Unstompable bug?
It’s a bug that sometimes happens. I don’t know whether one can deliberately cause it.
It seems to be lag related.
Basically they are not lying down on the location shown ingame. They can still be killed if you find the real location.
btw: They can’t be rezzed too, so also a disadvantage.

Hmmmmm, interesting. I guess it’s possible for lag to cause that… But I mean I wasn’t lagging at all, no one on my team looked like they were and they were also still able to be rezzed. :/
Something like that happened for me yesterday when a player in my team got downed, I was unable to rezz him and the other team seemed to be unable to stomp him… In the end he got beaten to death but it was very wierd.

The server sees the downed player in a different location than what it shows to the client. It happens all the time in WvW. Just another reason why downed state should be removed from the game.
You are not alone, I was in Foefire map and a necro was in downed state on the other team.
Couldn’t stomp him, was auto attacking but he kept healing despite us hitting him.
I have no idea what’s going on with this but I thought I was alone in this.
Needs to be looked at as it’s pretty game breaking, there were a few others on my team that tried.
The option to actually stomp didn’t even come up whilst this necro was down…
It’s lag, it’s because the player became desynced with the server, happens all the time in PvE places.

Mhm, definitely lag. when my internet is bad, sometimes I’ll down far away from people stomping. e.g. on Forest of Niflhel, I’ll down halfway down the stairs on mid, and see people all the way at the mid point trying to stomp me.
There may be a way to purposely recreate it, but I feel for the most part, it’s just people with bad connections
When I’ve seen this, it’s always a sync glitch. You can still stomp by moving a few feet in another direction. It’s easy to find out where the player is if you have a ranged attack and can see where it hits.
It probably happens more frequently to necros due to spectral walk is my guess.

it’s a bug/cheat. You cause lag as you are downed so your ‘real’ location is not where your body is in game. No one can stomp you unless they can guess where your real body ended up at. I seem it lots , luckily most of the time the cheaters are very bad players so it doesn’t really matter.
it is a known bug , not a cheat, and you can still stomp him if you are playing thief, just go to him ,press F and them use steal to teleport to his real location

Exactly this. It is desync. It happens when someone dies while moving in a movement/invuln skill. As for the Necro that this happened with, I’d almost guarantee he was using Runes of Vampirism, got bursted on, then downed from condis while moving in Mist.
Claiming this is some kind of cheat/exploit where dying players are ‘forcing’ server lag is ridiculous.

forcing client lag not server lag, it’s pretty easy to do. This is caused by client side lag nothing to do with the server.
When it happens, use an ability that will hit a target at range. Follow your projectile to the body (it will go to the real body, not the fake unstompable body). Proceed to dps the body.
Or, you can use a targeted gap closer to teleport/leap to the real location of the downed player. Then you just “attack the air” since it looks like the player is somewhere else.
I’ve seen this happen a few times think it occurs when a player is about to go down and gets knocked back. I have a video I’ll upload in a bit

I’ve had it happen with engineers more than anything. For a while I thought it was an engineer thing. Some skill making it harder to stomp. That’s when I made an engineer and discovered it wasn’t. I figured it was a bug but lag makes more sense.
It’s likely lag. I have two friends who’s internet is not reliable. I see this happening to them all the time, as I can’t rez them.
Also, lag can be deliberately caused. A quick internet search can tell you how and why.
