For the sake of strictly bunkering down a point, turret engi. Turrets are tankier than minions and don’t get stuck in weird places.

Wouldn’t recommend either though because they become less and less useful as you progress – turret engis are too immobile and minion masters scale horribly with skill level due to their reliance on AI.

I disagree. Guardian is the best team bunker due to it’s combination of support and survivability, but it isn’t by any means the best solo bunker because it is easily killed on point by a good condi engi or shatter mesmer. For solo bunkering you need something that can return pressure to force your opponent to occasionally play defensively, such as a d/d or staff ele.

Let’s skip condition topic, since it’s a thing that can kill any build.
In time, even Necro will die.

My sole point is:
Guardian is the only class that can hold few players w/o being kicked out of point which would lead to neutralizing it, till teammates will come and aid him in fight.
Amount of Blocks, stability, invulnerability, retaliation, protection etc is enormous.
I have met few guardians like that with good rotation and fighting them was a horrible waste of time, I find it somehow nice, that Guardian both in name and in playstyle fit together.
So yes, survivability wise and point holding wise, Guardian is far superior than Turret engineer or MM Necromancer.

The main difference between those three, is that Guardian can share his boons which make him more team supportive than engineer or necro.
And yet he’s mobile.
Well, each bunker build and class has it’s pros and cons.

None, both of those builds are only used by low IQ players who can’t play a normal build.

both builds will get wrecked by a compitent player with good AOE/cleave. if you want an ‘easymode’ build that is tough, play hambow. it beats both of these builds and allows for better play at higher skill levels (ROM has used it in tournaments), plus you get to laugh at anyone without stability (ie turret enji and minionmancer).

Since turrets actually had there issues fixed and MM necros didn’t….deffinetly in a 1v1 against eachother the engi. Mostly because the necro HAS to be able to land attacks in order to survive. And against something with hard cc and decent aoe damage. That simply isn’t possible.

Yeah would be nice but ofc it won’t happen since anet doesn’t have a clue about improving pet ai for rangers or what exactly they want to do with necro’s in general. There’s a thread in the Necro subforum right now about ways to fix minions done by Bhawb and Sikari that might give some ideas that can be used to Rangers pets as well.

I think for the next ESL this should be the focus. It can become a new Pokemon style game: 2 players enter, summon all of their NPCs and AI. Whoever wins the AI battle can take the point. The 2 players are not encouraged to attack each other though, that would be in bad form and not very gentlemanly.

well i’m killing them in droves with a bomb kit and a celestial amulet. only 1700 power and i can do it. if you are finding you can’t there is is a problem with your play or build.

ANet hates MM but likes turrets, so turrets > MM.

Turrets have had a lot of their issues fixed. They are immobile so no pathing issues, they won’t die to random AoE nearly as easily as minions, they also spam out boons, deal relatively high damage, plus supply crate is insanely good. They are even easier to use than minions with less counters.

Minions on the other hand have a ton of issues. Long activation times, delayed blast finishers, buggy AI, plus they die to AoE extremely quickly. Pair that with the fact that the only recent changes ANet has made were either nerfs (vampiric master, putrid explosion, training of the master) or game breaking bugs (flesh of the master), and it is obvious which one would be better.

So turret > minions simply because one have had their issues fixed and the other has had issues tacked on.

Well on the topic, the minion master build I run in sPvP kills turrets and the engineer that goes along with it easily. So MM wins that Also I can’t always beat more than one player at once but I can stay alive for a good deal of time while I get pounded on.

So I can effectively neutralize two or three enemy players in sPvP by wasting their time while my team takes care of capping other points or taking out the other members of the enemy team in the meantime.

Haha, no.

Even putting aside the fact that a bunker warrior will just get knocked off point and have his point neutralized, they are destroyed by ranged dps since they lack wall of reflection like guardian has. Very susceptible to burst damage too. Thief or power ranger or shatter mes will have him off the point in no time at all…Or he’ll just die on it.
They could grab block reflect and equip shield+mace…but that’s just disgusting and sacrifices so much for a little extra ranged defense…Guardian does it so much better for much less investment.

Shatter mesmer isn’t something you can los. Maybe a ranger is, but since your damage is going to be so poor as a bunker, i’d say they could zerker you in melee anyways. But again, you’re hardly a good bunker if you can only handle a 1v1, which is the only circumstance where los is possible…if you want to keep your point.

A good guard can handle a 2v1 situation for at least a little while. Leave a warrior against a ranger or mesmer and any other class, and they’ll be dead soon after their endure pain wears out. Thief would solo them no problem.

To add onto that, I almost never see banner warriors these days, while bunker guards are commonplace. Even that crappy GS/LB build is more common.
