Hot join is a random join to try out new builds with the ability to leave or see what other people are doing. Unranked is for those new people to try out those builds in a competitive atmosphere. Ranked is for the quote om quote serious players.

If you play unranked assume to see new people and dont be a doush. I bring this up because i joined a unranked game and this very toxic guy on our team was hating on 2 players since they didnt know what they were doing. They said there were new to pvp. They were all doing this in map chat btw. I went to say to this individual that they were ok and he shouldnt be here if he was so good.

I actually believe the opposite. Unranked is to test things out and hotjoin is for new people.

Of course it doesn’t. However it’s good way for newbies to learn basics about skill rotations to maximize dmg etc before they enter PvP.

What do you think PvE players really do when starting the game?

I didn’t really know about combo fields until I got heavily into WvW. Most PvErs will only teach new players zerk builds and minimum stuff.

Of course you won’t learn everything you need to learn for PvP in PvE, but you will learn the rock bottom basic mechanics of the game and your class in an easy and safe environment without having to worry about team-mates.
Diving straight into PvP after buying the game is just a recipe for disaster, especially when you consider how different GW2 is from every other MMO.

I’m guessing a lot of the current top players didn’t PvE much at the start of the game.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong new players going into hotjoins or unranked and learning there. I still see tons of players that have no idea what conquest mode really is about in ranked that have played for awhile.

It’s also better that new players poke about spvp so they can maybe get their questions answered by experience people.

While it is somewhat true, but why are there dragon-rank pre-mades in unranked who just 500-30 stomp everyone.

So new people should be either be playing with other new people (and well, Anet doesn’t have a mechanism for that yet) or be ready to get some salt from people who are (for some mmr reason) are thrown in with them.

Yeah, solo queue was a toxic bunch (not everyone of course but a large number). This failed new system just pulled them into the overall unranked and ranked matches making the environment bad for everyone. Why hasn’t ANET taken any action on the people who get reported for verbal abuse? Remove the option if you are going to be too lazy to do anything about it.

That said, I disagree that unranked is for new players. New players can play in any of the game modes. The problem is that the new matchmaking is a total fail right now. It is matching new players with top players. That isn’t fun for anyone.

We really need to just admit the old system was better. Bring it back.

My comment about solo que players has to do with the solo que mentality and nothing about the que-ers as a whole. I also solo que a majority of the time and i expect to go into matches with either qued teams or new players in both ranked and unranked. Im sorry but everyone in the game and on this forum who was a solo que hero has negative things to say all the time.

No PvE is not where you learn your build. No WvW is not where you learn your class. You learn to fight vs other players in practice and work on your craft there. Unranked is where you go to test your skills as a new person/ cant deal with the competetive nature of ranked/ not good enough to play in ranked. Thats how it should be and just like here people take the idea of what they want it to be and say its law.

If you were a great basketball player in h.s you go to college. If your good in college but not great you stay in college. You never just jump to the pros and thats suppose to be rank. Unranked should not be toxic and its for the people who want to compete in a team setting. Hot join or practice doesnt help people with a team mind set of winning matches. You unfortunately have people who abuse the system since they dont want there leaderboard win% to be affected so they can talk about there win percentage and demand a leaderboard fix even though they play in unranked when they should of qued for rank.

Once again im not saying all solo que players, im talking the solo que heros. You will very rarely get full teams talking smack since they expect to win.

I dont think the leaderboard will ever be right because many people like you said que up in unranked when they only have 3 people of there 5 man team in unranked. I have mad respect for alot of these former number#1 leaderboard guys who are solo queing in ranked.
