Underwater PvP
Doubt it, they can hardly balance the game without water combat. If they brough it back, it would probably take a few years before it was sort of balanced.
Oh god I hope not, underwater is horrible. It had so much potential but its poorly balanced and doesn’t work at all with many classes current builds (pve and pvp). As stated above with Anets ability+time to balance it would take years to get to even tolerable.
May this never see the light of day again.

It’s no worse than having courtyard in a rotation for conquest maps, I say bring it back.

I wish they’d bring back RoC without the water components. I enjoyed the side point fights. I’m sure they could do something interesting for the point that was previously underwater.
Just make it a hotjoin only map, boom, done. Didn’t need to be removed. I like to play on badly designed maps for fun, I do it all the time on TF2, that’s what games are meant to be right? Fun?

they don’t want us to have fun.
they want us to learn how to play 5 vs 5 conquest mode.
the original 8 vs 8 official hotjoin servers were great chaotic fun.
then they removed them, saying that they want the players to learn actual 5 vs 5 conquest mode and not 8 vs 8 hotjoin mess.
the fact is, a lot of people still do not know how to play 5 vs 5 conquest mode properly.
instead, players learned how to use spectator mode to join the winning team and screw the losing team repeatedly.
An entire underwater map for wvw would be awesome. Eternal battlegrounds underwater
I don’t know about an entire map, but a bit here and there would be definitely be fun. I hope they revisit underwater combat sometime in the future, and streamline it (perhaps by getting rid of underwater only weapons and getting our land weapon skills to work underwater).
Been asking for a fully underwater map (in any game mode, honestly) for forever now.

put each tower on an island. All water in between.
i dont see why courtyard is there but raid on the capricorn isnt.
just take it out of the ranked rotation if so many people hate it. i personally love underwater combat.
Personally I wouldn’t mind RoC in unranked. Even though I’m sure underwater combat is super unbalanced. Ill just stay on land away from all the sharks
I’m glad so many people feel this way. Maybe there’s a chance of underwater combat coming back in some form. I loved the dynamic of fighting through land and water seamlessly.
I would love to see it return; however, it will be too much work for the developers:
1) Re balance of skills
2) Addition of the weapon in the build gui
3) Water skills being added for PvP builds

Ye sure, only some classes have 80% of skills unavailable underwater.

Well, couldn’t they get those skills to work underwater as well? They’ve made previously land-only skills work under water before.
It sounds like a lot of work, but isn’kitten better alternative to giving all 9 classes each 2 sets of underwater weapon skills? When you factor in traits, runes, and sigils its a nightmare to balance.
So, just get all the normal, land only weapon skills (and utility skills) to work underwater. Wouldn’t that solve a lot of the headache (i.e., the three points Wolfey mentioned: (1) re-balance of skills; (2) the need to add water weapons in GUI; (3) water skills for PvP))?
The only wrinkle to this is perhaps some tech limitations that wouldn’t allow for some skills to work underwater. I don’t know. But I’m sure some work-around could be done in those instances to get the skill to function underwater proximately close to the way it functions on land.
The only other alternative is what seems to be the status quo now – bag underwater all together.
WoW is 10+ years old and the abilities/skills all work underwater… why not GW2?
If ANet is gonna push for some kind of pro-competitive scene, that’s fine. Develop some arena style maps with no water for that purpose.
The rest of us regular folks who PvP for fun enjoy a splash of water here and there—it livens things up and adds a fun dynamic to the game.
And even in PvE, some of the most memorable moments of exploration for me involved swimming underwater underground to discover points of interests.
Water is cool. Water is beautiful and I’d like to be able to interact more with it. No other MMO offers me the opportunity to do so the way GW2 did, and in many ways, still do.
I’ll hold out hope that perhaps there will be an expansion after the next that fully embraces the depth and freedom and beauty of water the way HoT seeks to expand or express the themes of height, layers and verticality in the context of a vast jungle.
TLDR
In a single sentence then… underwater combat doesn’t need to be perfectly balanced, it just needs to not be horrendously broken so people can have fun.
