For a while I have been super frustrated with Warrior’s Down3 skill “Vengeance”. It’s just a useless skill, why even go for it when if pretty much gives your opponents a free rally? And why is it RNG that you fully rally even after killing a foe? It should be 100% rally if you kill a foe, just like a normal rally. Ofcourse there is a trait that does that, Discipline’s “Vengeful Return” But why would I waste a trait slot to make a useless situational skill less situational?

It got to the point where I thought Warr Down3 was the most useless skill in the game, like why even include it? What was the thinking behind it?

But I took a step back and looked at other Down3 skills, and it turns out most professions have useless Down3 skills.

5 Professions have useless Down3 skills (Rev, Warr, Mes, Ele, Necro)
3 have average Down3 skills (Thief, Engi, Guard)
1 has a useful Down3 skill (Ranger)

My definition and judgment of whether a down skill is ‘useful’, is how significantly it increases the possibility of being revived. For that reason, any down skills that do damage are effectively useless. Ofcourse I’m not even considering down2 skills here, which are MUCH more useful than down3 skills across the board. This is b/c down2 skills often reposition yourself, interrupt/kd/pull enemies, thus delaying being stomped, and thus giving your party more time/room to possibly revive you.

So any opinions on the proper usage of Down3 skills? And Is it EVER worth using down3 for the ‘useless’ category of professions (Warr, Rev, Mes, Ele, Necro)? Specifically Warr I would love to hear some good arguments for its usage, if that’s even possible.

Vengeance is by no mean pointless, but it is situational. You can use your little extra time to get one more shot at turning the tide of the fight. Sometimes there are multiple allies and/or enemies downed when you get downed, so vengeance allows you to rally, stomp or rez and even if you don’t rally at the end, you have helped your team greatly.

A full 100% chance rally would be possibly OP in PvE or WvW where you can have very many targets.

Many time on my mes skill 3 Ilusionary rogue helped me to put my oponent down and even to kill him. I only wish it would not be on cooldown when U’r in down state.

Necros down #3 is very useful sometimes, just the other day a thief downed me while at around 50% health herself. I was trying to disengage a far-point fight at Forest, and at very low health initially.

So anyway, she downed me but took some distance at the last second, probably anticipating a final shroud from the trait but as it happens I didn’t have that trait on. So I could hold off my fear a while longer, then used it to interrupt finisher, I hit that poison field squarely and they went downstate from that(from 50% hp). And as you know, necros downed AA trumps any other downstate AA.

I actually find thief and ele have the worst #3 skills. Thieves #3 usually just delays the inevitable and for ele the skill is just plain useless. For mes, rev and necro it atleast does some pretty good dmg, I’ve seen the rev skill even doing like 5k dmg.

Warrior #3 has actually pretty good play if u can hit it while an enemy is alrdy down, or nowhere near going down. In the 1st case, you can maybe score a kill at the very least and in the 2nd case, maybe help your team gain an advantage.

Engis have another CC there, guards can heal as can rangers, so those are rather good.

Yannir for males. (guard,thief,war,ele)
Sonya for females. (necro,rev,ranger,mes,engi)
All classes lvl 80.

I dont get it. Why would you even want to have useful downed 3?
Downed is downed. You have effectively been defeated. Why should you be allowed to do anything useful?
At this point you should be reliant on your team to get you back up.
Delaying the stomp via D2 is ok and usually has counterplay, but I dont see why you should be allowed to have more.
The worst designed downed skill is ranger 3 because it actually allows you to ress yourself and forces quick stomp or massive cleave.
Even if you interrupt the pet eventually returns and keeps ressing.
Dunno but once youre downed, you should no longer pose a threat or even get back up by yourself. Thats just wrong.

Warrior down 3 vengeance is the biggest gamble I have ever taken. It counts as being rallied, so if you went into down state consecutive times, you start with less health.
You cannot see the condi stacks on you to decide if you should vengeance, so you could be wasting your time with an insta death anyway.
If you kill someone but do not stomp, oh well.

Only time it has really been useful is if its a 1v1 and we both go down and I vengeance to stomp the guy and I get the rally percentage.
