nerfs too. It would just bring all the OP specs down. And bunker guardian is one of the most Op specs. If you dont think so then try playing and winning without one.
Necromancer/Casual Warrior
[Team] Best WvW guild of all time. EASILY.
Eh, if I remember correctly, the meta in GW1 was a balanced team. However, not everyone ran a balanced team and there was a ton of success. Spike teams, pressure teams, (hexway), or troll teams (lichway, anyone?). Either way there will always be a meta, doesn’t mean you have to use it to be successful.

The reason why it was like that in GW1 is because you needed a pretty high level of skill to have an unbeatable “bala” team so at most you had only 1-2 high tier guilds able to beat anybody with a bala team, other team compositions were able to beat less skilled bala teams and these non bala teams were unable to win in every situation given their inability to adapt to everything like a great bala team could.
We had a range of different game types that would create different situations but in GW2 you have a single game mode and a meta team composition that require pretty much no skill at all to run while at the same time requiring a skilled team composition to counter…a recipe for disaster, GW2 will never get close to GW1 in terms of balance and fun if things are left like this

Given that the game is well balanced.
ps. poster above me, I love your signature.
Agree with all, but the fact that teams build comps around classes in the actual meta. And that’s exactly the problem in this game. Classes/speccs are too independent from each other. Best example of this is the spirit ranger, warriors or necro. They don’t rely on each other. In the burst meta the comp actually was built around certain classes (moa-spike was a good example of it). This provided some great team-synergy, which is nowadays inexistent. The result of this is that the allrdy small skill-floor in this game went to zero.
I just found a non meta build that I thought was bad that’s actually pretty good so.. GG meta gg.
