Trolling players in Ranked Matches
I’ve had a total of 3 matches in the past 2 days where there will be a troll.
- He/She will go to undefended nodes and not finish captures
- Simply watch on the side while other team captures a node (possibly afk?)
- Down players and let them revive themselves
- Just aimlessly chat and argue in team/map chat
Am I the only one experiencing this? are there more trolls now? Is it because of the sale? Did players create cheap alt. accounts to troll in PvP?
I just want to know if I’m the only one experiencing this. It was just 3 times, but I feel like its more than enough for me to want to ask the community.
No, it’s not because of the sale. They don’t even see the PvP button until like level 21, and I doubt new players will queue for a ranked match that early.
It’s more likely that your rating has tanked and you’re in a rough spot where teammates don’t take the game as seriously.
That’s ridiculous, I’ve never heard of anything like that. Maybe they just give up or really don’t take it seriously enough.
That’s not a troll, just a bad player. People need to stop using the word troll to describe something they don’t like.

+1. Theres a difference between someone who just doesnt care about supporting your game enjoyment and someone who actively wants to detract from it (though the two can be interrelated.)
Maybe they just didnt feel like the team had a chance in hell.

I used to think (build op, pls nerf) like you, but then I took a nerf to the knee.
with the stronghold beta having been going on then the number of people playing ranked will have dropped fairly drastically, meaning right now you’re more likely to be matched up with bad players or players further away from your normal mmr
Didn’t they say something about taking care of new players in ranked queue months ago? It’s still a problem.
Trolls most certainly exist in ranked PvP, I have been fortunate enough to not have one on my team but I have been in matches with them and it kind of ruins the match for both teams.
Also although you cannot see the button for PvP until level 21 anyone who bought an account just to troll would know about PvP and would still be able to enter through the portals.
anyone who heard about pvp and see that they cannot join can quickly find the way to do it.
The button is not deactivated, it’s just invisible and anyone with half a brain can set a shortcut for the panel and enter HotM anyway
Yeah never had a troll, been lucky enough, or maybe I am the troll, which I can do depending if someone starts becoming salty.
I have this tendency of willingly kittening people off, though I usually reserve myself for unranked, sorry if it bothered anyone who weren’t related to my current “mission”

No, didn’t mean this. People would still be able to join unranked and hotjoin but the community has asked from some restrictions for ranked queue. They said they would so something about it a few months ago, but still hasn’t happened.
Some of the stuff you said can be higher level play too, which always has a chance to backfire.
1.) Decapoing and leaving. Sometimes is used to slow points but it takes a long time to cap so you re-assist your allies.
2.) Let downed players rally themselves. If done right, you can keep a player out of a match for a long time by making them think they can rally but interrupting it. It’s a bit of psychology to make it work and sometimes if you mess up (especially against a guardian or ranger) you can accidentally give them a rez.
The others might need more context, depends. May not always be trolling. However it’s always good to just ignore rage heads, maybe even block them. It’ll help your enjoyment in the long run.

In other words, you can’t ever let a ranger bleed out, it’s just a horrible mistake.
Uncapping and leaving is pretty normal, but I have a feeling OP is talking about something else. I’ve had a guy on my team who would 1v1 another player and when downed, he would let him ress, not cap the point and continue 1v1. This happened in ranked and shouldn’t be allowed.
After all, people should deserve to play ranked, not mindlessly spamming the button and then ruining games for everyone because they feel like trolling/never played pvp before.

- - You are probably not understanding when a player is choosing to neutralize and move, rather than stand and cap. Sometimes it is better to neutralize and get back to a fight than it is to stand and cap.
- - Sometimes if a player knows he will not be able to defend a node against 2 or more players, he will abandon the cap and run around the node blocking and evading to draw numbers so that it is easier for your team on two other points.
Example: Legacy Of Foefire – A good cele/rifle engi is assaulted at far point by a d/d ele and a hambow. He tries his best to defend the node but knows that if he sits on it he will die so he toolkit blocks and super speeds away to run around and heal before going back to the node. He may even start hitting their gate in hopes that the two opponents come over to him rather than pour in to mid. What he is trying to do is effectively allow YOUR team a 4v3 “in your favor” and home and mid, while he distracts two up near their gates, even if the far point is the enemy color.
- - Downing players off-point, letting them revive a bit and then DPSing them back in to a 20-30% health range is just an old tactic to deny players re-spawns. It isn’t really trolling it’s just part of conquest.
- - Peope argue and spew vomit in /m chat or /t chat for a few reasons:
- They are frustrated at their team losing “it may or may not be their own fault”
- They are frustrated at stupid rotation choices “even while winning”
- They are frustrated when ill-informed players toss critique
Help avoid the above kitten by never speaking to them unless you are 100% sure that you know exactly what you are talking about and do so in a constructive way.

I was just in a match with a troll. He had a troll name and started trolling before the match even started. He knew what he was doing, he afk and spammed abuse during the whole match. Why does ArenaNet let these trolls continue?
About troll’s, all I can say is, this ladder system is WAY too freaking punishing. One troll can basically cost any of us 3 points in one match. It’s more than likely we’ll only get 1 point per win. If we have a 50% win rate, which we should have about, that’s 6 matches or well over an hour lost to one troll in 5 minutes. It’s just flat out wrong that this can happen.
Btw, I’m talking about players whom rage quit at the start of a match. Or, players whom outright say they aren’t going to contribute and prance around spawn the whole match. There are simply some serious troll’s in ranked. Probably just bought extra accounts to tank everyone else on the leader board.

- It was at the beginning of the match, he said he’d get home, starts it, then runs of and stares it mid from above, while there’s a 2v3 going. Doesn’t range support and only talks about how we need to ’work harder.
- The guy made no effort to avoid combat, if he was attacked, he’d let himself get downed and stomped.
- If he, by some work of gawd, managed to down an enemy he wouldn’t stomp them, even if they downed on point.
- His arguments were vulgar and pointless, half of it was about Obama. And the other half was about why everyone can’t just get along. Nothing to contribute to the match.
I know about neutralizing points, about maximizing downed states, I know the importance of choosing when and where to fight, and I respect players that know when its time to disengage and regroup.
This was none of that.
He was just a plain troll. It was pretty obvious he knew how to play but chose not to contribute to the match.
Every player who obviously does this intentionally, I just block and move on. So far I’ve blocked 5 players. This was just a post to see if anyone else was seeing a rise in trolling PvP players.
(edited by ChoChoBo.6503)
I’ll also note, that no one in the party or on the other team responded to this player until the end of the match. And even the other team was annoyed by what he was doing and saying.
He was, by far, the worst troll I’ve encountered in PvP.
over the last few days ranked has become a joke with the number of trolls
I am not sure all of this is trolling especially the not capping points fully thing because that is something I have seen far too often lately. Somehwere along the line some noob got the idea that its slick to do something like neutralize a node and then go help with something like svanir or chieftien or help at another node and other brainiacs have copied it. It cost me a game the other day somebody left a free cap at neutral to over help somewhere else. If you are someone that thinks this is some kind of smart strategy it isn’t. Sure the other team isn’t getting points from the node but neither are you. Always fully cap a point.

Luckily I have not seen more trolls lately. The matchmaking in ranked during the last two days was awful but I think that was because of the even lower player base while the stronghold beta. I hope this will get better today.
