Unranked queueing in a group of 4/5 over the course of the last few days, some friends and I are trying to get some of the champ titles before HoT launches and generally just wanting to have a good time.

We have gone 18/0, with wildly different matches, everything from 500-50 to 500-475, usually queueing near the later part of the night, pacific time. We range in rank from I think ~30 to 80, only a few of us solo/duo queued outside of our group before we started playing together, so as a team, given quite diverse backgrounds, I’m wondering how the other teams have really matched up against us.

It’s not very fun to win 500 to near 0, more than once one of us just lets the other team kill us to give them credit for the match so they go home with something. Will it just take us playing together, longer, during other periods of the day to get more even matches?

I have read other threads where the old and newer mmrs are explained. The

system makes sense to me, however I don’t see this playing out very well at all for the opposing team. Some teams have been organized, at least partially, and usually those matches have been more balanced. But what I want to know is given a lack of teams to match us up against, how long will the algorithm wait to match us with lower/higher mmr, non-partied players? Queue times seem nominal around 3-4mins most times.

Is there a preference to higher or lower mmr players when vs’d a queued party? Is this a matter of queueing Unranked vs. Ranked?
