I think a lot of people need a little more time for sign-ups. People are shocked at how quickly signups are happening, I would at least expect them to open up on the Monday following TOL2’s finals, as I’m sure there will be quite a few teams changing rosters after.

At least give us the changes for necros and guardians in text form if you can’t give us the video sooner, in addition to delaying sign ups.

If you do signups before the balance change atleast tell people what you are changing
or teams will have an incredible hard time adjusting their rosters after the patch, probably leeding to out of flavor classes to be left out in the initial wave of signups and possibly makign them unable to play in the tournament as teams won’t ake the risk of adding them to their roster without realy knowign anythign about planned changes.

This, some teams still in ToL will be changing there rosters, but atm, that has to be done before the tournament is even over… Doesn’t make sense. Great for team morale. Not only that, but we haven’t even seen the Skill Bar for half of the professions, we have no way of judging if necro, ele, guard, or mesmer, will be OP or even good.

I’d say this needs to at least be after the last preview. You’re essentially asking teams to figure out their roster when there is a known large patch coming, only they don’t even know what all the patch will change, and also there are the ToL teams who might want to mix up their roster, but can’t possibly do that right now.

Personally, I would say put it on the friday after the patch goes live (September 12th), this allows teams to see all of the changes, not just the previewed ones, it gives ToL teams a bit of time to change rosters, and it gives everyone a few days to play on the patch so they have some idea of the tournament environment they are going to play in.

+2 for text changes for guard and necro, already from me and another from the thread that announced mesmer and ele this week

basicaly all concerns with Mistpedia running ToL where a lack of transparency, which they promised to change. so be nice to them, yes things didnt go perfectly but thats in the past now and lets just move on.

Not that I would play in these things as a casual player. But this is exactly what is happening. We need to know if necro can play the role of a sustain class or if it is still going to be a sub-par roamer. If it can play a sustain role then it might see its way into many teams as either this role of the role of a roamer. If nothing really changes then most teams will not use necromancers unless they have a very good one available who only really plays necro.

Just saying someone from Anet should look at it before continuing. I think the whole system they used is a joke along with the weekly tournaments they run. There are some Integrity issues over at Mistpedia, not sure who it is or it could have just been common human error. I recommend checking out the other posts involving the concerns of the current tournament that has taken way to long in the first place. But to not derail the current post here. There are many concerns about pushing ahead with another tournament before the current one is over.

MP’s fine, the paranoia hype train is just getting too real lately. I do agree that it would be nice if signups happened a week or so after ToL2 ends, though.

Correct me if Im wrong but I seem to remember Tol 2 sign up being BEFORE april 15th patch which caused my current team to be unable to sign up in time.

You should stop the habit of tournies sign ups before patches, and do not repeat pax.

get the patch out first or the notes for it THEN allow sign ups.

Thanks for the comments. These events are a community endeavor, and I will always try to make changes that will make these tournaments a better experience for everyone. I understand where a lot of you are coming from in terms of sign-up timing, especially for those of you that haven’t had an opportunity to see how their profession would change in the coming weeks with the balance patch.

Because of the World Tournament Series event in Beijing, and everything that goes into making that a reality, we’re running on a very tight schedule. The first weekend of qualifiers is scheduled for just after the feature pack – September 13th and 14th. Starting any later than that begins to put our event at risk, as we’re already pushing the comfort zone.

I’m willing to entertain ideas/suggestions for the sign-ups and timing, but we can’t delay the first qualifier.

I guess the working man will have to miss out on a tournament again. thanks!

Reason being that I only see half my team on Saturday and Sundays. More of an excuse really! lol

That being said I just won’t have the time to put together my full 5 man. School starts the same time here and work is crazy the first two weeks of school with 40+ over Ot each week.

would be great to see more new teams and for NA teams to win against some of the giants from EU!

Would it be possible to release a text-based overview of what you would have done in the Necro/Guard previews on friday alongside the Ele/Mes changes? This would allow you guys to basically keep the same schedule for everything that is already going on, but also allow teams to have equal information for every profession.

This is awful. You have the supposedly top 8 teams in NA and EU still competing in their respective Tournament of Legends which stands to reason they will all be competitors for the Tournament of Glory as well as the World Tournament Series. However, you have sign ups for Tournament of Glory BEFORE these teams are even done competing in Tournament of Legends making the conversation of roster changes extremely awkward and rushed, “Hey, so ya… we need to practice with X… because even though we play on Sunday… well… we sign up for the next tournament before then… and… well… we don’t want you anymore… but please put your heart into ToL for us!”.

Not only that, we have 0 information to reliably judge what sort of a comp we want. For example, this balance patch is HUGE for my team as it stands. You are buffing my build, you are nerfing the only thing that I can’t kill 1 v 1 (a war) which means I’m going to be pretty kittening OP. However, we have no idea what is happening to necro, mesmer, ele, or guard all of which have the possibility of becoming OP with the slightest changes which would force us to consider doing things like replacing our thief, etc.

