Just report them and use the match as a practice session. I usually try to practice evasion and escapes in these matches. Don’t get angry at them, it’s like putting gasoline on the fire. Just report and ignore.
You can threaten to report them for match manipulation, then record them making fun of you. Then email ANet, they will get a partial ban. All communications are saved and backed up so they can see what everyone has said in chat.

I think they do have the right to ban players depending on how severe the situation is (cheating, botting, hacking, etc). But yeah, a warning letter or something not to AFK in game again itself would be nice.

I hate when ppl do that. I’ve won several matches despite being down big and late. Ppl that give up and whine are just showing their immaturity and often times they’re the worst player on the map.

Yeah. Unforunately, that seems to happen all the time, especially in ranked. Hence why I never get further than Emerald. Honestly, it seems like the only non-d**chebag-filled place in PvP is daily servers. :/
This situation is becoming all too common. It seems that one in every five games I play has someone (on either team) whine then afk at spawn after the first fight at mid doesn’t go 100% smooth.
I can report until I’m blue in the face. Others can do the same. The problem is still persisting. This is one of the reasons the PvP community is so small. It just ruins the game after waiting several minutes in queue only to have one player tank your progress.
A dev response to this situation would be nice, but I’m not holding my breath.
Punishing AFK players just further alienates the playerbase and makes PvP queues even longer.
People will AFK if they feel the game is unwinnable or they’ve been placed into a side to lose. I have no answers but punishing people will solve nothing.

ANet needs to bring back the system whereby even if your team loses, you may still gain pips depending on your performance. A 250-500 loss should be enough to result in a “no pip loss”, while an extremely close match like 450-500 might grant 2 pips even to the losing team.

Fortunately she still did her best, and we ended up winning 500 to 350. Solid victory.
If she had gone AFK because she assumed we’d lose we would have simply lost rather than getting two delicious pips.

I agree with that, I’m not advocating that it’s ok to give up before the match starts. But if you gave it a proper go and you get flattened in teamfights, no one works together, no coms etc – Rather afk/sit at pad than making it last even longer.
Always said give the team a kick option that will cout as dishonour. If four vote you out (unless the four are full premade, which can support bad habits), the player is kicked out and handled from the system like a quitter.
Community wil self regulate quiters or toxic people. I don´t think that all four will vote someone out for no or just minor reasons. There will be a small collateral damage but i expect it to be very minor. If someone constantly insults people or AFK´s he will acumulate lots of dishonour …. You get if if you throw a match in Q. Then you might get it when you throw a match after start which definitly is even more dishonouring….
An in adition you give a tool to players to kick toxic people. Always remember it´s four that must vote. Of course less votes will lead to more problems and would be bad.
An in the case you realy get flatened, i expect people will understand its OK to make it quick. Its sufficient that one agrees because three can´t kick someone.

How about a better report with an actual functionality?
If a player would accumulate enough reports in certain time frame, he should get a a temporary ban via automated system. Because this functions could maybe be abused, there should be dedicated support, that would review tickets considering this matter and resolve them quickly by log checks etc.
Reality would be, that almost 100% of bans would be in place and should fix the toxicity. More report options could be added for staff to get a clearer picture of reports (assisting enemy team, verbal abuse, toxic behavior, etc. – I heard about pvp botting so maybe report for that too).
Automated ban systems do wonders for a game’s popularity. Aquaman supports this statement.
How about a REAL MAKE MATCHMAKING SYSTEM.

You really think that four people would not agree to kick someone just so they can save their pips, as soon as they notice the game isn’t going their way? You’d see people bandwagoning on first kick suggestion as soon as they’d feel the game is lost.

Well of couse a kick should not save the pip loss. Rewards for kicking someone would be realy bad. But thanx for mentioning this.

If the team who lose reach 300 then no pip lose.
If the team who lose reach 400 gain a pip for interesting match.
It would encourage ppl to fight until the end of the match.
Not loosing a Pip for reaching something like 300-400 points would be great. But gaining a pip is propably to much. So i woudl setz it to 400+ to not loose a PIP.

No, we want to encourage those people to not be toxic. Having a chance of not losing the pip if you played well enough might just do exactly that.
Prevention is better than dealing with the problem after it happens. And carrots usually work better than sticks.

