I was just playing a match of pug sPvP, our team is doing great, almost won, then all of a sudden I get the loading screen and…. I’m on the other losing team?
What the pancakes? Is this some kind of “auto-balance”?

I oppose this “feature” with all my might.

Autobalance certainly angers everyone to a great extent. It often triggers because someone ragequits on the opposing team since they’re losing so badly, so one of the winning players ends up losing because of it. I’ve had multiple games where I’ve been the top player on my team only to get swapped over at the very end of the match.

Autobalance should be removed. However, in its place, players should get a very slight glory bonus per kill or capture if they decide to switch teams.

I’m ok with autobalancing so long as you still get a glory bonus for being swapped to offset possibly losing the win bonus as a result.

ya i think you should keep the glory youve accumulated from the other team, maybe get a small bonus if you volunteer to switch when the option comes up.

I’d say remove auto-balance completely.

If my team is winning, and I have helped to get us in a winning position, I do not want to be forced to help the team I have been working against.

If my team is losing, I really do not want one of the other sides players to ‘magically’ come to my team to help. I’ll take my loss and look forward to the next match!

I expressed these same thoughts in Beta as bug reports when I was auto-balanced off of teams.

The only thing you possibly lose is the 18 (36 with boost) glory for the win. Actually you have the chance to gain more, since you carry your match achievemnts over (most kills/rezzes, etc), so you usually even gain glory by getting switched to the losing team.

Winning don’t matter in hot-join guys. Don’t make a fuss about it

Removal of autobalance in hot-join would lead to a much worse scenario.

Losing 5 games in a row due to autobalance is a wee bit infuriating.

They just need to turn off the autobalance feature after a certain amount of time passes/points are scored. Say, the first 3 mins/100 points, before a match is decided.

If I’m going over to the other team because they didn’t start with enough/people left at the start of the match, fine. If I’m going over to the other team because a couple of them rage quit after I busted mykitten off trying to win? Yeah, I have a problem with that.

I think Anzaman hit the nail on the head – Why should I get punished when someone ragequits? Try to balance these hot join matches better so the matches are more even and fun so we see less raqequitting, and implement a penalty for quitting like in other games. It works well to encourage people to try their best to win with the team they have if they know they can’t queue again for 15 minutes after quitting. If I played well and helped my team win, I am not going to then go help my enemy – aside from getting less points, it’s a huge deflation in morale and fun factor because now everything I’ve just done has been against my own best interest – people are not hard wired to enjoy kicking themselves in thekitten after working their butts off. Aside from being absolutely infuriating, it’s a stupid solution to the problem. You know what usually happens when I get “auto balanced” to the enemy team because some other dude raqequit? I raqequit. Good system you have there.

This is nearing the final straw. All the other shortcomings pertaining to sPVP aside, this auto-balancing is extremely frustrating.

Remove it.

Nothing like playing on the winning team for 90% of the round, then being swapped to the losing team just before the end. Not only is this ridiculous, but it’s actually a punishment.

The losing team has little or no appreciation of the fact that a couple/few players were robbed of their victory and placed among the losers for the round. The only players who even notice this are the ones being yanked.

I can’t remember the last round I played where we were losing and I said to myself “What a relief, the auto-balancer has kicked in, we’re all good now!”.

At least you keep your points, just ignore playing the objectives and follow the herd owning eachother. You’ll end up with 150-250+ points regardless of being swapped. Win is only worth 45 and that’s only if you played enough of the match.

I’m sure its been said in this thread already by somebody else, but I saw another thread the other day about autobalancing and figure I’d say it again.

I do agree that being switched to the losing team near the end of a match when you’ve been on the winning team from the start can be frustrating. That being said, even if you do win several matches in a row, you aren’t netting most of your glory from the win bonus. It’s fairly minimal if you ask me. Most of your earned glory comes from your participation and success in the match itself.

Just my two cents.

It’s true that the glory boost is minimal from a win, but i’ve had it happen to me twice in one game, got over 200 points ahead got autobalanced onto the losing team, came back with that team and got ahead, got autobalanced back to my original team after just capping to points for the other side.

Needless to say i worked my butt off and got a ton of glory points just for the match itself, but it takes away the fun when you play 80-90% of a match, just to get swapped to the other team and have pretty much shoved your foot so far down your own throat you have to have surgery to get it back out.

As I said, it is frustrating, but I completely understand their reasoning behind it. Remember, sPVP is not about premade teams destroying pugs. It’s more about pugs vs pugs. Their entire reasoning behind it is in the title itself: autobalancing.

