I give up, I’ve tried believe me, tpvp used to be fun when it was tickets, I honestly think it kept the hotjoin heroes away because it was tickets.

Tpvp soloq is now just an extension of hotjoin you get crap pvp with teams with burst builds zerging around the points.

Game over for me I’m afraid, and yes you can have my stuff.

OP is right. There is nothing wrong with having noob teammates. The problem is that alot of the time your team will just zerg point to point and often you will see 3 people stood on a point capping…..there is nothing you can do when this happens. It really does suck.

And that is presuming you actually have 5 players…

When I tourney its with my guild and we are still pretty coordinated (not on vent, mumble, or anything) sometimes we get someone from solo que added onto our team and the person doesn’t say anything THE ENTIRE MATCH… We don’t know what they are doing or where they are going… I start thinking hmmm okay lemme see what hotjoin is like… There nobody talks AT ALL… It’s like a lot of people don’t even understand the game mode… or that their are other chat channels than just /say… or that the team is trying to talk to them.

What is your rank? Unless you reach 30-40 minimum you are stuck with the “hell”. That is a fact.

And it is much harder to start your rank grind successfully from now than it was a couple of months ago for various reasons.

So what I would really advise you is to at least try to have one or two people that daily spvp and build your relationship from there. Try to respond to spvp guild recruits in map chat or find some that are listed in here.

When you start improving your communication with these 2 or 3 people try to seek players through tournies or making lfg statements in mapchat with that small group of yours.

All I do is solo que every night when I play. Sure, some games aren’t full of like index players but in any competitive game where a true solo que exists this will be the case.

It would t be so bad if you didn’t run into premades when solo queuing, but alas, that’s the direction Anet chose.

lvl 34 almost here and still get paired with lvl 1ns when we do a 30-40 rank group lmao. Hidden rankin ftw right.

I agree with Mosharn, I am 38 now and still end up with < rank 10s, does the hidden rank even work?

I fully agree with you on every aspect. i dont think losing to a premade as a solo q is an excuse either. Although sometimes its hard when you end up with 3 warriors and 2 necros or something vs a balanced team.

However I also agree with op. There are players who just stand on points for glory etc. Yeh people make mistakes but point whoring is just selfish and needs to be discouraged with the scoring system.

I solo Qed once yesterday and got a full random pug team. We were up against a premade so it didnt look good at first but after a very close fight we squeeked out a tight win!

When people understand that you dont need to have three people capping points and some other basic stuff and playing for the win not playing for your own point total then things go well.

OP is right. There is nothing wrong with having noob teammates. The problem is that alot of the time your team will just zerg point to point and often you will see 3 people stood on a point capping…..there is nothing you can do when this happens. It really does suck.

If the ranking system works and you always play better than they do (thus contribute more than the average player doing this) you will eventually not play along side them.

Also, what he said is right…the people complaining always say how the rest of their team was worst than them. Truth is you have 4 other teammates, odds are..one of em is not going to be as good as you….sometimes your the worst. I swear everytime one of my lower elo friends on LoL CRYS ALL DAY to me how they’re stuck in elo hell…and all they get is bad teammates and thats why they’re stuck there and i should duo with them….guess what….they end up being the worst person on the team and often cause us to lose (or i have to carry their butt). So i do beleive this mentality is silly…some games it will be bad teammates, some games it will be you….if its never because of you EVER, then you will eventually move past them and end up fighting alongside players equal in your skill.

This ofc is assuming this ranking system actually is working. I have no idea how their system works.

It wasn’t that tickets were hard to get but tickets seem to discourage the hotjoin generation because they had to actually pay out and would have the chance at losing, the loss actually meant something. Without tickets losing has no consequences so why try?

The thread was about tpvp turning into hotjoin with people not even trying to win or use tactics but instead going for the maximum number of points by zerging and all staying on a point to cap etc. I dont really think its an issue of skill. It is an issue of your teammates not caring about winning and just playing for themselves. The points system needs to change. I dunno how its been 6 months and its still the same. It is just lazy tbh

So if he out performs them and impacts each game to where he comes out on top (by focusing on capturing points etc) then he will eventually be matched along other people who impacted their games more than their teammates. And eventually fight alongside and against people who do not do the stupid things people do in hot joins…they will stay in a lower rank and be matched up against each other.

edit: this is what a match making system is designed to do…put equal skill players against each other, if you prove to the system your better than who it is currently putting you against, it will eventually give you harder opponents and better allies.

I dont think this works in practice because of the following reasons:

1, Not enough players play. Therefore often if will just dump you into a team of the 5 other solo queuers and put you against a team as there usually wont be two whole teams of solo queuers. And if there is then they likely will be of different levels as matchmaking wont have effect as there are only 2 teams.
2, The mix of solo q and premades throws the whole matchmaking into a tail spin. You will have poor players who play in strong teams who will artifically raise your teams level that it simply is not at…all because you have a player who only plays with his guild and runs balanced teams to get a good rating.

