Unranked matchmaking, is it so bad?

Wow. That video… never have in had or faced people that bad ever. That must be some srs bad luck with the mm.

A close score doesn’t equal a fun and competitive match.
If a close score doesn’t equal a competitive match what does?
Fighting with and against players close to your skill level. And no that doesn’t always result in a close score.
Maybe you’re just way too good?! lol….sorry but a close score shows the “teams” were equally matched in skill and strategy. It may not be “fun” per your original statement but common sense would dictate that it is in fact competitive.
True, equally skilled players matched together doesn’t always result in a close score but that’s mostly due to costly mistakes.

Alright, I will do a quick example. Let’s say we have two teams. Each team has two Pro League players of equal skill, the other 6 players in the game are first timers. Will the score be close? Probably. Will the people playing enjoy that “competitive” match? I’m not sure we are using that word in the same meaning.

That’s a fair even match though. The 2 good players on each team have to lead and let the other 3 people know what to do, so the best leader and strategist wins and deserves to. When you have a full team of newbies like we did in last season vs a full team of non newbies that’s not a fair match and no 1 learns anything from being slaughtered repeatedly, and I’m sure most of them quit pvp by now, who would enjoy such meaningless, senseless insanity…….
How is that fair? The better players have to try that much harder to carry the rest of the team. That’s like the game punishing you for being good.
“Oh you’re a good player, here you go have 4 useless allies and now carry them! Make sure you rotate furiously, kill everybody and secure all 3 nodes yourself!”
You’re basically encouraging MMR tanking so that you can get wins by letting other people carry you
Umm what you just said makes absolutely no sense & sounded very silly so I’m not even gonna respond >.< But if you do want easier wins where you don’t have to try that much wait for ranked it’ll be back soon.

No, there isn’t a single game that is decent in unranked – I get people that has no idea how to play conquest, sure it varies some people can actually play tiny bit decent but most of the time they have no clue whats going on and even if the games can get close at times the actual match itself is so bad in quality It’s a pain to queue or stream

It’s just as silly as your Unranked is fair, because I just described unranked.
Unranked favors bad players since they get carried.
Yea what you described is something you made up in your mind, it’s not actually real that’s why I didn’t wanna respond… From what I experience you have to try in unranked not get carried like in ranked where you farm newbies all day and a couple people in ur team can afk and you’d still win by a land slide. Some matches in unranked are bad but there’s a whole lot more good, fair, competitive therefore fun matches in unranked than in current ranked imo.(Some completely new players who never stepped foot in pvp and had no idea how to play it made it to legendary last season simply because they were lucky enough to get put on the team with mostly experienced players while farming entire teams of newbies, that’s what I call getting carried)

It’s more real than your claims of "completely new players who never stepped foot in pvp and had no idea how to play it made it to legendary last season simply because they were lucky enough to get put on the team with mostly experienced players ".
I’ve heard that story before but I’ve never seen any proof. Whereas the unranked stuff I mentioned is what actually happens to a fair few of us.

I hope you are joking..
You’d be posting proof if you had any.
Fishball is right. Statistically, higher MMR players will be put with lower ranking or newbie teams in Unranked because the match making program is looking to make comparable teams with the same average MMR so any combination of MMR is possible on the same team. In Ranked, it was just based on your PIP level so at some point, higher MMR players would only face high MMR players.
So while a few people got to legendary by grinding, it wasn’t like it was throwing sapphires or ambers on your team. Also I believe I read last season that Unranked MMR decays so if you didn’t play for a few months due to Seasons, your MMR tanked a bit which hurts higher tier players.
However, Unranked is basically Hot Join and I think that’s the complaint. It does keep queue times low though..

lol, what a bunch of nonsense (not attacking the OP, just his logic). So. don’t take this personally, first, you are clueless as to how ranked worked; And second, whatever you are experiencing in unranked is due to a Low player pools, daily chasers and folks not caring about umranked (i.e no pip loss). The unranked algorithm is miles better than S2 ranked.
@fishball, there is enough proof on these forum, all you have to do is use the search tools. And, if you can find an iota of truth in someone else anecdotal experience, then…. But i won t argue with you on it because Anet/ seth/ or any competitive pvp player know that anyone with an above average or high MMR was garanteed a spot in legendary. Lets not forget why helseth left gw2, he didnt leave after S1

So you have no proof but he said she said. Gotcha.
I’ll wait while you dig up this mythical never played PvP before but got carried to legendary person you speak of.
last time i check, only losers complains on forum… So yeah, i wouldn’t expect someone who smooth walked through legendary to complain on the forum… but i know some casual players, hardcore pv er reached legendary and i had one on my guild…
I wish i was that ignorant(talking to myself) though, opinions man!!
you can always check this thread, lmao .. i ll add more thread later

It’s cute you’re trying to defend Unranked as a good system after those hilarious Heselth videos which showed otherwise.
I mean I don’t even like Helseth but man had a point and here you guys are trying to argue with hyperboles and petty insults to justify your obviously wrong viewpoints.

Maybe because those videos were released after S1??,i can tell you are confused, i am not defending unranked, just stating facts. As it stands, the unranked algorithm is more competitive than the S2 algo.
About the petty insults, i have enough infraction point on my account, can you please tell me what you found insulting so it can be edited. Thanks, and that wasnt my attention at all, so i would happily edit, whatever you found insulting.
Thanks again

Simply put:
Unranked is set to make sure you have a 50% win/loss ratio. Ranked is like survival of the fittest. So yeah, people are going to have different opinions of each queue depending on how they define competition.

The problem comes when your team doesn’t listen to your advice, and strategy and that happens a lot. It is infuriating.
Then you also have language barriers, and simply without being rude (because I’m not), it makes it nigh impossible to communicate if your team doesn’t speak English (and I only pick English because it is the world’s language) and that’s a completely different point.
I still prefer ranked over unranked any day and I enjoyed out of any division Ruby best, with the closest matches and fun, dedicated, communicative players who knew how to call target, rotate, knew when to support, watched the map, and all those things most people seem to completely ignore.

You are wrong, every competitive game uses a 50/50 algorithm. Ranked last season, wasn’t survival of the fittest, it was 66% hot join and 33% competitive . You had 3 ways to progress ( 5 vs 5 10 vs 1 or 1 vs 10, in short X vs X). I agree, people are going to have different opinions but at least make sure your opinions are based on facts. You still dont know how the S2 algorithm worked (or you wouldn’t have called it survival of the fittest). And please, do your research on the S2 algorithm

unfortauntely this happens a lot, even in PvE. People just flat out ignore their team mates. The amount of times I’ve been in a team, some of us agree who’ll go close etc, only for someone to then follow the person going to close and double cap.
Or people that won’t communicate at the beginning of a game, stay silent throughout, then if the team ends up losing, they finally say something in team chat, insulting the team. I’m sure people are half asleep whilst playing this game.
