Ele is not a 1v1 class. We are not supposed to be holding side nodes. Click bait I know but PLEASE get this into your heads. I’ve got multiple people expecting me to do that, and nobody rotating over to swap with me when I’m forced into a 1v1 situation.

The last straw today was when I told a burn guard to hold home and he refused, saying I should be the one holding home and he should be in the one in team fights. Obviously, I told him otherwise; that it should be the other way around since his burns will just get cleansed easily by the enemy ele but he had the cheek to ask me if I really was in platinum. Cherry on top was when he asked for a 1v1 and I accepted and directed him to a server and he didn’t show up. kitten me.

We’re supposed to be in team fights, not you. Please, if you see any ele 1v1-ing, swap with him. Or better yet, don’t even leave him in a 1v1 scenario in the first place. Good god, Brazy, I’m looking at you.

Do what I do and just leave the point empty. Don’t even cap it.

It will drive your allies through the roof, but eventually they will learn your playstyle.

Yeah, when people tell me to do that, it drives me nuts… Just ignore the noobs and smile to yourself that they’ll end up in gold eventually

I think I was in that game against you lol, your team really struggled without the Ele in team fights it was probably the dumbest idea to have a bunch of squishies and a burn guard fighting mid. I was on necro and just passed all the burns back to your team rip.

Plat is full of people like this, frustrating as hell.

Also yeah that burn guard is a bad player who jumps in, tries to unload all his burns including purging flames and then dies instantly if he doesn’t kill anyone lmao

Exactly, it was clear that the druid will keep pushing our home or camp far since he was afraid of our thief decapping so all we had to do was have the burn guard guard against the druid or even push far if the thief +1s him while we try to stall the team fight at mid (considering we had a better lineup) since his burns were useless anyway.

But he kept running mid to let the druid decap while expecting me to rotate and defend like what? First off, I’m not supposed to take 1v1s. Secondly, my mobility is kitten. Really makes me wonder how I get matched with people like these AND how they are even in plat in the first place.

Reason why Ele should be in a 1v1? Because it can’t kill anything.

All it does it take valuable support away from a team fight. D/F Tempest is a support spec, not a bunker. It’s not designed to take as much pressure for your team as possible. It’s meant to relieve pressure for your teammates. Both support specs and bunkers aren’t made to kill things alone (except Druid ‘cause pets), but a bunker can sit on a point during a fight and take the damage. Season 1 Mesmer wasn’t called a support Mesmer. It was called a bunker Mesmer because it didn’t provide much support, but it could hold a point against 3 or even 4 players. Bunkers can be in team fights, but they can valuably duel too while keeping a point. Support Tempest cannot sit on a point against anything that knows how to pressure and interrupt. It will have to leave and give up the point eventually because it’s too squishy when pressured.

Oh man, I feel for you. I stopped playing support role because of its reliance on competent teammates. I honestly don’t know how someone gets into platinum without understanding roles. I will always rotate to where I see an ele in a 1v1. That’s my job, not his. Likewise, I’m not going to make a thief sit on a point to finish capping it, or worse guarding it. He has better things to do.

As support ele how I’m supposed to be useful when our team can’t kill necro 3v1 in mid and there’s one more necro on the other team. And of course there’s 3 other players.

We had the game at start, but after the opponent figured out that “ele is a nice target” I got focused so hard that even using Water Overload meant I’d die before it could even finish.

I mean what are we even supposed to do when everyone is trying to kill you while your team is melting away because random conditions and damage? Trying to cleanse while 2 condi necros spamming stuff while immortal sometimes makes me feel that it’s not even worth trying. It doesn’t really matter if your whole team gets wiped in 5 or 10 seconds, we lose anyway. Or are we supposed just split everywhere, but what’s my role as group support if we just split in two groups? Run with other and hope for the best?

I’ll tell you..sometimes the drafts just are bad enough that the only way to win is for hope for other team go afk or be completely pawless blind kittens with 38kbps modem.

True, I see a lot of them doing this as well….I don’t know where that comes from.

well there is a situation where it is necessary…
If the enemy decides to just ignore mid and 5 vs 4 your team on close and far instead
while your ele bunkers mid…
Then Ele would have to leave mid to prevent your team from dying constantly to 5 vs 4

But yes usually ele shouldnt push a close point 1 vs 1
That is the job of Thief
(or DH with teleports/Warrior with Greatsword if you have no Thief)

When you are under focus, you try to kite and use the terrain to your advantage. Also, time your defensive abilities well. For example, obsidian skin before dropping water overload. Or lightning flash to a hard to follow terrain before using wash the pain away. Because when you are under pressure it means your teammates aren’t, so you can drop all your heals for yourself.

Thank you for your advice, I’ve been trying to follow them and it’s been helpful. I got finally some consistency at my playing under pressure, though sometimes I face a premades and if they’re good, they drive me to defensive and then blow up the guy next to me =)

No problem. That happens from time to time. All isn’t lost if that happens though, an ele is capable of taking a teamfight while outnumbered (e.g. 3v4) most of the time (it depends on lineup really, if you have someone capable of sustaining and stalling the team fight with you, like a druid or a scrapper, you should be able to. Of course that’s provided your enemy doesnt consist of crazy high burst damage like rev+thief+necro).

You just duck in and out of the point kiting while timing your cds well and you should be able to stall till your dead team mate comes back.
