Very dissatisfied with PvP-S2, and why
I’d like to add Anet’s continuous silence to the list. Not even an apology for messing this Season up to this glorious level.
Zenral….they already issued an apology statement under the form of cash shop sales. If you’re an oldschool player you should have noticed it.
That’s not an apology.
It’s a diversionary tactic. But yes, we’ve seen that before.
I was being sarcastic…
It doesn’t translate well in text. I thought so, but was just making sure…

Yeah were are the devs only excuse I can see them to ignoring us if they are in the dessert burying the guy that made that MM system….
I too am dissatisfied and saddened by S2. It’s extremely sad because GW2 has a great game engine and player base and time and time again Anet mismanages anything PvP related (WvW included) by making bad decision after bad decision. My hope for the future is slowly dwindling and I fear the best days of GW2 are not ahead, but far behind us.
Very dissatisfied with PvP, particularly this season 2.
Nobody likes to to lose, and it’s the way in which one loses that makes it most unpleasant;
…
yes, Scrapper/Reaper/Rev is a bit overtuned, but overall I like S2 a lot better because there is no more force 50% win rate.
Also, people need to understand that this is a competitive game mode. There will be winners, and there will be losers. If you don’t want to lose, you gotta play better. No one can change that except you.

there is nothing competitive about the season. 95% of matches are decided before the clock even counts down. and yes the season appears to working fine for you. grats on being on the + side of coin.

Oh, so what do you think we should do to make it fair? Remember, 10 players in the game, 5 win, 5 lose. Now make it so that no one complain?

ok since I don’t care anymore how bout you restrict the foes you fight to ones in your tier. should make for more even matches but will take longer to match them up. I’ve heard that the starting range is 15 pips /- and it gets wider from there. so if you are sapphire how is it competitive to face a team of people 15 pips ahead of you?

Cool, that’s not too bad of a suggestion. Make the initial match up 10+ pips instead.

The only problem with S2 is that terrible players can’t go down. They grind out progress in Amber winning once in a blue moon, and think this entitles them to better matches because they “climbed”.
It doesnt. You’re still bad. If these players were stuck in the early tiers of Amber, the match quality in the other newbie brackets would be much higher.
The ultimate irony being that the system designed specifically to allow bad players to make progress is also what they end up complaining about in blissful ignorance.

maybe 500-380…
500-320 is not close game, in season 1 this was ‘wow that was easy’…
is near 40% difference between teams, is huge.is a 5 vs 3.
less than 20% is a close match for me.

10 player i have no idea of their skill, let suppose unknow mmr or all average.
S2 system.
team A beat team B.
now system put them again in the same team.
probably te result will be the same. ten times.
10-0, 9-1,8-2? maybe 5-5 if luckily they are all really average. (but 5-5 is the best result that this system can achieve).
let’ say probably 10-0 maybe 9-1.
now who is the best player?
dunno.
S1 system.
A beat B
mix A-B player 3 winner 2 loser vs 2 winner 3 loser.
and again mantain team A avarage mmr = team B avarage mmr.
5-5 is the expected result.
who is the best player?
who win more.
What makes me question the validity of the system is this:
How can I destroy the opposite team one match, then I solo Q up again and most of the same people ending up on my team and it is my team that get’s destroyed? Did my team’s MMR suddenly allow a scrub on my team?
Does that indicate that I am an average player? My streaks are never more than 3 matches win or lose, and I usually end up with 1 or 2 extremely close matches a night (500 to 498). They problem I face is that with a 50% win rate it is very slow to make progress. If I am indeed an average player, why is the range of skill so wide at this point in emerald?
In my game experience, they biggest indicator I will win is the result of the first team fight on mid. If you lose mid, your theif had better be capping far.
if the losing team gets less than 400 pts its NOT a close game. (exceptions are FOEFIRE map where lord kill nets you instant 150 pts)

Sorry to say your definition of close game is kittened and your logic is srsly flawed.
Even very close skilled players may end up with a game score like 500-200. On a map like foefire, it is very easy to snow ball a teamfight win to a 200+ point lead.
For me only when one team gets less than 200 means lopsided game.
Finally a legitimate post over the usual “Pvp sucks fix plez” QQ rants thats in the forums.
Absolutely agree OP, even other games have a rating system so that even though you “lose” your individual skill goes up.
It’s what the game lacks, amongst other matchmaking balance issues currently.
Rank: Top 250 since Season 2

500-200 a close skill team?
not really a team have made very bad decision, skill is not 1 vs 1, skill is understand what’s going on.
let out the lord, ok in foefire can end 500-350 and it is close, sometime.
but
500-250 means that you hold 2 point and enemy 1 for all the match. is a bloody bath.
500-300 probably they hold 2 point for 1 minute…