The worst part, by far. Is that there is no information about World Tournament Series or Tournament of Glory. I assume Tournament of Glory will span over the course of a month and then World Tournament Series qualifiers will be similar (but smaller) after that. Yet, here you say qualifiers for the World Tournament Series begins September 13th and 14th… do you mean since whoever wins ToG qualifies to be in the qualifier for WTS? or that this is actually a date for a WTS… then what’s going on with ToG.

Don’t get me wrong, the Esports is cool in all, but… seriously. This is not the most elegant procedure.

This is probably the best method, as it also allows necros and guardians to give some feedback with at least some time before the patch. The other option is having sign-ups close post-patch, which may drive more uncertianty with the t ourney as a whole.

I think shoehorning in the necro/guard changes to this weeks ready up would be the most appropiate solution and would calm alot of the disquiet.

What if the balance patch includes a nerf to bunker guardian making it no longer viable? Many people ONLY run bunker guard and this could make a lot of things awkward.

What if necro gets nerfed so it no longer fills the role of roamer? What if its sustain is buffed so it fills the role of 1v1 and 1v2 on a point? I think all this is solved by getting the balance changes for guard and necro out this week

Exactly, the developers reading this thread and others should now be aware of what a problem this is, so while acknowledging it is a great first step, now its time to DO something about it!

Eura already said what I want to… our entire team hinges on our necro atm, we need to know what the upcoming changes are going to be before this tournament starts. not 3-4 days but before sign-ups.

Also its a shame more teams get screwed by a new patch date. Like it seems every decent tournament you do a huge balance patch hits, delays, screws with it. Like you had over 5 months of no balance changes, make a huge tournament…. o wait big balance patch.

So many mistakes….

TLDR: new teams forming due to patch cannot compete due to schedule, and current teams get luck of the draw with guardian, necro changes not being announced yet.

As other posters noticed, we need them to build our teams. Holding this info back has negative impact on a large group of competitive players.

I’d like to see if the community is really where commitment lies within ArenaNet. Understandably this needs to be done quickly, so other things need to be pushed forward as well, so that we as players can maintain the same momentum as those at ArenaNet.

Could we please get the skillbar for the necromancer and the guardian this friday to give a proper preparation? Even if just as text form? Even bullet points without reasoning would work for this.

Why must we elongate everything in gw2. If the balances previews for the classes are up and youve made short clips, why not show them in bigger groups instead of just showing 2. Also ToG ends in October? So we are going to have a ToL2 Repeat yet again? Why must these tournies take so long.

They split them up in groups of 2 in order to more efficiently intake the disussion of those professions. Which makes sense. Doing 2 professions every 2 weeks instead of 8 all at once. As for the size of the tourney, I think the way ToL is going is fine… for the most part. Ideally there should be a qualifier every weekend with no breaks like there was this time between the 1st and 2nd qualifier and the last qualifier in the finals. That would speed it up a bit, but doing it all at once would be kind of crazy.

The next Ready Up after tomorrow’s will actually be next week – we’re going two weeks back to back. This will give you ample time to sign-up ahead of time and request a roster change if you feel that it is necessary.

These videos each take ~3 hours to film and another 8+ hours to edit. On some weeks, the video wasn’t even exported until the same morning we showed it on the stream.

We opted to do two at a time so as not to overload both you and Karl in the preview. If you look back to when we did previews live, one of those episodes was almost 2 hours long, and by the end they were trying to speed through in order to keep it from going longer. Both you and we didn’t think it was fair to the people who play those professions that were rushed through, nor was it fair to have to sit through two hours of a stream to see your profession’s changes. We feel that this format provided a better means of communicating these changes. We can now devote the appropriate amount of time to each profession and showcase the changes without having to wait for Karl to change builds and move between locations on the map.

11 hours. That’s insane for a 5 minute clip.

Don’t get me wrong, I do like the Skill Bar segments. But most of the abilities that are changed don’t require to be shown on camera. I’d be perfectly content with a detailed text write (explaining why you made the changes) up on the Profession Balance forums, instead of having a 3rd party source make one for us.

I think it may be better too to have discussions about all profession changes at the same time, rather than having 3x-ish(?) amount the time to talk about engineers/rangers than we will get about guardians/necromancers.

You could just give a write up of the changes, you have to do it anyway for patch notes and honestly a lot of the changes do not warrant a video. I’d also like to mention that the class balance changes impact ALL of GW2 and not just SPvP. People in PvE and WvW want to hear about the changes too without sitting through a livestream about SPvP or go to a third party website for a synopsis. Post the class changes in the profession forums, then do your skill bar videos explaining the changes as you see fit. I don’t really get how you thought it was unfair to have players watch for 2 hours for their changes and yet having them wait 8 weeks is any better, especially given the ToG predicament.

You should be able to have a captain and 4 starters plus 2 subs. What scene are you? EU or NA?
