Too many non-player targets
They are pet classes, that is a valid tactic, the tactic of using pets as meat-shields goes back generations in MMOs.
The entire point of pets is to cause confusion and be meat shields. The majority of pets do little or no damage and take up a utility slot (for necros).
Let’s put it this way… would you rather deal with a pet that deals little damage and has little utility or having the necro put down well of suffering/corruption. Or maybe you’d prefer that he use plague signet send all of the conditions you inflicted on him back onto you.
You should be thankful that people are using subpar skills (pets) against you. The moment they slot in a real skill, you’ll be back on here complaining about how OP they are.
Edit: I just want to point out that aoes/piercing attacks completely destroy any pet build since you can put all of the pet skills on cooldown at the same time.

A ranger would probably laugh at this. Tomorrow their pets get even more sustain

like BM rangers are weak now they will be new top tier tomorrow

Did you read what I said? Using pets as meat-shields hasn’t gone back generations in MMOs because as far as I know guild wars 2 and tera are the only ones that have the type of combat where you hit what your sword touches etc.
Other MMOs such as WoW you hit what you target and you can’t miss/ wont swing if you are facing the wrong way. You only have to be in range. Your sword actually most of the time is swinging far away and your still hitting.
I hope you can understand
If this is hotjoin, nothing much you can do cause it’s a zergfest. But if you are talking about spvp. Just don’t go to places where the almost the entire team is camping. If you split 2 2 and 1 in the enemy hotspot. 1 can bunker while the 2 pairs wreck the other teams. It only gets super confusing when you have more than 8 things to keep up with.

I find the real problem with this is the fact that when u are in a fight among alot of pets , i almost always lose target due to looking around with right mouse button. And it can be incredibly hard too stay alive while trying to reconnect to your target.

I understand what you’re saying but that is what makes GW2 unique. I like the fact that things are considered projectiles and they can be intercepted by other players or pets instead of their intended target.
And the builds that you mentioned are tanky builds that hold points. They achieve survivability through using pets as meatshields, but they also sacrifice damage.
With that said, my screen does get cluttered with pets at times. Sometimes I wish they would do away with some of the random pets like rock dogs.
I agree with this when you face a pet class ie mesmer necro it’s the targeting system that kills you not the player. I don’t see anything changing about this though a post on redit said pet classes are all getting a buff.
I didn’t include rangers in there because in downed state a rangers pet must be killed. If you are spirit spec though I could see the same issue… its also getting a buff.

The physics in this game does add a new layer to it, but it existed as far back as DAoC. Camping in shroom patches on a lurikeen.

Good times ^^

Yea right clic to move your camera, target the pet/clone/minion/wathever instead.
Try to select the ranger stomping your teammate to interrupt him, get your target on the little bird behind him instead, even though the ranger is actually a 2m² Norn.
But no worries, they are giving even more health to pets.
…
Wait what ?
Randomly joined a tournament once as a mesmer.
Ended up in a team with 3 mesmers (including me) and a minion master necro. I was counting 13 AI controlled entities in our team with 5 players.
Targeting was probably a pain for our enemies.
Best part:
One of the mesmers names was ‘Happy Clone Wars’ xD
One of the barriers that will always keep this from truly ever becoming the best pvp game it ever can IN MY OPINION, is artificial intelligence and passive damage. I believe a game like this suffers from having conditions like confusion and retaliation. Mesmers are the worst offenders and don’t even belong in this game in my opinion, it just holds your hand and the game plays for you. It’s one thing if it truly was a game of deception, and finding the real one was the true task. As it stands though you spend 90% of the time fighting off clones and phantasms just to get to the Mesmer. It’s one thing if all classes functioned like this, but I use 3 kits on my engineer ill never accept that.

already lubed up and ready :x
Yeah that’s the point in mm necro’s, with a Mesmer and a ranger, to make it hard for you to target them.
Also I’ve notice this a lot on my thief is when you have ranger targeted, you have basilik venom up, the ranger pet is next to the ranger, you try to attack the ranger but he moves and gets out of your range so you wasted your basilik venom on the pet instead of the ranger.
I must say I agree.
Past nerfs and recent buffs have proven AI is difficult to balance in PvP.
It’s not fun to play if you have no control (ex. Minions), but it’s too intensive for new players to give more control (Anet has stated in the last SOTG).
To make a list:
Ranger pets – RNG secondary skills, greatest source of Ranger damage, made tankier next patch.
Engineer turrets – get focused because players have brains, but PVE mobs don’t.
Warrior banners – can’t be destroyed, no counters / passive playstyle.
Necro minions – AI is unreliable, weak active skills, low hp, players will aoe or focus player.
Ele ults – reliable source of boons & damage, but low interaction.
Thief thieves guild – instant activation, long cd, gimmick trap.
Guardian spirit weapons – easily kited, RNG, nerfed in past patch.
I’d say the only class which has an effective playstyle related to non-player summons is Mesmer, even though I don’t like playing it myself.
Top 100 Solo Q for a full minute
I’ve been saying this from day one. But I guess someone at arena net really likes the clutter. There really is no need for the rock dog that pet just contributes to more clutter on the screen.

I must correct the thieves guild statement, it has a rather long cast time actually.
