Totally new to PvP. Advice?
delicate, brick-like subtlety.
i would really recommend instant ground targeting and not using double tap to evade, otherwise play the game and learn and get better.
as for ranger ask like genyen/tany/kizos for a build or somthing (NA) Battosai if he still plays if you’re EU
- Don’t stand on a point that is already being capped by a teammate!
- Don’t participate in fights in which the outcome is already clear.
Watch youtube videos on ranger spvp play. I think all ranked games help you earn rewards, and to 1v1 a friend find an empty server and both of you join it. There is no formal dueling system other than one of you going red and the other blue.
If you play a ranger that you think is really good, go into spectate mode (press B then the yellow spectate button near top right of dialog) and then you can spectate that ranger and view their build/gear choices (little icon next to their name).
If you’ve read the sticky you are well on your way to learning how pvp works. One suggestion which isn’t mentioned often (no clue why) is just ask in hotm map chat “New player here, can x-profession help me start out?”
Any person who has ever typed this alone in map chat I will spend at least a dedicated amount of 30mins minimum to 1 hour just explaining certain situations/general pvp knowledge and giving optimal meta builds that are being used in order for our dying* pvp community to grow.
The only problem is that depending on the time, hotm can become a cesspool of trolls that will just type nonsense in map chat, but if anyone that wants to help is on I would assume they can help you better and show you skill rotations on golems.
- Capping points doesn’t go faster with multiple people, so avoid capping empty points with other teammates.
- Learn what other classes can do, that it will not take you by surprise. This can be done best by playing with them yourself.
- Choose wisely when to finish an opponent, when to leave him in downstate (at hotjoin just finish as fast as you can, but at solo or team queue there are time that leaving him in downstate is more useful).
- Google best builds for ranger, do not know if this patch changed anything, but previously it was spirit ranger. If you want to play as you like test different builds, but do not be surprised if they are less viable option and other ranger can just #111111 you down.
- Communicate in solo / team q tell people what you are best at doing, for example bunkering close, how many people are incoming to close, etc.
- If you are outnumbering enemy team at a fight, and it is already won don’t stand at that side of map for long, there is a great chance that your team is being outnumbered on some other point.
- Don’t expect to be good at first, it takes time to learn pvp, not like bashing mobs to level up in pve.
