Along with the upcoming build we will be making some server side changes to tournaments. This may go live a bit before the build so I wanted to give some warning.
1) down time between rounds is being reduced from 5 minutes to 3 minutes.
2) Glory and rank rewards are increasing
Free
a) 1st place was 300, will now be 400 glory/rank
b) 2nd place was 200, will now be 300
c) 3rd and 4th place was 100, will now be 200
Paid
a) 1st place was 360, will now be 500 glory/rank
b) 2nd place was 240, will now be 400
c) 3rd and 4th place was 120, will now be 300
The changes to paid tournaments is kinda funny, considering we never had them in live :P I think they were only available for one beta (BWE2?) which wasn’t really stable.
Great to hear they’re going up, they were higher in beta and seemed really low since launch ~
Thank you!
EDIT: Just remembered the blog article had numbers, I suppose we were aware of them
I think the reward update went in but timer did not. I will check that this morning. Also due to the tournament code being heavily updated paid are disabled. There is a client crash we are tracking down and will examine data from tournaments overnight with the intention of enabling paid tournaments today and ASAP.
Im happy to see Anet bringing some cool updates, in regards to the waiting times between rounds I think that would be great if it coincided with a trait template update to help changing builds between matches as currently I am having to go to the heart of the mists for resetting traits every round. Thanks Jon have a great day
P.S Three minutes is good as people need to talk strategy, scout the other team maybe and grab a drink or go bathroom between rounds especially if you live in a mansion it takes minimum 2 minutes to get to the bathroom on the 4th floor
This crash does not reproduce on our test environment as it is caused in part by server load and player volume. That doesn’t mean that when it occurs we can’t fix it but it does mean it may not occur until it goes live. It is for reasons such as this that we turned off paid tournaments so that and unknown unforeseeable error wouldn’t cause players to lose gems.
@Vayyy
On top of that i think he is also refering to the fact that you can buy tournament tickets in the gem store and use them for paid. So if you do it that way you can lose “gems”.
“Also due to the tournament code being heavily updated paid are disabled.”
They clearly changed the code structure, and were not sure how it would react with live. To be on the safe side, they disabled paid to see how the new code faired.
Rightly so, gj Anet, just dont take too long to fix this.
Yeah it’s not like you would have to test stuff before you announced it to go live for weeks. Who could knew that anything could went wrong when all the other pvp features have been running so flawlessly since release.
Srsly Anet, you need to think about your promises before you do any.
This is how would you like to keep your PvP community alive?
Free tournament games are not for experienced players enough and we want a challenge.
This game has become boring.
Imagine the whines if people where getting repeatedly disconnected when the paid tournaments are finally out..
I can fully understand they wanna make sure it works right. But how will you test playerload and stuff without actually making us able to play it first?
