Hello everyone,

I would like to propose the idea of making the coming Single Round Free Tournaments the unofficial soloq/duoq. Since Arenanet at this point has not provided us with one, we will have to gather up and create one ourselves.

Basicly this is made possible due to the fact that it has its own rating apart from the 3 Round Free, so teams will not be affected in their overall rating by queuing in the soloq.
We make it the unspoken rule that you queue up as one or two players as in most soloq environments in other games.

The only downside I see to this is at the start teams might possibly suffer from longer queues due to the 8 team requirement but in the end soloq will bring forth numerous new teams and that way it will no longer be an issue.

Instead, we’ll have 1-round Free Tournaments and 3-round Free Tournaments. Both of these tournament types will use a separate rating for the purposes of matchmaking.

Arenanet, how about you guys don’t force us to do this workaround? Just lock the option of being able to grab a team in the 1 round one, (optimally allow us to grab one friend) and then make the 3 round free into 1 round with premade allowed, both with matchmakings! With that we have the system we’ve wanted since beta!

Still, until that is implemented this is a great idea for both the solo players and the teams and Curse supports it completely, if the community also backs up this idea we’ll never que in the 1 round as our team c:

While the proposal is a good one, I still don’t see how going back to a 3-round tournament is even considered by Anet, when they actually moved away from it so that queue pops would be more frequent in the first place.

If we split it in solo and group queues, we’ll see the same issues we saw before, except that there are probably going to be even less pops.

How hard would it be for devs to allow only solo or duo queue for this kind of tourneys?

I think I can say in behave for my team we support this too, Denshee.
As Curse, we would also not queue for 1-round paids if your idea takes fruit.
But are both queues really seperated rating-wise ? Oo
( Would make sense if they just moved the rating for paids to that 1-round frees )

It is a possibility yes, would be great if anet just brought us two 1 round queues. One for soloq and one for teamq. But as it is not in the patch we might as well try catch their attention for a soloq with the community making its own one. This will hopefully show them the importance of it.

I thought about it as well but if the 3 round map will be the soloq it will turn out as a afk party. Where the first map will be played and second map will come down to who has the team of 5.

Why not? If all the strongest teams are in the 3round que then why wouldnt you as a competitive team strive to play versus us?

It’s too bad we couldn’t have had 1-round solo queue and 1-round team queue. I don’t think this would be to terribly different from the current system, with the exception of introducing the logic that prevents teams from joining the solo queue. What we are getting now though is a step in the right direction, and I like it for that.

That said, I don’t think any unofficial soloq choice will work. I’m willing to follow through with it, but it’s highly likely the 3-round tournaments will have rather low turnout.

Let me just say that NA and EU are totally different.

I can count on one hand the number of good teams in NA, maybe even just on my first 3 fingers. It was hard enough to get a Q pop in 3 round tournys, why would anyone want to go back to that? Using a 1 round system the rewards are quicker ( not better, quicker, more throughput so to say), The q’s are quicker, and you adjustability is better.

What I mean by that, is lets say we pick up someone who is just trash. Awful, but we win anyways, we can throw him out after the game and replace him. In a 3 round tourny we have to deal with him for the next 2 rounds. ( this isnt a big deal , just a random thought to add to the argument :P )

But the biggest thing for me is Q times. Nobody wants to wait to play. But I feel maybe a weekly 3 round tourny like what was originally intended would be pretty nice.

It’s quite different in EU.

err… wasn’t that the hole point for these change? A-net stated that the the dual / triple queued teams would face each other due to the matchmaking system. So what you are suggesting IS actually the reason why this is being implemented in the first place.

I mean things are getting better, slowly, but surely. I think the changes that were made will help, but we definitely don’t need to be telling people to play 3 rounds again, not yet, at least.

Fully support this idea, if we can get enough people on board maybe this can be an unofficial fix. Also might help Anet speed up the implementation of an official solo/duoQ.

I like the idea but anet probably won’t as they are trying to see what the map specific meta is. It’s hard to get that data from solo ques. But hopefully after they are happy with their data they can make 1 rounds an actual solo/duo only que.

No for a bunch of reasons. Its not my job to do A-nets job nor do I want to be forced into longer tournaments that take longer to pop. Never mind the fact that only a small percentage of the player base even comes to this forum. I mean I could go on really. Basically to sum it up it won’t work. If what A-net says is true and they will try to match up solo’s with solo’s first that should be enough for now. Baby steps.
