FINALLY.

After months of answering the same old questions of “where did you guys go?!”, “Did ya’ll quit doing GW2?”, and “Why did Czech gain so much Christmas weight?”, DPS can officially announce that we are running Tournament of Legends 3. We’d like to first thank Josh Davis and ArenaNet for the opportunity and the incredible support they have given us over the past months as we tore down DPS and rebuilt from the foundation on up. We have also partnered with Storm and the folks over at Academy Gaming, so we’d like to thank them again for joining us on this tremendous endeavor.

You can find most information for ToL3 on our new website at www.digitalprosports.com and in the blog post ArenaNet has released BUT here’s the essential bits of what you need to know for now:

When??
EU=Saturday, May 23rd. NA=Saturday, May 30th

When can I sign up??
Friday, April 24th.

Where can I sign up??
A direct link will be provided here on Friday BUT www.digitalprosports.com will be hosting sign ups.

How many teams??
Bracket is locked at 64 teams apiece. First come, First serve. Teams that don’t make it in time will be put on a waiting list. Teams must have at least 5 members with a sub as optional. You may not be on more then one roster for this event (Period.)

Best of three or best of ones??
Best of Three ALL THE WAY THROUGH til Finals, Best of Five in finals.

Heurix from DPS and Storm from Academy Gaming will be doing play by play.

How will the bracket be seeded??
Once you sign up with your team of 5, you need to play AS A TEAM in the ESL Go4Cups and Academy Gaming weekly events in order to gain seeding points within our system. ESL Go4Cups will obviously award more seeding points then Academy Gaming weeklies. It’s simple math: Play as a team and perform well and you’ll go up in the seeding. Don’t…and you’ll naturally have a lower seed. The bracket will be released the Wednesday before each event. More details will follow.

This is how we will be seeding the Tournament of Legends 3. Keep in mind this is not 100% set in stone, but the general outline has been set.

The following tournaments will give you points based upon your performance in each week beginning on Sunday, April 26th.

ESL Weekly (Sundays on NA & EU)
Academy Gaming Weekly (Mondays on NA & EU)
ESL Monthly (May 6th)

Due to restrictions for who can participate in the Academy Gaming weekly tournament, the ESL Weekly offers a higher amount of points to those that wins a series, ultimately putting them higher in seeding terms than AG Weekly participants.

Teams will gain points with a particular roster so long as they retain 80% (4/5) of their original line-up. If less than 4/5 of the roster plays, the new roster will be added as a separate entity gaining those points, while the original roster will still remain a part of the system. That being said, no team will ever be ‘deleted’ from the ladder in case there were multiple substitutes for a particular week. The roster that is signed up with for the Tournament of Legends will be the one that is seeded.

Note: In effect for only between April 27th to May 25th, the Academy Gaming weekly will not ban the previous week’s winners from participating.

FAQs —-

Q: Is the ESL Monthly worth significantly more than the ESL Weekly?
A: With such a short turnaround from the announcement of the points system and ToL as a whole, many teams didn’t know there was this potential for the ESL Monthly to be such a large part of a points system. Because of this, we have decided to make it worth slightly more, but not enough to where other teams cannot catch up.

Q: If my team participates in the ESL Weekly on a weekly basis but misses one week and still aren’t allowed to do the AG Weekly, will we be compensated for points?
A: Sadly, no. The rosters require 4/5 players to accounted for or the point total will be put onto a new, separate roster. Given how this plays out, we won’t compensate for your points.

Q: Do 9th-16th in both the ESL Weekly and AG Weekly get points?
A: If you lose in the first round, we truly don’t know what you’re made of, but we praise your attempt at participation and will reward you with a better seeding than those who sign up for the Tournament of Legends and do not participate at all.

Q: Are ESL Weeklies worth more points than AG Weeklies?
A: The ESL Weeklies are worth significantly more than the AG Weeklies due to the higher skill level required to perform well.

Q: Why are points hidden?
A: To encourage teams to stick together and not discourage teams from participating that aren’t as high as they would like to be. Do not worry about your points, focus on playing to the best of your ability. If we find that this system is effective, we will release it for the public eye for the future ToL tournaments.

• Players may only play in one Tournament of Legends. Any use of an alternate account to circumvent this rule will result in a ban from future tournaments (from news post)

• You may not be on more then one roster for this event (Period.)

Does this mean I can only play in one ToL ever? Like if i join now in tol3 i cant play in future tol4?

Seraphs of Fortuna [SoF] (tournament history in signature) will be looking for 1 main player and 1 sub for this tournament. While not the best, we have a reputation of doing very well in these tournaments for anyone who wants to compete.

You must be able to practice a lot after finals are over. We’re probably the friendliest people to pvp with on skype/ts and just enjoy playing with friends while still trying to win. We have our own strategies so we’re not looking for shot-callers but rather people willing to learn our style and listen and communicate.

As many of you may know, I am the best multiclass NA. Im currently banned from the game until Saturday, April 25, 2:30 CT, however I will resume playing after that time is expired, as other games have failed to keep my interest. I play every class at top tier level, oftentimes better than people who “main” them cough every Phantaram copy ele cough. I will be looking for a team for this tournament. Due to the lack of competition on NA I believe a strong team with me in it will be able to get second place rather easily, losing only to “The Abjured”.

So because this tournament is not tied to WTS, there is no age restriction. Tell em to sign on up!

And to what date changing the roster is allowed?

I don’t get why it’s not an invite to esl teams then open season for the rest :p

While I will likely not participate due to lack of interest in gathering a team (and fail at the last second again) – I am happy to see it comming back…

ToL, the last 2 times, invited way more people than just your average ESL/Go4 Teams – you saw new comps, different playstyles and generally a lot of people having fun…
Of course, in the end usually the fiercest competitors of the region were left, but at least it was “Casual” enough to be inviting for everyone…

I really hope they will nerf/remove the celestial amulet before the tourney starts. Then I would even try to win it, and the way it is now I have no motivation to even try.

You can’t play in the AG if you place in the top 8 of ESL, assuming there are more than 8 teams in the ESL.

Right now it states anyone who has won an ESL series cannot play in the AG tournament. We are expecting more than 8 teams in all tournaments now that the llama announcement and ToL are released.

Placing in the top 8 in ESL is worth more than 1st in AG, you are correct on that. ESL skill level is significantly higher.

I was undefeated for six months in tournaments on EU with my team but I am not elligible to represent europe for WTS and play with them because of rules, so now I’m attempting to get something going on NA.

I did the majority of theorycraftings in Cheese Mode, I also trained Orange Logo to win the previous WTS. I know exactly what it takes to win and how to get a succesful team going, just need people to make it happen with.

I am elligible to represent NA.
My team renamed to Orange Logo after roster changes.

Any rules about reforming teams significantly causing them to lose their spot? Would seem a bit farfetched if 1 player just signed up and could replace all 4 names he put in the day before the tourney because he signed up alt accounts until he could get a team together.

Teams will drop. They always do. So don’t be discouraged from signing up!

Yes they count the second your team is on the sign up list, waiting list or not!

Waiting list isn’t to terribly long atm if teams get their rosters on there asap!

It was announced on Monday what day and time signups would go live. I believe it hit the cap 6 or 7 hours after there were live.

Remember, a lot of teams will drop out and we will be needing those teams on waiting list.

I would like to see it expanded to 128 teams, but I’m not sure if that’s something that is doable.. we will have to see.

As for sending invites out to teams. Before this week there were maybe 2-3 teams on NA that were actually stable. Because of this, there is no knowing of who to even send invites out to. Most of these teams formed yesterday or today, no doubt. You can’t blame DPS for this.
