Vanilla class help
Vanilla necromancer can work, but you need to play it well. I believe someone on EU got it to legendary last season. I think this is the build:

DaggerWarhorn/staff lich form well power necro
D+D sage ele
Mesmer duelist, dueling domination illusions
Thanks Exedore!
Could you provide links to some of those builds charchar?
I do enjoy playing Mesmer
Ill give more options, Vanilla Condi Engineer is also an option you can play too, it doesnt survive like the meta scrapper, but the big damage is guaranteed in that build.

This was going to be my suggestion, lol. It can be pretty fun if you get good at it!
Best combo:
1) Shield Bash / <weapon swap> / Kill Shot
2) Skull Crack / <weapon swap> / Volley
3) Brutal Shot / Rifle Butt / Kill Shot or Volley
4) <weapon swap> for Sigil of Agility proc / Battle Standard
From what I have seen, these vanilla-builds can be run pretty successfully:

…The Flamethrower-variant is inferior imo, since the weaponkit itself is completely useless and you only use it for the Toolbelt skill. Can run deadshot and scavanging rune as an alternative.
I think there is a somewhat viable version of Ham/bow warrior too, but since I dont have any experience with warrior, I don’t know about it.
I got tired of playing Hammer Scrapper in team fights where I can’t rely on my team, so I’ve been doing Flamethrower Engineer now. I use basically the same build as metabattle, but swapped the amulet to Deadshot. Also, with the buffs to flamethrower, I swapped the offhand pistol to shield. I thought it was going to be horrible, but the extra defense and cc made a huge difference. It’s been working great for me in gold division.
Thank you all for the suggestions!
So for the flamethrower engineer build…is the basic idea stack burning as much as possible, use the tool kit for interrupting/defense, and slicer for defense/stomps?

Its pretty much Kill your opponent before it kills you, your best defense is the offensive, the ft aa keeps dps pressure while your damaging skills are in cd, if you keep your oponent in defensive mode, you will win eventually, if its not, tool kit and elixir s have your back so you can escape safely
So I tried the vanilla necro build out and had a lot of fun!
I got ganked my first game when trying to capture home, but my second game we won and I went 16-0! I even went up against a flamethrower engineer and won!
I was hoping to get a little guidance on how to play the class, though. I’ve kinda just been mashing buttons and getting lucky while sticking close to teammates! Can anyone give the general idea and some combos? Some of the skills confuse me because they put condis on me lol
Not having HoT is a disadvantage, but not that big.
Vanilla necro seems fun to play, I just played a few matches and it looks good.
Out of other professions I can recommend Power Survial Ranger, GS/Hammer Warrior and Condi Shater Mesmer. Ranger is pretty great, with high DPS and can take a few hits, Warrior is really good overall, and Mesmer is so fun to play because of all the teleports and invisibility.
