Illustrious Exhausted Primordial Legendary Druid, and Mesmer for fun
PvE | PvP (1500)| WvW | Fractals | Dungeons
@Ithilwen
You cant really blame the mmr when youre such a weak player due to your arm/hand. In every season, you bring up thread after thread about mmr hell, when in fact you arent in mmr hell. The game is created in the way that you need 2 functional arms/hands to play it, it doesnt consider damaged arms/hands. It probably works well for you in pve but pvp is alot different. I think you just have to realise that theres no way for anet or mm to make it better for you under your circumstances. Also…try scrapper, why even try warrior with your arm/hand, its a real bad choice. Go scrapper that have one skill bar basically with alot of sustain. The class can carry you a tiny bit but dont expect wonders.
Oh wow, I didn’t know Ithilwen had a damaged hand. Try a G600 gaming mouse, if you can. You can grab one at Best Buy. I play Ranger and Mesmer, both of which require alot of keypresses and have most everything bound to the mouse. I just use my left had to press forward back and side to side. This might help. Glad you enjoy GW.
You guy’s do realize your just as “Bad” as the Op. i would go so far as to say the Op is better. You see you are being carried by passives, and are to foolish to realize that little fact instead you claim “Skill”. kind of pathetic if you ask me.
Everybody is being carried by passives. Therefore no one is really being carried by passives.
Just for the record: Ithilwen has a Razer Naga Epic, so he’s set for a gaming mouse. He’s had it as long as I’ve known he’s played the game.
I don’t think Ithilwen’s far off accepting he’s “not that good”. Given the first post, the issue Ithilwen has highlighted is that he’s “not facing opponents on his level”. To which the obvious answer to that is he requires pip/tier/division loss so that anytime he pushes to high into a skill level he can’t cope with, it’ll bump him back down appropriately.
That is the obvious answer to all of this.
A major issue is being overlooked here. So-called “good” players are cycling back through the ranks on f2p accounts.
Therefore, neither I or any of the other players honestly struggling through the lower ranks are getting a fair shake. We’re continually matched against Diamond/Legend players in disguise. I have personally posted multiple screenshots of an ESL player (still wearing his ESL guild tag ) farming in Emerald over a period of 9 hours.
I suggest that f2p accounts shouldn’t be allowed to queue for ranked for at least 6 months or not at all. They can play pvp.. but not be allowed to gum up the works in the tournaments. This is an exploit that ANET is permitting and it makes matchmaking at least partly meaningless.
@Ross Biddle
Sadly, the shiny (the legendary backpack) requires crossing divisions. Remove the “safety nets” with the players cycling through on f2p accounts for easy wins and the matchmaker… and the shiny would become unobtanium.
That would remove the last motivation for new players to play. They certainly aren’t playing for the pleasure of being pounded repeatedly.

Plenty of people played PvP long before there were a pair of shiny wings.
I know I have absolutely no interest in dirtying up my toon with them XD
Yes, you’re right Ross. I admit not being a high level player. My issue is that I want matches tuned to my level. This is the purpose of matchmaking.
-edit- At this point random matches would be a significant improvement.

I’m actually with you there. Ranked is where those with the best tools are supposed to utilize them to the best of their ability.
Pro-tip/best way out of mmr hell:
quit the game.
It’s a 4 year old mmo that has consistently made the wrong choices in design. There are a myriad of other games out there to play, overwatch being the most comparable to core gw’s pvp ideals.
Just do it, send a message for gws 3

@Chaith
Perhaps the neo-smurf issue isn’t as large as I suspect. I still contend that no serious competition venue deliberately presets the results of a match. I’m in Sapphire because I fought my way to Ruby last season and then fought my way out of Emerald this season.
I’m in the appropriate skill range as much as you are. We were both assigned per last season’s results. The problem is clearly the matchmaking that is expressly designed to cause one side to win.
That is amplified by the fact that it keeps reaching to further and further ranges because of the dwindling participation.
I’m in the appropriate skill range as much as you are.
You see that’s convenient to believe, but if that was true, you wouldn’t be ridiculously oppressed by the matchmaker, and 90% of the pips you would’ve lost wouldn’t be protected by no-pip loss safe points.
The safe points make winning the wings a possibility, if a slim one.
As much as some would like to deny it. The wings are the reason many people are playing. Why else would anyone put up with a system that is designed to heavily favor some players and cause loss streaks for others?
Remove the last hope of getting the wings and you lose those players.