Dude, I needed 200 games to reach diamond, so I’m not a guy with fancy mmr. I am working 8 hours/day and guess what, I’m not getting paid, because I’m on practice education – you point fails miserably at this point.
I did have the problem with 50% win/loss ratio, and what did I do? I stopped looking at current meta and wen’t for a build I had most success before divisions got introduced. And I didn’t afk on a single game during my 1500 matches!
Being a good necro/rev got me nowhere if people would not focus and safe stomp/ress my dps and cc would go to waste – I suggest you run auramancer or bunker guard, because now days you seem to carry soloq teams by safe stomping/ressing. Now I hardly die and can hold a points for a longer periods of time – effectively giving my team time to focus on other things. Reaching diamond made game even easier, because it’s a rare sight to see unskilled people.
End of the point is, you can do many things about bad matches, but afking/leaving a game should be punishable big time! And just for the reference, we strted with 10:120 and won, we were at 320/460 and won, so stop f@king afking/leaving and play at your best. In case you are not willing to improve on that aspect, I hope they introduce a tier loss in emerald so you never even touch my games.

Devil’s advocate/blame the victim answer: perform a necessary role, play it well, and your teammates won’t afk on you.
I had an piece of kitten guy AFK on me because I didn’t come to close quickly enough. We were 248-200 in our favour and he AFK’ed. We lost the game horribly.
Oddily enough had I left mid. It’d litterally had been decapped 10 seconds later. Broke my kittening winstreak.
Sorry but I will never, ever accept any reason for Afk’ers unless it was a DC, Or they IRL troubles which they had to quickly attend to.
When u decide to play a game with complete randoms, then u better accept that u might get teamed up with people not as good as you. Or complete idiots. That’s what u call consequences. The game is a team game. You are not the only getting frustrated by bad gameplay it’s relative unless u are an high mmr player that can rank high in the guild challenger league and get to legend in less then a 100 games. They won’t be many people above you aside from the pro’s. Everybody else makes kittening mistakes and u will see differences in skill level.
In short get over it, Or don’t even play the game at all.
Or people should be punished for going afk. People should also git gud so that whiny nerds who afk don’t go afk.
i think this pip system brings toxic to another lvl.
i also flame when i see players afk at point alone whole game like i had last 3 games ina row.
but there is a diference calling some 1 nab or scrub or :
game started i went far won my 1 vs 1 in less then 10 seconds and then i ran mid ,
by the time i got to mid (i was solo , but the other 4 players i had were a 4 men premade) all my team wiped in secs, i didnt say anything, but sudently i started getting insults from them towards me and my family.
wtf is this?, im actually legend atm and my 4 premade team mates were all diamond , actually one was div 4 and the others div 5, but the thing is if they were also legend probly wouldnt have ended like this.
previous game before that again , before game started i said pliz dont afk at points, i got 1 player saying he would afk at base, i didnt say anything , then he started to insult me for no reason, i asked them to stop and he kep insulting me , he just didnt stop, at the end i saw he was div 5.
i think some players see they cant reach legend and start to insult players non stop , i mean really insulting.
i think this game in season 4 will have even less players.
I had a similar, and getting more frequent, sPvP circumstance last night. A druid (he didn’t even take the capture point) sat on our home capture point the entire match. He scored 0 points and no one on the other team even bothered him. What makes this even worse is that he talked in chat the entire match about how we were getting double and triple teamed at mid and subsequently how bad we were playing individually. I ended up reporting him just antecedent of the match’s end.
Personally speaking, once you select “compete,” you obligate yourself to do so. Furthermore, I do not believe it matters what you personally like or don’t like; neither does it matter about my “professional” and personal opinion about team composition (for solo que). As solo que combatants, we have to deal with what we are given. So then, why not try and make the best of it no matter how “hopeless” it seems? I know that I have been surprised many times by the way the team I was on was mixed together and its outcome.
Nevertheless, we are there to compete; no ifs, ands, or buts. I have had all sorts of teams and teammates, and every time I go out, I say nothing about players, professions or level of ability, just don’t waste my time badgering others during a match because it’s entirely counter-productive. I do try to give pointers on rotating or other useful in match information only. All I care about is playing my hardest in order to help the other 4 guys and myself try to get a win, and hopefully have some fun along the way.
If anyone shows up and doesn’t want to compete, please do not come to competitive sPvP because the rest of us are there for that very reason.

Oh they don’t even need to do that. I haven’t played a ranked or unranked match in GW2 in over a month or two. So no need to worry your little head off about getting matched with me in a match. So much other more fun and competitive products out atm.
At this moment I’m only on the forums “Trying” to with apparently little effort to allow ANet to make their game fun and competitive again so I can return home to GW2. But again w/e life goes on I guess. I have not absolutely giving up on GW2 quite “yet”. But I do refuse to play it in it’s current state, which I’m hoping with little faith at this point that ANet slows this train wreak in progress down before that 50 degree turn in the tracks.

If someone wants stright forward PvP so more a FPS without much diversity GW2 is not the game of choice. I always said diversity is the key. For All game modes. I play GW for fredom of making a character and the possibility to adapt. GW reduced that and as result other FPS overtake PvP. Balacing it to one build per class ist only balance and puts GW´s PvP in competition with games like overwatch.
