I’ve been playing the game since the day it was released and I’m familiar with pretty much every aspect of the game. I’ve done my PvP enough to be a mediocre player and I’m currently rank 20.

Now forgive me if this has been brought up before(which it most likely have) but before the feature pack I did PvP too. I was always a bit on the edge when I lost a game and to then find out that my opponents was almost triple the rank I was and hence a lot more experience.

And it’s still like this.

What exactly are the ranks for if not to be implemented in a system where it can sort out more seasoned players against other seasoned players and not against newbies? I do also play CS:GO a lot and sometimes I can get a queue up to 10 minutes. Only to be matched up against equal opponents. Why does this game don’t have a similar system?

It’s so simple and yet so functional. I don’t mind a long queue if it will bring me “equaly” strong opponents. But I do not enjoy being slaughtered again and again and again. It’s simply not fun.

Let’s say like this.

From rank 1-79 the system matches me up with players from within 10 ranks from mine. That way it will be a fair matchup and at least a balance in teams(skillwise).

Then from rank 80 it will matchup depending on W/L ratio. That means players who win more often will meet the same, vice versa and hence creating equal matchups.

Don’t face me against rank 80’s only 10 sec after I join queue. That’s a joke of a system.

You’re absolutely right and this is a common complaint.

Rank has gotten out of hand as a measurement of skill. It’s now just an indication of how much time you’ve put into PvP. In other words it should show some level of compentacy (a rank 40 should know more than a rank 20), but we have rank farming servers so even that’s not as true as it should be.

Anet has admitted there is a hidden MMR but why it’s hidden is beyond me. Then again it’s obviously broken.

This is a very common complaint that the devs seem to not really care too much about. They think it’s more important for you to be thrown into a match, even if there’s a huge discrepancy between you and the people you face, guaranteeing a loss. Because what would you do if you had to wait in the queue? Play the rest of the game? That’d be torture!

But these are the same people who keep Skyhammer in solo queue and can’t think to add “do not exploit bugs” to tournament rules, so don’t expect a fix for this any time soon.

Sadly this seems to be true.
If there’s something more important than class-balance it would be good team balance. I don’t have the faintest idea how mmr is calculated here but exciting games with a close ending and long team-fights are very rare. Ranks aren’t shown anymore obviously to cover up the crappy team-compilations where a lvl1 and a lvl60 player gets matched against two lvl30 players but you’ll still instantly notice when you have newbies in your team. (I know that rank usually isn’t meaningful but a lvl1 player obviously can’t be good at playing PvP and will harm the team way more than a lvl60 player benefits it)

I’m also playing other mmorpgs and there’s nothing more frustrating than getting teamed up against obviously better players or playing together with people who have no idea what they’re doing. I don’t even care about OP or UP classes – as long as they’re as good as I am (in terms of mmr) I can win against them.

These crappy team-compilations in addition to afkers or 4v5 kills the fun way more than OP classes so I’d love to see something done here.
Maybe they should remove hotjoin so you have a larger pool of differently skilled players to pick from. Maybe even put s/tPvP together and only match premades against soloQers when they would be waiting for too long to find other solo-players with simliar MMR.
Good example would be LoL. Intelligent MMR, different leagues, premades are usually matched against premades and you can even pick a role before joining a team.

In other games, longer queue times = more equally matched opponents, here the opposite is true. If you have a 10 min+ queue time almost 90% of the time you are paired with and against opponents that aren’t close to your own lb ranking.