Seems you didn’t read my entire post:
“I agree with the guy before who suggested that all the safety spots in the league should be removed, and the Wings become grindable, like they already are for 99% of the population.”
Literally the only thing your posts are concerned about is whether you will get the wings or not, and the people in your boat who desperately want them, but won’t be able to get the Tickets in 4 Seasons, that’s a very small boat.
None the less, I think they might as well make it grindable for the people who can’t always get to Ruby even with abundant no-pip loss points, because if they did that, they’d be able to improve the system’s integrity for everyone, by removing safe points which keep people at much higher divisions than they should be, and heavily messing with the placements.
@Chaith
Thank you for acknowledging that I am in fact " ridiculously oppressed by the matchmaker." Ergo, the system is not working properly.
Yes of course I’m worried about whether or not I’ll be able to get the wings. This is particularly true in light of the number of crushing losses I’ve suffered through.
As to the “system’s integrity”: The system is expressly designed to make unfair matches. There’s no integrity in that.
I understand that certain players would like to be matched only with players of similar skill. The simple fact is that there aren’t enough players to do that. The efforts to create that situation have only reduced the population.
Elite echelons can’t be supported.. there simply aren’t enough players. Sadly, ANET tried to resolve that by attracting players via a legendary backpack…
Then those players were used as pure cannon fodder for the entertainment of the elite players. Naturally, this dampened enthusiasm.
Now, it’s becoming very apparent that the wings can’t really be gotten by “everyone.” Posters on the forum even advocate basically denying them to anyone below legendary. This has the potential to become a real credibility problem for ANET.

I don’t think this poses a problem for ArenaNet’s credibility, as their reputation is not damaged if a player can’t achieve the Legendary reward, playing each season as a first-time class, one handed. It poses more of a problem for you.
Despite this, I feel like I’m just repeating myself now, I don’t think it would be a bad thing if everyone could get the Legendary reward, playing each season as a first-timer, one handed. It’s just a graphic, and it’s already practically welfare after 4 seasons of playing.
Why do you constantly cry on the forums that you won’t attain your goal anyways? You made it to Ruby in S2, I’m sure you can do it in S3 and S4. How about waiting until the last few weeks of the Season before going hard on the paint’ with your full time beating your head against the wall. It’s seriously gotta impact your mental health here, take a listen to everyone else on the forums and take a vacation from the hardcore league farming until it’s died down as much as possible.
Okay, sorry to say this to you, OP.
I appreciate your dedication to this game and PvP but the reality is that most of the players worse than you or at your level already quit playing. So you end up playing against players who are better than you and their alts.
PvP league is just such a failure.
It creates a painful grinding process for players like OP and a meaningless title for so-called top players.
Those ESL players get legendary easily but I can also get legendary easily although my skill level is so much lower than theirs. Such a meaningless league at both ends of the stick.

You got THAT right. After Year of Ascension or league season 4 ends, I suggest Anet SCRAP these leagues. These leagues are a total failure. It brought new players in the short-term, but destroyed pvp in the long-term.
I will dare say that LEADERBOARDS should be brought back. I enjoyed that a lot more.
I want the kittened prize. I’ve worked hard for it and I’ll be kittened if I’m going to walk away at this point.
The league has never “levelled out” not in the past seasons and it won’t now. That’s a myth that was used to justify deliberately unfair matchmaking. So taking time off is counter productive.
As to “practically welfare” I think you have a skewed perspective, sir. I need to grind as hard as possible to jump through all the hoops.
The final hoop, division crossings will likely not be attainable. I wouldn’t mind staying in one division and it would be pleasant to be matched with similar skilled people.. division means little to nothing to me.
ANET however, has decreed that I need to win enough times against steep uphill odds to cross another 3 divisions. It doesn’t look like that’s going to happen. Thus all my work this year is wasted and I simply got used as cannon fodder.
Huh that’s funny, I didn’t lose a single game til upper Ruby and am at Legendary after 85 games. I’m sure its the matchmaker tho!
I watched a legendary player play on another account and get from amber to ruby in like 20 games.
He was really confused and said “Wow, I had really good matchmaking”.
It must be nice to be consistently on the side favored to win.
I will very likely be denied the wings because there is no way I’m going to win 6 matches in a day. I’m looking at consistent 15 match loss streaks and working all night for a single win.

I think you should really adjust your mindset. Did you ever hear the phrase from your parents “I want, doesn’t get” when you were growing up?
Everyone seems to want a reward for doing anything in todays society. If Andy Murray loses Wimbledon, he accepts it, then trains to improve himself, so that next time he can hopefully win.

