Turret Engineer
nice b8, m8 I r8 8/8.
No seriously, can we please keep this discussion productive and stop throwing out obvious flamebait?
The mob has spoken and the turrets shall be burnt at the stake.
Why does this thread even exist? There’s already a thread talking about the nerfs that are coming to turrets…

OP? No!
Sucking all the fun out of PvP? Yes!
Are the nerfs only in 6 months when they release expansion?

Most likely… you know how they love to move at a glacial pace. I mean.. I wouldn’t mind waiting another month or 2 at the most.. just as long as it’s done correctly.
If the dev’s have already been running builds on the test server, it’ll most likely be sooner. It’s why many of us are out in force and enjoying what little time our Engi build’s have left.
Well, you know, if they really wanted a hotfix, they could just temporarily remove sentinel amulet from the game until they have turrets sorted out.
It would be sufficient, because my turreteer generally falls down to perilously low health, when being attacked by 2 players, who know what they are doing.

It’s funny you mentioned two people and not one person who knows what he is doing.
Anyways, it’s somewhat satisfying to see all the tears of turret engis, go on.

Try to 1v1 a bunker guardian on point and see, how it goes.
And don’t play any of the builds, which were driven out of the meta by shoutbows, because then you might actually win(hint, hint)

The difference between a bunker guard and a turret engi is that guard actually does little damage and it’s only a matter of time when he dies even 1v1 as long as you’re using a dps build. Your point being?

My point is, you still need to bring 2 players to clear the point. That’s the whole point of bunker builds. The only difference is the damage, a turreteer can put out, which admittedly is a bit too high. So the easiest way to fix turrets both in PvE and PvP would be to have them scale with stats. Bunker turreteer would not wreck everyone and thieves could at last join in on the 2v1 fun, while turrets might become viable in PvE, too.
Most importantly, instead of a witch hunt, we get a meaningful solution.

A meaningful solution? Do you think it’s been meaningful to have turret engis dominate the leaderboards because it’s so braindead you can farm games while being afk? The only problem isn’t the damage it can put out, but also the fact it has way too high gain for almost no effort. And no you don’t need two people to kill a bunker guard, you can manage to do so alone. Also, bunker guard doesn’t depend on AI and just randomly dodging till his turrets do their job. Of course, there could have been better solutions to fix turrets, but I’m pretty happy they came up with this one because it’s pretty likely the damage reduction wouldn’t have been enough. Turret engi is by far the most annoying spec to ever fight, people avoid them and it’s really not making the pvp scene any better, quite the opposite. It’s just not fun. So are they overnerfing them? Maybe yeah. But I can tell you that turret engi build out of few I don’t really mind being overnerfed.

So which of the current meta builds can solo a bunker guard before defensive rotations arrive?
As I said, condi engi, trapper ranger, etc don’t really count because they have been pushed out of the meta by shoutbows. All the other meta builds except for celestial rifle don’t have the tools to kill a bunker guard on their own.
Also, about that whole “dominating the leaderboard” thingie:
You can’t play brain afk as a turret engi unless you stack 3-4 turreteers in a single premade stack. And the only way to reliably win this way is to show up with something else and switch in the turreteers before the match starts.
It’s more of a problem with abusing the system than abusing a single build, honestly. Even massed turret engis can be held in check with the correct answers. A large part of the problem is, that turret builds are actually the only build which stacks to such a degree in multiples… But nothing, a couple frost bows couldn’t solve. However, this would also change with turrets dealing less damage. Even with massed turrets, if they don’t deal a lot of damage, they are no real threat.

sigh, You can’t farm games in ranked while being AFK. Go ahead and try, let’s see how you do with that. The mostly likely result would be the thing getting farmed is you.
I just ran my thief for a few matches since it was the daily. It’s still a slower pacing and less frenetic than on my Turret build. In my last ranked match alone I wrecked a Turret Engi 1v several times. It took only a matter of maybe 8-10 seconds to do so. The Engi kept back capping our home and failed to hold it even with all his Turret’s in place.

Any dps build can take down a bunker guard 1v1, it’s just a matter of time as I said before. The difference is that guard would need reinforcements, turrets don’t because it’s that stupid. Dps builds have issues with turrets if they can’t range them, which is pretty obvious.
Obviously saying you can afk is exaggerating, but it doesn’t change the fact ranked and ledder is floaded with turret engis. It’s the easiest spec you can play in the game, while rewarding way too high for basically nothing. This shouldn’t be promoted. You can argue as much as you want, but if you just learned how to play the game, your time would be spent better. It’s pvp, not some pve dungeon.
Or you can cry more, it’s definitely entertaining.

Bunker guardian have no dps….on the other hand you DO (insane dmg with turets).
Edit: I am glad that they are hammering tureteers with nerf. Let’s see how many “pro” engies can adapt to this.

I want to share this by a engineer player and want to say: this “turret nerf” will not solve the problem at all. Like i say to many times; the main problem is in their traits: not only in their turrets.
See here as evidence: A true engineer will laugh at this “turret nerf”as a joke and they know it.
No Celestial adjustments: nerf, no change to Engineer being OP.
Good Luck to Turret Engineer “nerf”

Your arguments are still invalid, because the only raw dps builds, which can’t win a 1v1 against a turret engi in reasonable time are builds of the thief class… Which also aren’t the strongest against bunker guards. And Meditation Guardians, but even though they run zerk, you can’t really call them raw dps builds. They still fall into the same niche as celestial builds.
All the other raw dps builds can rip a turreteer a new one… Longbow ranger, shatter mesmer, zerk staff ele, powermancer, … All of these can kill a turreteer in a 1v1. Some of them do far better in a 2v1, though. Many of them in fact have an easier time clearing a turreteer off the point than brawling it out with a bunker guard. And all of them were driven out of the meta by celestial builds.
As for the reason, thieves can’t win against turreteers, that much won’t even change after the nerf. A thief will be able to range down turrets with cluster bombs, which will in turn prompt turreteers to use even more floating turrets.
The reason, thieves have such a bad matchup, which is something, I can tell you from experience, because I main thief, is simple. Thieves rely on stealth, blinds and shadowsteps. Quickly closing in the distance, making the opponent unable to react, suddenly popping up out of nowhere… And the turrets will take nothing of this crap. If you shadowstep next to a thumper, it will throw you out of the ring instantly. If you appear out of stealth next to a thumper, it will throw you out of the ring just as fast. Blinding the turrets won’t work currently and it won’t work in the future, too. You may defeat a single turret with blinds but you won’t defeat a whole defense grid. Blind the thumper and the rocket turret nails you, blind the rocket turret and the engi nails you.
As a thief, I have come to accept the fact, that I won’t ever be able to 1v1 a turret engineer and that I won’t be able to 2v1 him in certain compositions, because turrets are just so strong against me. I still don’t cry, because thieves have something, the turreteer lacks completely: Mobility. The turreteer may clamp down the point, but as a thief, I will clamp down the entire map.
The mob has spoken and the turrets shall be burnt at the stake.
