You could leave a portal at the orb. Go to your home point. Open portal, channel Orb and port back. Yay instacap.

Channeling only seems to be 2-3 seconds.

You can’t take orb and use portal, Lose the orb.

The only advantage is to leave the portal in the orb altar, take the orb, walking to your base and leaving it and use portal to return for the orb altar to take it again

Yeah also works the other way, however I thought you loose the buff when using a teleport skill (like shadowstep, mesmer portal etc.). That is how it is written in this thread:

If the mesmer portal thing is true I guess they are simply not able to program that you drop the buff when running through a portal.

If the mesmer portal thing is true I guess they are simply not able to program that you drop the buff when running through a portal.

They do this with the treb repair on Khylo.

IDK this could be preliminary.

Well it pretty much confirms portal will get some sort of rework in the patch (i.e.big nerf).

Don’t worry guys you have to wait for another month for the portal to be fixed.
In the meantime enjoy getting wrecked by your ele and mesmer overlords.

Seems like there is still some use for portal, place it at home/spawn location and then once you cap go back to the orb span pick it up, ride lightning home. I think the portal is fine since you drop it, but ride lightning….yeah I’m gonna go with what OneManArmy said.