I’m just going to point out that you don’t have the best experiences playing through leagues.
You’d be smart to not just dismiss all advice and insist you have to grind 80 more losses, and tank your MMR further. You say taking time off is counter productive, but what’s actually counter productive is just you queuing in general.
I have a good amount of experience with the leagues, and you do have drastically easier matches towards the very end of the season when the majority of competent players have cleared that content and either moved on, or stopped.
Think of all the things in life you could be doing instead of losing 25 times in a row, early Season?
What stage of the Season did you hit Ruby in S2? Maybe you maintain that your loss-grinding all season finally paid off near the end, but I hope you’re not that blind.
Can we now stop pretending gw2 is a esport? i mean random kids are getting twitch subscription partnership with only 1 week old twitch accounts with 200 followers and no real motivation to be a streamer.
Yet ESL or Arena net is getting these fake people partnered, something real content creators took years to get.
Even docgotgame (Arena Nets biggest streamer and promoter on twitch) agrees that random people who have no business being partnered with twitch, is wrong and bs.
How far is this fake Esport agenda going to go? I mean hardly anyone even plays Structured pvp ranked due to how improperly implemented leagues are.

Yep. I hear players from average, to intermediate, to advanced skill levels all saying this. My girlfriend cleared 5 Tiers of Diamond in a sitting, this week, and she’s one that’s typically held her own during a match, but never was an overwhelming force of eSpurts herself

Agreed. Look ithilwen, I know you REALLY want those wings, but you’re placing way too much importance on them. The wings aren’t going to buy you a new car, a new house, put food on the table etc.
If you really are putting full-time working hours into it like you say, just grinding away PvP games, I think it’s time you ask yourself, is it really worth spending so much time doing that, when you could be doing something more productive/beneficial?
All the backpack is doing, is making you angry and causing you stress.

What the hell does a pretend eSports agenda and who get content creator affiliate links by ArenaNet have to do with each other? The ESL doesn’t have any influence on the content creator program.

Mind if I ask, why bother with GW’s?
Why not a different, wider appealing, more competitive game?

Because my friends and I are good at GW2 after years of dedication, and it’s by far the best opportunity. Overwatch doesn’t even have comparable prizes.

I’m sure you’re aware that it won’t be long before it’s ded tho, still, essentially, free money for you, I’m jelly :P
@Chaith
I resent that you call me incompetent by implication. I’m not the best player by a long stretch.. but I’m not incompetent either with 3 world completions and nearly 4 years on my main.
“I have a good amount of experience with the leagues, and you do have drastically easier matches towards the very end of the season when the majority of competent players have cleared that content and either moved on, or stopped.” Chaith.
You missed some basic issues… I currently have 7 of 11 of Season VI’s requirements complete. That includes Mesmer wins, rank earner and top stats. I got them by being pounded into the ground over and over.
Because of the matchmaking, I am doing my best to get all the peripherals done. 1 1/2 seasons is only just barely enough at the rate I’m ticking wins.
Sadly, I will probably still be denied, because I need 6 wins in a day (hahahahahahaha) and to cross 3 divisions.
I log off when the headache or the nausea get to be too much. I’m at 12 straight losses so far for tonight.. wondering if I can hang to get my nightly win.
It makes me wild and ready to throw my comp out the window that anet deliberately sets matches for me to lose, me and any other low mmr player.
(edited by Ithilwen.1529)
How did I say I want the back piece for free?
That’s ridiculous. I’ve worked far harder for it than the majority who already have it. That’s true at least if we confine the work to this series of seasons.
Sorry that attack has no basis in reality.

You can’t really Compare World Completion to sPvP. PvE is a different ball game to PvP.

This right here, shouldn’t be happening. You shouldn’t be playing to the point where you’re getting nauseous and have a bad headahce. You’re going to cause serious issues for youself if you keep that up. Please for your own well being, take a break. It’s just a video game. Don’t let it cause health issues for yourself.
man this thread is so salty!
@lilth that world completion tho. If you’re not a troll, understand there is no differentiation between you and an obvious troll!
Can even you understand logic?
Before running your mouths, you should get the sheep you oversee, to get their story correct. I been in this Industry long enough to know what is bullcrap and what is genuine.
Why are you raging at me, I’m not running my mouth, nor did I conspire to give team PZ twitch partnerships, you make zero sense, go spaz’ out at somebody else.
I’m not toxic, I know the pvp is really weird in this game and makes no sense, especially the matchmaking and the removing of diversity, if anything it bores me but it doesn’t anger me Sometimes I even try to teach the noobs on my team how to play even though most of the time they don’t listen >.<

