Or more specifically bad play.
I recently made a new F2P account to level a toon for another wvw server and spent time in PvP with it. I’ve never played in unranked, desiring serious PvP play as well as disliking the map options that come with it. Obviously to play on a new account in PvP I’m forced to endure unranked for 20 pvp levels. Anyway one thing I noticed while I played was how a map like Spirit Watch lead players to pursue bad habits in a game mode that is otherwise conquest. Instead of focusing on capping points, holding them, and rotating as needed, the design draws the uninitiated away from the primary objective to deerrp off point around the orb which, incidentally, is right outside the spawn.
Then I watch as players join in ranked and repeat these bad behaviours. Now I known they’ve been fostered by design by the Devs, no doubt unintentional, lack of foresight -_-u

What? … You can go Unranked with F2P? I though they only could use the game browser and join, that is bad.
Anyway. I think you have to account for that your F2P account gets teamed with new players sincce your account is new. That could be a reason for bad games.
I play Unranked now and then and most of the time there are nice fights.
Playing ranked with a brand new character is about the same, just longer queue times. You are just stuck playing with all the new players that have no idea how to SPvP works.
They should make it so when you open the PvP menu hotjoin is the first option that pops up, it would rally help filter out some of the bad players.
As said above, it’s not just unranked that has bad players. Oftentimes I’m left to cap/hold points alone when my team goes off to fight in a huge blob, often outside of points. If they fight on the points, they’re usually running for the other team or neither side.
And don’t get me started on the treb users on Kyhlo. Sometimes they stay on the treb the entire game and hit a player maybe twice during it by pure luck.
Some sort of filter for new (and bad) players is sorely needed.
It’s quite useless to discuss this now when leagues come with HoT. So new players start at the first league and get stuck after a certain point if they are bad. As experienced player you “endure” the first leagues and then meet up with equally skilled players in later leagues.
In theory this should solve all the problems. Hopefully they make the mm (regarding the class, team-size) better and implement a solo-q as well.
I that too and I must lulz at my experience so far.
I know how sPvP works but I must admit, a lot of the time I go in to unranked and play like an imbecile. I don’t really care about winning in those situations. I just want to bash some skulls in.
Yeah, to me, my personal version of hell is either being forced to play skyhammer/spirit watch/courtyard for the rest of eternity, or to be on Boston’s Green Line of the T for the rest of eternity. Both are easily as uncomfortable as the other.
RAnk as well.. whats ur point?

….that bad forms and precedent set out in unranked (certain maps particularly) leads to bad players playing badly in ranked -_-u
You can very easily lose a game on Spirit Watch by not contesting the orb and letting the enemy have their way with it. At the same time you can very easily lose by focusing too much on the orb and not enough on the capture points. A new player with a low MMR is not going to know how to balance their attention between the two, but I wouldn’t say knowing you need to go after the orb is a “bad habit”, and certainly not one that translates to the maps that don’t have the orb mechanic at all.
At the very least it isn’t any worse than the habit of going for a Lord Rush as an opening move in Foefire all alone, which is a thing that happens far more than it should.
Different maps require different strategies to succeed. Requiring different strategies makes the gameplay less dull and repetitive. I play almost exclusively unranked because I like having things mixed up now and again.
It’s really unfortunate that the two maps that require the most teamplay are on the pvp mode that has the most soloq.
It’s more unfortunate that PvP doesn’t have a decent tutorial.
I mean you can teach them how to stomp, cap etc… but there’s no actual guide to good PvP macro level strategy.
That’s something Anet could easily do a series on and publish with the help of the E-Sports dev team (or whatever name they want to go by).

How is that bad? Do you want new player’s first experience with pvp to be 5v3 one sided zergfest mess?
It’s not the tutorial the problem. The problem is the game mechanics does not allow any kind of mistakes. We went threw all this already in other threads. In this game, any kind of mistakes you make or if a player DC.. or bad map rotation, the game is done! or next to impossible to come back to.

Show me currently in our great tutorial where the concept of map rotations are covered ?
From a base level of PvP the tutorial is complete and utter garbage. All it goes to show you is how to interact (badly at that) and how to stand in a circle.
It does not stress the fundamentals needed to succeed in PvP, that’s the real problem.

Not even my point.. learn to read.
Point is, you cant make any mistakes in spvp cuz the game mechanics is not forgiven. If you don’t agree, that’s fine.