While you and I cannot control people disconnecting or quitting a match in progress, you have to understand that the balancing is done to keep games as equal as it can be (even if it means switching a player as a game is about to end). If you despise this feature completely, I can only recommend forming a team and playing in tournament mode instead.

It says “incredible”.

The point is sPvP is supposed to be fun for the people that don’t want to play competitively in tourneys. It’s not really fun to work for a win just to get handed a loss. You have to look at it from the perspective of the players that don’t go into sPvP with only the expectation of a zerg glory farm game. Casuals won’t be on the level of competitive players, and probably don’t really care if they win or lose a game, but to get slapped with a loss after (for a casual player) can be a hard fought victory, is just a slap to the face with no punishment for the, i’m in it only to farm glory WoW bg points attitude.

Of course casuals won’t be on the same level as highly competitive players, that’s well understood I thought. I don’t consider a loss in sPVP do to being switched to the losing team a slap in the face at all, after all sPVP is casual isn’t it? To each his own though.

If there are highly competitive players playing sPVP, I think they’re playing the wrong mode. There’s a reason tournament mode exists.

If you’re not playing sPVP for glory farming / ranking up, what else would you be playing it for? Aren’t we all playing sPVP to level up to rank 80, or at least trying to?

There are people that enjoy PvPing but don’t have the time to spend a week just grinding glory, or running tourneys to get good at the game. The casual players like this who only play for maybe 10-12 hours a week at the most probably get extremely annoyed when they work for what they think is a win, because they either a). Think that a zergfest is how it is supposed to be played, or b). don’t really understand why there zerg outdid the enemies zerg for them to actually win. Still though, reguardless of how your winning if you don’t play for long periods at a time and you constantly keep getting switched to a losing side by force, would you want to continue playing the PvP in that manner.

I understand where your coming from, there needs to be some way to balance the teams, but there should be some kind of limit at which teams get balanced. I’ve been in games where the team i was on had all the points capped and held, which requires more than a zerg, and when it’s like 400 to less than 200, and you get swapped, from the team you were just helping hold all 3 points, yeah, have that happen and see if you still don’t mind being swapped to the losing team.

Like you, I too have been switched at inopportune times. I’ve been switched when my team had 490 points in some instances. It happens. As I explained earlier, you and I both cannot control the other players deciding to leave the game. I am completely for the balancing of teams when this occurs.

Why would a loss bother you in sPVP anyway? Also, what kind of limit should be put in place to limit which team gets balanced? You understand that the only time auto balancing pops up is when the teams are uneven? How can you control which team is going to randomly lose a player or two?

Maybe you are suggesting that after a certain score, say, 450, the teams should no longer be auto balanced? I suppose that’s something to consider for ArenaNet, but I still feel that if the teams are uneven then they should be balanced.

It is just a game after all.

Said this after first bwe and I stand by it, Autobalancing needs to go, replace/add to current system normal queues like in all normal games, punish leavers for rage quiting.

What autobalance now does is promoting bad play and punishing good. Bad players leave game and “/care” about it, while these that did good and probably made other team leave by outplaying them badly get switched to losing team that is beyond of point of recovery.

Please stop punishing us for playing good, we are not working towards our team victory only to get pushed to losing team because they decided its not fun to lose.

Don’t start matches unless there are equal numbers in each team (again queue needed)

Don’t let players into room with even number of players unless even number tries to join(again queue needed)

Current system is flawed, even if its “casual” pvp, still should be fun and not frustrating because of some dumb /swear word/ “feature”

it is NOT about glory, it is about having fun winning.

The problem here is psychological I guess and I am totally backing the OT. If you work hard for the victory, you deserve to win. Guess what, not everybody plays Death-Match-Style Zerg & Kill games. Some people – like me – play for the team (yes, even in Hotjoin!!) and not for my Glory Points.

Casuals are not dumb. I consider myself casual as I can only play around 2h on weekdays, but can still understand and play the game perfectly fine. Have even won several tourneys.

On the subject, while auto balancing is frustrating, I rather have it than 8×3 matches. They should add an auto-balancing buff that provided 10% glory boost if you were moved to the other team (either by chance or volunteer)

Agreed, I would be willing to volunteer if I got a Glory bonus for taking the loss. It’s pretty annoying to get ported on the losing site right before you’re going to win, but I get top player every time… So it isn’t all that bad.