If you’re a builder, and you go to the work site ready to build a house, and you spend your day doing laundry on the build site instead of building the house, and at the end of the day the house isnt built and has had no progress, yes you’re worked really really hard… doing laundry all day. However since you didnt do any work building the house, despite working really hard, you shouldnt expect the reward of having built a house XD.
Furthermore if an experienced builder and an inexperienced builder go to work building houses, and the experienced builder, because of his experience, finishes his house sooner and with less hassle/fuss, that’s not to say the experienced builder didn’t work as “hard”. If anything he put in a greater level of effort, albeit a more productive one. His work has a greater value in many regards over the toil of the inexperienced builder.
There’s a lot of distinctions your argument misses in there.
… and allow immature people on the forum to troll you and tell you to chop off body parts and all that bs? …
Hi Ellie, I was thinking the same thing.
Some of these people are, probably, those who reached legendary and think they are the only ones entitled to troll others that don’t.
Ithilwen, you have all my support. Just ignore some of them.
Hi Furious, yea I know. They got an easy ride to the top, most of them probably thanks to getting carried by high mmr and a premade team and figure kitten that was easy these noobs just need to kitten and l2p and stop complaining. But yea regardless of what you may or may not think I don’t think that gives anyone the right to troll. I still wanna know whats appealing about the wings though, they look so weird to me.
Those wings ARE weird, I wouldn’t fight or stress for them ever, not to mention the cost.
In my case, it was the challenge to see where I could get solo queuing, not far, obviously, so I’m not playing much, I’m just playing my dailies, but those wings definitely aren’t worth it.

Yea the way the game is set up you won’t get far if you play alone (unless you have really high mmr), since you will be facing good premades a lot and sometimes get a premade on your team that isn’t so good, if they’d separate solo players from team players like it used to be that would make it better and easier to progress. But you’d still have the issue of imbalanced teams like 1 team that consists of everything that counters the other team, in those cases you’d still lose a lot, but it would be easier anyways if team players and solo players weren’t all put together, I don’t see that ever happening though seems they like it just the way it is.
And the only legendary I’d put time , effort, and money in would be one of the weapons which do not require playing ranked pvp, those wings are hideous O.o
there is literally nothing she can play that would offset her being unable to use her left hand.
if for some reason, Anet did buff a class/spec that it can literally be played on 1 hand and still roll over everything, she’ll still be getting stomped because the people with 2 hands will be playing that class/spec miles better than her.
If i’m playing basketball against Lebron James, I’m not going to ask for the basket to be lowered to 7 foot, because he’ll still stomp me regardless of how high the basket is simply because there is no way my physical and basketball abilities can match up to him in any setting, and I sure as heck won’t complain to the NBA that basketball is too hard because according to them, “anyone can score a basket”.
are you telling me she plays the game with just one hand ? i dont know what to say…kind of sad for her but…also sad for all the ppl she won against, i mean she seriously won one handed vs other ppl?…now i have seen it all
and i didnt look up the vid she posted , but if its as bad as the other guys said, maybe she just dont belong into ruby

You’re going to need a gift that requires full stacks of t6 mats so the back piece isn’t free anyway.
We can team in unranked so you can get in practice without compromising your ranked MMR further. The spectrum of players there ranges from complete noobs all the way up to legendaries. The only problem with it is Skyhammer and while Spiritwatch isn’t bad per se players tend to treat it like team deathmatch. Another thing I don’t like about Spiritwatch is if I have a team that has no suitable orb carrier yet no ele either do I switch to warrior with knight or barbarian amulet (wanderer’s stats aren’t that great when you’re locked out of your abilities) to be the designated orb carrier or ele for the team support? On a thief I even had to tell an ele to drop and let necro carry, and how even I’d be a better orb carrier since I’m not the lowest health on top of the lowest armor (just lowest base health) while not being locked out of essential group support abilities. Better for the group if I’m locked out of blinding powder than him being locked out of overload air or water.

All sour grapes.
OK, I’ve been playing 11 hours straight and have 27 straight stompings to show for it. Kitten it, I’m staying until I can log with a win.
The matchmaking is clearly not working correctly.
A real competitive system would make it harder to win if you won and easier if you lost. ANET chooses to favor players by doing the opposite.
Matchmaking isn’t gonna account for someone playing with 1 hand, it just can’t.
It’s just a shame. Last season when you came on these forums and asked for help and advice Ithilwen I thought that would make you stop with the daily thread blaming the game and/or others for your experiences. But here we are again, season 3, and another day, another Ithilwen thread.

The problem here most likely is that you push yourself to keep playing for insane amounts of time, which doesn’t help you at all. You get more and more kittened, more and more unfocused and it’s all gonna go south even further. Take a break, take it easy. Since you apparently have a problem with one of your hands, did you consider getting one of those one-handed mouse-keyboard-hybrids? Might help you, too.

A real competitive system doesn’t reward losing. A real competitive system doesn’t allow everyone to progress. A real competitive system requires personal improvement …
You don’t want a real competitive system. You want a system, that guarantees everyone wins, regardless of how good or bad he plays.