People in solo queue have a lot of problem with regrouping. A single lost team fight usually results in scores like 300-500. Team comps play a role, like if you’re fighting foefire with Ele vs a team without one. Doesn’t mean both the teams didn’t have a chance at winning the game.
One team playing slightly better than the other results in scores like that. One team dominating the others is scores like 500-100.
I had a very close game and we even clawed back ahead but I had connection issues in the beginning so started off poorly.
Speaking for myself, I think the season 2 algo is well done. I destroyed the first two divisions, winning by a very large amount each time.
The 3rd one is thougher: I feel like my opponents are at the same skill level as me but I’m confident I’ll reach the 4th one eventually.
I’m also pretty confident that I won’t get pass the 4th one for the same reason (my skill level), which is perfectly fine.
If I Solo Queue i tend to go on:
W 1 L1
or W2 L1
If I Queue with a friend or two, i tend to go on:
W2 L1
W6 L1
Depending on the time of day… Off Hours seems to be the best time for me.

Overall with the system, if your MMR is an accurate representation of your skill, you will end up in the tier you belong. Sure, there may be some outliers, but the QQs are mostly about people asking for higher skilled players on their team than themselves to carry them and maintain the 50% ratio from last season. That’s dumb. If your question is whether your MMR is accurate tho, that’s a different discussion.

You are disillusioned if you believe there is a matchup system that can give you <150 point difference game consistently.
Go and check out last year’s WTS final TCG vs Abjured vs Orng. I am pretty sure players from all those three teams are close in skill level. But count how many games can qualify as being close by your definition. Very few!
Even at highest level, you can’t achieve close score let alone lower level play at ladder where games are way more volatile. Form of players on the day, coordination, class composition, randomness of gw2pvp all contribute to uneven games.
I’m currently in the last tier of Sapphire. Getting here was an atrocious grind. I had to endure through never ending losing streaks and raged quit a few times. In all fairness, if the matchmaking was designed to let the good players advance quickly than the bads, I’m okay with that. In the end, I wouldn’t want some baddie that had a streak of lucky queues to be in the same division as I am.
My issue is that I often get placed in a team that’s full of players who are absolutely clueless about the game. If I lose a match, I want it to be fair and square. If I actually get paired with players of my caliber and still lose, I can fully accept that loss no matter how lop sided the match is. But I’m often losing simply because I’m paired with others that can’t play map politics, always goes after beasts, don’t res/stomp, or goes far when there’s no need to.
While I recognize that there will never be a perfect matchmaking system, something’s got to change in the current algorithm so that we actually get placed in a team of similar caliber. It is so frustrating to lose because of bad placement.
So I was having losing streak issues…
Switched to DH, now I have winning streaks. Lol
All the matchmaking drama is overshadowing class balance.
I was wrong about this MMR, I have to admit, I was so frustrated that I can’t pass easy ruby.. for 4-5 days I was competing with legendary palyers, so they could climb faster, I was a pip farm for them. Now they are gone, and some players advanced to ruby I play with ruby players almost every time ) when ppls don’t use duo-trio queue with emerald or sapphire..pls just queue with your same kind of division, pls!
Now I win 75% of the matches, and I’m sure I will end up in my division, diamond!
For the players who are lower than me, you have to wait more for division settle … so good luck!
there are some kittened up matches, but hey, nothing is perfect!
You guys still don’t understand. ANET doesn’t measure success by player feedback, or whether the classes are balanced, or whether the matchmaking is good, or whether the seasons are set up correctly.
They measure success by how much time people are spending playing the game mode. So while you all complain about it, you are still playing. That means success in ANET’s world.

When will people GET it. MMR has NOTHING to do with skill. It is your winrate during a certain interval with 2 variables that make it look stable but actually just kitten it up even more, because the algorithm used in gw2 is for PLAYER VS PLAYER or TEAM VS TEAM.
It is NOT SUITABLE for soloqueue, since it takes only WIN or LOSS into account. Nothing more. Not how much dmg you’ve done, not how much dmg you received… not how often you rallybotted, or even if you afk’ed the match.
Most matches I’ve had, there has been a clear disparity in skill/experience between the teams, especially in lower ranks.
I have had a few very close games, some being within 10 points, but those are extremely rare.
But yea, I think main disparity is due to a lot of people having to grind up through the ranks till they reach their “native” rank, so early in the season you will get these types of matches more often.
Only thing that bums me out about this season (though not much) is that we can’t get triple pips n such anymore, and we can gain pips despite a loss.
PPL when will realize that this is not an 1vs1, that I’m very good 1 vs1, or see my points…you have to realize that this is a 5vs5 team fight, in witch you suck.. that’s why you remain in sapphire! When we ruby players go up in diamond u will have a chance to get ruby!

I am hard pressed to think of a competitive game where your rating goes up as you lose.
Any game that uses any sort of ELO system you will always lose points, sometimes very few, for a loss and always gain, again sometimes very few, for a win.
the fundamental concept that the MMR is able to get good players out quickly is wrong
i have times when i fought a full team of higher div with a full team of lower div and won
does that means those ppl are actually better?
heck, the same group of people that won get stuck in the cycle of losing streak the moment they let the system decide their solo Q