Which has nothing to do with the type of people wanting to play it….but there simply arent enough people playing it period.
and the other problem is a whole other problem…it shouldnt have teams balanced against solo que…but fix this problem and you add to the first problem.

So basicly, its gonna be hard untill arenanet magicly finds a way to bring more players in. Also, 3 map match making is still the same…long ques with a higher chance to get better players. The hotjoin crowd is going to 2 team matchmaking, not 8 team. And like always, your probably gonna get stomped by some premades.

So essentially, despite what OP said, nothing really changed. 8 team is the same, just theres a new 2v2 mode that hotjoin people are migrating into.

This is far from what I experienced before the change, just an observation.

(I don’t think tickets were a problem after you got one from the dailies…)

No, it was the ‘paid’ tournament, that is now 2 team matchmaking.

Unless im mistaken. There was only 8 team paid. And 2 team was added alongside the removal of tickets.

there aren’t enough players queuing at your rating to fill a pug team with experience.

there aren’t enough players queuing at low rating to fill a pug team with low experience, let alone 2 teams.

bottom line: there aren’t enough players. the game is effectively dead until ANet makes some big moves.

i still have fun logging in to practice various things. but i’m usually in soloQ for about 15 minutes before i get a pop the past few days, with only 1 superpug to run against. it’s fun for a few matches at least.

Strange World is the only NA team i see regularly still.

Good stuff. Maybe there is some hope for faceroll builds to get fixed if they are now polluting tournaments too.

I agree with you. I see a lot of whiners and I swear the game gets close or interesting towards the end but the fact is, your too busy telling everyone they suck or whining and if you didnt spend so much time in it we could’ve won.

I dont mind losing here and there because your not going to win every single time, but I just cant stand whiners or people that give up in tournament. I’ve only gave up once and that was because the other team was extremely good, they were a much higher rank and had everything and was just camping our spawn point and we was down 1 player. Was pointless to even try when they camp your spawn point.

But yes it has turned into a hotjoin I encourage people to do 2 team tourny because you get chest, you dont get it in regular pvp. I have tried solo que in 8 team tourny but I’ve waited 30 mins and it just ques out because it takes so long someone that it ques me with leaves or something I suppose.

The issue with tournament and ques is that not everyone is doing it so your just playing with whoever is available. The hidden matchup system I suppose would include your wins and losses streak.

Also I would suggust not to create a random team or a guild team if your new to pvp and your goal is to farm chests and win, because most other fully created teams will be of high ranking and if no other low rank team ques up, have fun getting crushed, believe me its hard to get good when a high ranking team just conditions the heck out of you and crushes you leaving you no options.

Some quick points:

- Three tourney wins are on the monthly, so you should expect everyone to enter tPvP at some point (and the “free” tourney is going to be the preference). If you don’t like this then lobby for a change to the monthly. Otherwise deal with it.

- The glory system rewards capture, not point defense. So don’t be surprised that a PuG tourney has this behavior — it’s a PuG without any special team-based coordination. All hot-join PvP players are conditioned to behave this way by the current glory system.

- On Sunday all I saw in the tournaments were bunker engineers, bunker mesmers, roaming thieves… with very little else sprinkled in. Yeah an occasional ranger and condition necro, but not that often. I wouldn’t classify this as “burst builds”. It seemed quite the opposite. I would have preferred a pile of burst builds instead.

The problem of course is driving the point into their thick skulls that 2 points is better than one(or none in most cases when I solo-q). It’s far better to grab sides, than send 3 to sit in mid and not cap it. Not to mention holding points is far better than farming glory, but that’s what a fair number of these matches turn into.

I will say that the advice above about finding a group of people who consistently play is probably your best bet if you want to keep doing tPvP. The past couple days I’ve probably added ~15 people or so that I’ve played with and done well together; makes it SUPER easy to get a good functional non-“guild” group together.

I mean…sigh. Literally forum post after forum post about how tourney ques were too long popped up. You all literally said we need more casuals. Now you got them. I mean either you want them in or you don’t. The super popular Spvp inst that popular Anet is trying but unless they break there rule about “e-sport” or the community suddenly finds WvW and PvE boring this isn’t going to change. With time many of these players after defeats will get better but atm that’s not going to happen. Teach, lose, or quit.

I really think that this mmr is to go down not to go up, after so much time playing solo and duo queu i start to find mates who know about the game mechanics and what you need to win, not to farm glory. But i see some low ranks in some games.

I think about that and my conclusion is that you start with one rank and the majority of players go down, just some premades go up where they just face between they all the time. But when someone start in the tournaments, he/she go directly to medium lvl (good soloqueuers) instead of low lvl.

this is annoying for the soloq players and scares new players from the tournaments
